Object: To isolate and identify the microorganisms from the burn patients admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit in Tertiary Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh. A total number of fifty wound surface swab samples of first and second-degree burn patients were collected and the microbial analysis as well as the study of antibacterial susceptibility was conducted. The study showed the bacterial isolates were found. 45 (90%) of wound swab were positive among 50 and only 5 samples (10%) were negative in bacterial growth, which presented invasive burn wound infection from both sex age groups marked 12 - 60 years. The total viable count TVC-11651 CFU/plate was found and the highest amount in the second-degree burn patients. The results showed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa was common in all positive samples 6636 CFU/plate (57%) followed by Staphylococcus aureus 4070 CFU/plate (35%), Klebsiella spp. 450 CFU/plate (5%),

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common liver disease worldwide. There is no specific biomarker for the diagnosis of NAFLD. Trigly-ceride and glucose index (TyG) may predict the subsequent occurrence of NAFLD in later life. This cross sectional study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of triglyceride and glucose index (TyG) as a possible biomarker of NAFLD. The study was conducted at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Bangabandhu sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh from March 2019 to February 2020. A total of 124 subjects were taken as study population following selection criteria. Among them 62 were diagnosed patients of NAFLD and 62 were healthy subjects as control group. Fasting plasma glucose was measured by glucose oxidase method and serum triglyceride was measured by enzymatic-colorimetric method, while TyG index was calculated accordingly. The mean age was 39.5 ± 11.27 years in NAFLD patients and 37.10 ± 12.28 years in control subjects with male female ratio 1:1.7 and 1:1.8 respectively. Major portion of NAFLD patients (62.9%) were overweight (BMI ≥ 25). The mean fasting plasma glucose level was 5.73 ± 1.47 mmol/L in NAFLD patients and 5.27 ± 0.69 mmol/L in control group (p < 0.027). The mean serum triglyceride level was 237.19 ± 96.47 mg/dl in NAFLD patients and 117.32 ± 53.07 mg/dl in control group (p < 0.001). The triglyceride and glucose index (TyG) was 9.36 ± 0.47 in NAFLD group and 8.53 ± 0.42 in control group. TyG index was significantly higher in NAFLD patients in comparison to control group (p < 0.001). In ROC analysis, cut off value of TyG index was 8.85 with sensitivity 93.5% and specificity 79%. As a fast and effective method, TyG index can be used as a diagnostic tool to predict NAFLD.

Currently,there are no harmonized guidelines which govern skin banking in the Asia Pacific ***,skin banks are either unregulated or rely on their nation’s legislation or international accreditation to uphold their quality standards.A new set of skin banking guidelines was devel-oped through a comprehensive review and collation of best international practices for the Asia Pacific burn Association(APBA)members,from donor screening and testing,to skin recovery,processing,storage and distribution,and quality *** regulatory requirements reviewed include the European directives,Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration and Sin-gapore’s tissue banking *** technical and quality management recommendations are referenced from the American Association of Tissue Banks(AATB),the United States Food and Drug Administration standards and guidance documents,various relevant European guides,Japanese Society of Tissue Transplantation guidelines and the Asia Pacific Association of Surgical Tissue *** mainly from the AATB standards,the new Asia Pacific burn Association Guidelines for Skin Banking in Therapeutic Applications offer a comprehensive manual,address-ing:governance and contracts;staff responsibilities;quality management;facilities,equipment and supplies management;donor consent and testing;and recommendations of good practices pertaining to skin recovery,processing,storage and *** complementing current generic regulations,they provide technical specifications of major aspects unaddressed in most *** inaugural set of new regional skin banking guidelines would be a start for regional members of the APBA to adopt,and will hopefully culminate in a set of standards so that,in the long run,skin allografts from this region can be of similar quality,which can simplify import process and facilitate the exchange of allografts between members.

Background:Scar comorbidities seriously affect the physical and mental health of patients,but few studies have reported the exact epidemiological characteristics of scar comorbidities in *** study aimed to investigate the prevalence of scar comorbidities in ***:The data of 177,586 scar cases between 2013 and 2018 were obtained from the Hospital Quality Monitoring System based on the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases coding *** total distribution of scar comorbidities and their relationship with age,aetiology and body regions were ***:Six comorbidities(contracture,malformation,ocular complications,adhesion,infection and others)were the main *** general,male patients outnumbered females and urban areas outnumbered rural *** proportion of contractures was the highest at 59,028(33.24%).Students,workers and farmers made up the majority of the *** Chinese accounted for the majority of the *** highest proportion of scar contracture occurred at 1–1.9 years of age(58.97%),after which a significant downward trend was ***,starting from 50 years of age,ocular complications increased gradually and significantly,eventually reaching a peak of 34.49%in those aged>80 *** contracture was the most common comorbidity according to aetiology,and the highest proportion was observed in patients who were scalded(29.33%).Contractures were also the most frequent comorbidity in hands(10.30%),lower limbs(6.97%),feet(6.80%)and upper limbs(6.02%).The mean and median hospitalization durations were 12.85 and 8 days,***:Contractures were the most common comorbidities,and different comorbidities tended to occur at different ages and with different causative factors.

