The paper presents an improved plane layout for stabilizing piles based on a proposed piecewise function expression for the irregular driving force. Based on the specific morphological characteristics of a highway landslide, the piecewise function is used to calculate the irregular driving force by dividing the landslide into several ***, the reasonable layout range and pile spacing can be obtained based on the piecewise function expression of the irregular driving force and on relevant research results of the plane layout for stabilizing piles. Therefore, an improved plane layout of stabilizing piles is presented in consideration of a piecewise function expression of the irregular driving force. A highway landslide located in eastern Guizhou Province, China, is analyzed as a case study using the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the theory presented in this paper provides improved economic benefits and can reduce the requirednumber of stabilizing piles by 28.6% compared with the conventional plane layout scheme.

Remote sensing satellites are playing very important roles in diverse earth observation ***,long revisit period,high cost and dense cloud cover have been the main limitations of satellite remote sensing for a long *** paper introduces the novel volunteered passenger aircraft remote sensing(VPARS)concept,which can partly overcome these *** obtaining aerial imaging data from passengers using a portable smartphone on a passenger aircraft,it has various advantages including low cost,high revisit,dense coverage,and partial anti-cloud,which can well complement conventional remote sensing *** paper examines the concept of VPARS and give general data processing framework of *** cases were given to validate this processing *** preliminary applications on land cover classification and economic activity monitoring validate the applicability of the VPARS ***,we examine the issues about data maintenance,potential applications,limitations and *** conclude the VPARS can benefit both scientific and industrial communities who rely on remote sensing data.

Lateral transportation of soil heavy metals in rainfall events could significantly increase the scope of pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a model with high accuracy to simulate the migration quantity of heavy metals. A model for heavy metal migration simulation was developed based on the SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model. This model took into consideration the influence of soil p H value, soil particle size, runoff volume, sediment amount,concentration of water-soluble heavy metals dissolved in runoff and insoluble absorbed to the soil particles. This model was reasonable in Huanjiang watershed, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south China, covering an area of 273 km^2. The optimal drainage area threshold was determined by analyzing the effects of watershed subdivision on the simulation results to ensure the simulation accuracy. The main conclusions of this paper were:(1) watershed subdivision could affect simulation migration quantity of heavy metals;(2) the quantity of heavy metals transported by sediment accounted for 97%–99% of the total migration quantity in the study watershed. Therefore, sediment played the most important role in heavy metal migration;(3) the optimal drainage area threshold percentage to ensure high simulation accuracy was determined to be 2.01% of the total watershed;(4) with the optimal threshold percentage, this model could simulate the migration quantity of As, Pb and Cd accurately at the total watershed and subwatershed level. The results of this paper were useful for identifying the key regions with heavy metal migration.

GPS data and precise leveling data of seismic network profiles across the fault in Baotou in 2006, 2009 and 2011 were processed and analyzed to test the feasibility of using GPS technology for fault-crossing vertical deformation monitoring. The results showed that high precision cross-fauh vertical deformation measurements can be obtained using appropriate GPS data processing strategies.

Municipal solid waste （MSW） and its disposal are gaining significant importance in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. However, conventional research is primarily focused on fresh MSW or MSW that is compacted under its own weight in the landfill. In this work, a series of tests to study the properties of a densified MSW after ground treatment were presented. The tests involved oedometer test, simple shear test, triaxial shear test, and permeability test, which were conducted to investigate the compressibility, shear strength, creep behavior and permeability of the MSW. The results show that the compressibility modulus of the MSW increases as the dry density increases. However, the influence of density on modulus decreases once the density reaches a certain value. Like most soils, the stress-strain curve of the densified MSW can be approximated by a hyperbola in the triaxial shear test. Fibrous components provide additional cohesion for MSW, but have a relatively smaller effect on friction angle. Permeability is also found to be closely related to the dry density of the MSW, i.e., MSW with a higher dry density has a smaller permeability. The permeability coefficient may be less than 10 7 cm/s if the density is high enough.

