Low-temperature chlorination roasting technology for the simultaneous recovery of valuable metals from spent LiCoO_(2)cathode material

With the continuous increase in the disposal volume of spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),properly recycling spent LIBs has become essential for the advancement of the circular *** study presents a systematic analysis of the chlorination roasting kinetics and proposes a new two-step chlorination roasting process that integrates thermodynamics for the recycling of LIB cathode *** activation energy for the chloride reaction was 88.41 kJ/mol according to thermogravimetric analysis–derivative thermogravimetry data obtained by using model-free,model-fitting,and Z(α)function(αis conversion rate).Results indicated that the reaction was dominated by the first-order(F1)model when the conversion rate was less than or equal to 0.5 and shifted to the second-order(F2)model when the conversion rate exceeded *** conditions were determined by thoroughly investigating the effects of roasting temperature,roasting time,and the mass ratio of NH_(4)Cl to LiCoO_(2).Under the optimal conditions,namely 400℃,20 min,and NH_(4)Cl/LiCoO_(2)mass ratio of 3:1,the leaching efficiency of Li and Co reached 99.43% and 99.05%,*** of the roasted products revealed that valuable metals in LiCoO_(2)transformed into CoCl_(2) and ***,the reaction mechanism was elucidated,providing insights for the establishment of a novel low-temperature chlorination roasting technology based on a crystal structure *** technology can guide the development of LIB recycling processes with low energy consumption,low secondary pollution,high recovery efficiency,and high added value.

The stacking structure of Nb2CSe2, a newly synthesized layered metal carbo-selenide, was elucidated by scanning transmission electron microscopy. Nb2CSe2 features Se-Nb-C-Nb-Se quintuple atomic layers. These layers are stacked in Bernal mode. In this mode, Nb2CSe2 crystallizes in a trigonal symmetry (space group P 3 m 1, No. 164), with lattice parameters of a = 3.33 & Aring;and c = 18.20 & Aring;. Electronic structure calculations indicate that the metal carbo-selenide has Fermi energy crossing the bands where it touches to give a zero gap, indicating that it is an electronic conductor. As evidenced experimentally, the electrical conductivity is as high as 6.6x105 Sm-1, outperforming the counterparts in the MXene family. Owing to the layered structure, the bonding in Nb2CSe2 with an ionic formula of (Nb 1.48+ ) 2 (C 1.74- )(Se 0.61- ) 2 is highly anisotropic, with metallic-covalent-ionic bonding in intralayers and weak bonding between interlayers. The layered nature is further evidenced by elastic properties, interlayer energy, and friction coefficient determination. These characteristics indicate that Nb2CSe2 is an analog of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), which is a typical binary van der Waals (vdW) solid. Moreover, vibrational properties are reported, which may offer an optical identification standard for new ternary vdW solids in spectroscopic studies, including Raman scattering and infrared absorption.

Taurine: A Comprehensive Review of Its Origin， Pharmacological Properties， Potential Health Benefits， Therapeutic Applications， and Safety Profile

Taurine， a multifunctional sulfur-containing amino acid and conditionally essential nutrient for humans， plays a key role in various biological processes and has attracted significant attention for its therapeutic potential. Originally isolated from ox bile， taurine has broad applications， but a comprehensive understanding of its pharmacological properties， health benefits， and safety profile remains incomplete. In this review， we critically evaluate the existing evidence on taurine’s effects based on an extensive literature search of multiple databases， including PubMed， Web of Science， Scopus， ScienceDirect， Google scholar， CNKI， and Baidu scholar， up to May 2024. Taurine demonstrates a range of beneficial effects， including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities， modulation of lipid metabolism， neuroprotection， and cardiovascular protection. It has shown substantial impacts on anti-tumor activity， immune system modulation， blood pressure and lipid regulation， glycemic control， hepatobiliary protection， and potential anti-aging effects. However， the precise regulatory pathways underlying these benefits are not yet fully understood. Epidemiological studies indicate a correlation between high taurine dosage and a reduced risk of diseases. However， direct evidence from interventional studies remains insufficient， and existing clinical trials require further in-depth investigation. Concerns about improper use and potential health risks also highlight the need for thorough safety assessments. To address these gaps， we recommend conducting well-designed， long-term randomized controlled trials to establish effective doses for disease prevention and assess taurine’s potential as a primary or adjunct therapy. This review aims to guide future research and support public health efforts， ultimately improving health outcomes.