AIM： To explore the more suitable concentration of glutamate or N-methyl-D-aspartic acid（NMDA） for intravitreal injection to establish a rat model of retinal neurodegeneration. METHODS： We injected different doses of glutamate（20 or 50 nmol） or NMDA（40 nmol） into the vitreous chambers of rats, then measured the concentration of glutamate and retinal thickness, quantified apoptotic cells and determined the degree of tau hyperphosphorylation at different time points. T-test was used for comparison of two groups. One-way ANOVA and Turkey＇s multiple comparisons test were used for comparisons of different groups, and P values below 0.05 were considered statistically ***： The glutamate level in the rats treated with 50 nmol of glutamate was twice that of the control group and persisted two weeks. Seven days after intravitreal injection of 50 nmol of glutamate, three parameters [inner retinal thickness（IRT）, retinal thickness（RT） and ganglion cell layer（GCL） cell number] were reduced significantly. Furthermore, numerous TUNEL-positive cells were observed in the GCL one day after intravitreal injection of 50 nmol of glutamate, the expression of the apoptosisrelated factor cleaved casepase-3 was markedly increased compared with the expression levels in the other treatment groups, and the expression levels of tau s396 and tau s404 were significantly increased compared with those in the control ***： This study demonstrates that the intravitreal injection of 50 nmol of glutamate can establish the more effective retinal neurodegeneration animal model relative to other treatment groups.

Background Transforming growth factor-β1 （TGF-β1） is known to have a role in keloid formation through the activation of fibroblasts and the acceleration of collagen deposition. The objective of this current study was to isolate TGF-β1 phage model peptides from a phage display 7-mer peptide library to evaluate their therapeutic effect on inhibiting the activity of keloid *** A phage display 7-mer peptide library was screened using monoclonal anti-human TGF-β1 as the target to obtain specific phages containing ectogenous model peptides similar to TGF-β1. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） was performed to select monoclonal phages with good binding activity, which underwent DNA sequencing. MTT assay and apoptosis assessment were used to evaluate the biological effects of the phage model peptides on keloid fibroblasts. Immunofluorescence assay was employed to show the binding affinity of the model peptides on phages causing keloid fibroblasts. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis was carried out to detect the expressions of nuclear factor κB （NF-κB） mRNA, connective tissue growth factor （CTGF） mRNA and TGF-β receptor Ⅱ （TβRII） mRNA in keloid *** Specific phages with good results of ELISA were beneficiated. Four phage model peptides were obtained. The data of MTT showed that TGF-β1 and one phage model peptide （No. 4） could promote keloid fibroblasts proliferation,however, three phage model peptides （No. 1-3） could inhibit keloid fibroblasts proliferation. The results of apoptosis assessment showed that the three phage model peptides could slightly induce the apoptosis in keloid fibroblasts. The data of immunofluorescence assay revealed that the model peptides on phages rather than phages could bind to keloid fibroblasts. The findings of quantitative real-time PCR analysis suggested that the expressions of NF-κB mRNA and CTGF mRNA in the three phage model peptide groups decreased, while the expression of TβRII mRNA slightly increased.

Background:Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by the involvement of multiple organs and autoantibody *** study aimed to determine the association of human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-DQ and-DR alleles with SLE at a tertiary hospital in ***:This case-control study was conducted in the Department of Rheumatology,Bangabandhu sheikh Mujib Medical University(BSMMU),Dhaka,*** patients who fulfilled the 1997 revised American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for SLE were considered cases(n=41).The controls(n=32)were selected from the hospital staff of BSMMU,including doctors and nurses who did not suffer from any known rheumatic diseases,and there was no such disease in their first-degree *** chain reaction using a sequence-specific primer(PCRSSP)in a low-resolution typing method was carried out on blood samples collected for HLA-DQ and-DR allele ***:The cases and controls had comparable mean ages(31 vs.32 years),and most cases were female(95.1%vs.34.4%).The most frequent clinical manifestations were mucocutaneous(85.4%),followed by musculoskeletal(70.7%)and constitutional symptoms(58.5%).The cases had a significantly higher frequency of HLA-DR2 allele compared with healthy controls(70.7%vs.43.8%;odds ratio:3.1;95%confidence interval:1.2-8.2).In addition,HLADQ6 allele was found to have a significant association with mucocutaneous manifestations of the cases(88.9%,P=0.03).Conclusions:Bangladeshi adults having HLA-DR2 may be more susceptible to ***-DQ6 allele might be associated with mucocutaneous manifestations of SLE.
