Zinc alpha 2 glycoprotein(ZAG)is a 41 KDa secretory soluble glycoprotein found in different body fluids like the serum,saliva,sweat,breast milk,and *** is also found in tissues like the testis,epididymis,kidney,spleen,liver,lungs,heart,and *** is an adipokine with multiple roles,including lipid mobilization,modulating glucose metabolisms,improving insulin sensitivity,inhibiting tumor proliferation through RNAse activity,and suppressing *** levels of zinc and ZAG are linked to metabolic syndrome and are also reported as potential biomarkers for diabetic *** zinc has been found to regulate the binding of ZAG to fatty *** on very few reports on the vitreous ZAG and based on its known functions,we speculate that ZAG has a potential role in diabetic *** this article,we discuss the structural component of the protein,its secretion from various tissues,and its distribution in multiple tissues in normal and disease conditions,especially in diabetes and its complications.

AIM:To access the association of forty-eight single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)identified from Caucasian population with steroid-induced ocular hypertension(OHT)in India ***:Fifty-four triamcinolone-acetonide(TA)and for ty-seven dexamethasone(Dex)administered subjects were enrolled in the study after a written *** pressure(IOP)values were recorded for a period of 6-month post steroid injections and patients were grouped as steroid-responders(SR:IOP≥21 mm Hg)and non-responders(NR:IOP≤20 mm Hg).Genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral venous ***-eight SNPs identified in TA treated Caucasian patients by genome wide association study(GWAS)were genotyped using iPLEXTM MassA RRAY among TA as well as Dex administered Indian *** data of 48 general subjects from a previous study were considered as reference controls for statistical *** frequencies were calculated and P-value,Chi-square and odds ratio at 95%confidenceinterval of group A(steroid treated vs controls),group B(SR vs NR),group C(phenotype correlation:influence of time,severity and gender on IOP rise),were calculated.P30 mm Hg)and immediate(<1 wk)among TA-SR patients while it was noticed to be mild(<30 mm Hg)and between 1-2 mo among Dex-SR *** regression for risk factor correlation with OHT remained non-significant,hence these factors were not considered as confounding parameters for further ***133,rs34016742,rs274554,rs10936746,rs274547,rs804854,rs7751500,rs359498,and rs7547448 SNPs significantly varied even after Bonferroni corrections(P<0.0025;group A).rs1879370(TA)and rs6559662(Dex)were significantly(P<0.05)associated with OHT(group B).rs133(severe IOP rise),rs11047639 and rs1879370(male gender),and rs11171569(immediate IOP rise)significantly(P<0.05)infl

Purpose To elucidate the effect of discontinuation of corticosteroids in patie nts with atypical severe central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) on retinal reatt achment, resolution of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) leaks, and improvement i n visual acuity (VA). Design Prospective, noncomparative, observational case ser ies. Participants Twenty-four eyes of 17 patients who were being treated with c orticosteroids for atypical severe CSC. Of these 17 patients, 16 were treated in appropriately with corticosteroids for their ocular condition; presumably, these patients’conditions were misdiagnosed, and they were thought to have choroidit is, Harada’s syndrome, or similar entities, and not central serous chorioretino pathy. Intervention Observation or laser photocoagulation. Main outcome measures Reattachment of the retina, obliteration of RPE leaks on fundus fluorescein ang iography, and improvement in Snellen VA. Results Discontinuation of corticostero ids resulted in reattachment of the retina in 21 eyes (87.5%), with median time to reattachment of 49 days (range, 32-400); only 3 eyes required laser photoco agulation. Fundus fluorescein angiography showed obliteration of RPE leaks at a median period of 75 days (range, 32-400) in the observed eyes; the median VA im proved from 20/80 to 20/30. The mean follow-up was 16.5 months. ConclusionsDisc ontinuation of corticosteroids in atypical CSC helped in obliteration of RPE lea ks and retinal reattachment in 87.5%of the eyes without laser treatment, and im provement in VA was observed.