Fibroblast Adhesion and Proliferation on a New β Type Ti-39Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr Alloy for Biomedical Application

Cell attachment and spreading on Ti-based alloy surfaces is a major parameter in implant technology. Ti-39Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr alloy is a new β type Ti alloy developed for biomedical application. This alloy has low modulus and high strength, which indicates that it can be used for medical purposes such as surgical implants. To evaluate the biocompatibility and effects of the surface morphology of Ti-39Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr on the cellular behaviour, the adhesion and proliferation of rat gingival fibroblasts were studied with substrates having different surface roughness and the results were also compared with commercial pure titanium and Ti-6Al-4V. The results indicate that fibroblast shows similar adhesion and proliferation on the smooth surfaces of commercial pure titanium （Cp Ti）, Ti-39Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr, and Ti-6Al-4V, suggesting that Ti-39Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr has similar biocompatibility to Cp Ti and Ti-6Al-4V. The fibroblast adhesion and spreading was lower on rough surfaces of Cp Ti, Ti-39Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr and Ti-6Al-4V than on smooth ones. Surface roughness appeared to be a dominant factor that determines the fibroblast adhesion and proliferation.

AIM:To analyze whether alterations of voxel mirror homology connectivity(VMHC)values,as determined by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(rsfMRI),occur in cerebral regions of patients with hypertensive retinopathy(HR)and to determine the relationship between VMHC values and clinical characteristics in patients with ***:Twenty-one patients with HR and 21 agematched healthy controls(HCs)were assessed by rsfMRI *** functional connectivity between the hemispheres of the cerebrum was assessed by measuring VMHC,with the ability of VMHC to distinguish between the HR and HC groups assessed using receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve *** in the demographic and clinical characteristics of the HR and HC groups were analyzed by independent sample *** relationship between average VMHC in several brain areas of HR patients and clinical features was determined using Pearson correlation ***:Mean VMHC values of the bilateral cuneus gyrus(BA19),bilateral middle orbitofrontal gyrus(BA47),bilateral middle temporal gyrus(BA39)and bilateral superior medial frontal gyrus(BA9)were lower in the HR than in the HC ***:VMHC values can predict the development of early HR,prevent the transformation of hypertensive microangiopathy,and provide useful information explaining the changes in neural mechanism associated with HR.

Quantitative study of MR T_1 and T_2 relaxation times and ~1HMRS in gray matter of normal adult brain

Objective To evaluate magnetic resonance (MR) Imaging and 1 H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1 HMRS) in the study of normal biochemical process of the brain, as well as differentiation of normal senile brain from cerebral diseases related to senility. Methods One hundred and eighty healthy adult volunteers were selected for MR examination and 60 other healthy subjects for 1 HMRS examination. Ages of subjects ranged from 18 to 80 years. They were divided into six age groups. A 0.35 T superconductive MR system was used to perform MR examination. Point resolved spectroscopy sequence was required for 1 HMRS. The metabolites in the spectra included: N-acetylaspartate (NAA), choline compounds (CHO), creatine compounds (CR), myo-inositol (MI), glutamate and glutamine (Glu-n). Results In 180 cases of MR, the shortest T2 relaxation time occurred in the deep gray matter within the same age group while the length of T1 relaxation time was ordered from low to high compared to age groups. T2 relaxation time decreased as age increased. The peaks, ordered from high to low, were as follows in 60 cases of 1 HMRS: NAA, CR, CHO, MI, Glu-n. The ratios of NAA/CR and Glu-n/CR were higher in the senile age group, while that of MI/CR was lower. The ratio of CHO/CR was increased as age decreased. The ratio of NAA/CR and MI/CR gradually decreased in relation to movement from the anterior to the posterior part of the brain; the ratio of CHO/CR was highest in the occipital cortex. Correlation of T1 relaxation time and partial metabolite ratios to age were present in gray *** Quantitative studies of MR T1 and T2 relaxation times and 1 HMRS are essential to evaluation of normal myelinization processes, neuronal integrity and age-related biochemical changes in the brain.

Synthesis and photocatalytic properties of lanthanum doped anatase TiO_2 coated Fe_3O_4 composites

A composite photocatalyst （La/TiO2/Fe3O4） with a lanthanum doped TiO2 （La/TiO2） shell and a magnetite core was prepared by coating photoactive La/TiO2 onto a magnetic Fe3O4 core. The morphological, structural, and optical properties of as-prepared samples were charac-terized by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, X-ray diffraction （XRD） and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The effect of lanthanum content on the photocatalytic properties was studied, and the result revealed that 0.15 mol% La/TiO2/Fe3O4 exhibited the highest photoactiv-ity. The photocatalytic properties of the prepared photocatalyst under UV and visible light were investigated in aqueous solution using methyl orange （MO） as a target pollutant. The results showed that the prepared photocatalyst was activated by visible light and used as an ef-fective catalyst in photooxidation reactions. In addition, the possibility of cyclic usage of the prepared photocatalyst was also confirmed. Moreover, La/TiO2 was tightly bound to Fe3O4 and could be easily recovered from the medium by a simple magnetic process.