This paper presents findings from an investigation of the large-scale construction solid waste （CSW） landslide that occurred at a landfill at shenzhen, Guangdong, China, on December 20, 2015, and which killed 77 people and destroyed 33 houses. The landslide involved 2.73 - 106 m3 of CSW and affected an area about 1100 m in length and 630 m in maximum width, making it the largest landfill landslide in the world. The investigation of this disaster used a combination of unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance and multistage remote-sensing images to reveal the increasing volume of waste in the landfill and the shifting shape of the landfill slope for nearly two years before the landslide took place, beginning with the creation of the CSW landfill in March, 2014, that resulted in the uncertain conditions of the landfill＇s boundaries and the unstable state of the hydrologic performance. As a result, applying conventional stability analysis methods used for natural landslides to this case would be difficult. In order to analyze this disaster, we took a multistage modeling technique to analyze the varied characteristics of the land- fill slope＇s structure at various stages of CSW dumping and used the non-steady flow theory to explain the groundwater seepage problem. The investigation showed that the landfill could be divided into two units based on the moisture in the land：（1） a front uint, consisted of the landfill slope, which had low water content; and （2） a rear unit, consisted of fresh waste, which had a high water content. This struc- ture caused two effects-surface-water infiltration and consolidation seepage that triggered the landslide in the landfill. Surface-water infiltration induced a gradual increase in pore water pressure head, or piezometric head, in the front slope because the infiltrating position rose as the volume of waste placement increased. consolidation seepage led to higher excess pore water pressures as the loading of waste increased. Accurate and timely information on urban vegetation(UV)can be used as an important indicator to estimate the health of *** to the low cost of RGB cameras,true color imagery(TCI)has been widely used for high spatial resolution UV ***,the current index-based and classifier-based UV mapping approaches face problems of the poor ability to accurately distinguish UV and the high reliance on massive annotated samples,*** address this issue,an index-guided semantic segmentation(IGSS)framework is proposed in this ***,a novel cross-scale vegetation index(CSVI)is calculated by the combination of TCI and Sentinel-2 images,and the index value can be used to provide an initial UV ***,reliable UV and non-UV samples are automatically generated for training the semantic segmentation model,and then the refined UV map can be *** experimental results show that the proposed CSVI outperformed the existingfive RGB vegetation indices in highlighting UV cover and suppressing complex backgrounds,and the proposed IGSS workflow achieved satisfactory results with an OA of 87.72%∼88.16%and an F1 score of 87.73%∼88.37%,which is comparable with the fully-supervised method.

Preliminary design method for absorber pipe length of tunnel lining ground heat exchangers based on energy efficiency of heat pump

Many ongoing tunnel projects provide a favorable opportunity for the investigation and application of tunnel lining ground heat exchangers(GHEs).Tunnel lining GHEs can be connected to a heat pump to extract geothermal energy for heating and cooling *** studies have focused on the thermal performance of tunnel lining GHEs;however,the studies on the interaction between heat pumps and tunnel lining GHEs are relatively *** this study,a coupled heat transfer model of heat pumps and tunnel lining GHEs was proposed and then calibrated based on in situ test *** model was used to evaluate the energy efficiency of a heat pump with tunnel lining GHEs under different *** results show that the energy efficiency ratio(EER)increases exponentially with the absorber pipe length and thermal conductivity of the surrounding *** EER is governed by the convection heat transfer coefficient,which varies exponentially;meanwhile,the EER decreases approximately linearly with the annual average air temperature in the *** types of heat pumps affect the EER significantly,and the EER of a Type-3 heat pump is higher than that of a Type-1 heat pump by 27.1%.Based on the aforementioned results,an empirical formula for the EER and absorber pipe length was ***,a preliminary design method for the absorber pipe length based on this empirical formula was *** method was employed to determine the appropriate absorber pipe length for the tunnel lining GHEs in the Shapu tunnel in shenzhen,***,groups of absorber pipe layouts with a pipe spacing of 0.5 m,area of 135 m2,and length of 293.5 m were preliminarily determined.
