Predictive factors and model validation of post-colon polyp surgery Helicobacter pylori infection

BACKGROUND Recently,research has linked Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)stomach infection to colonic inflammation,mediated by toxin production,potentially impacting colorectal cancer occurrence.AIM To investigate the risk factors for post-colon polyp surgery,H.pylori infection,and its correlation with pathologic type.METHODS Eighty patients who underwent colon polypectomy in our hospital between January 2019 and January 2023 were retrospectively chosen.They were then randomly split into modeling(n=56)and model validation(n=24)sets using R.The modeling cohort was divided into an H.pylori-infected group(n=37)and an H.pylori-uninfected group(n=19).Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the factors influencing the occurrence of H.pylori infection after colon polyp surgery.A roadmap prediction model was established and validated.Finally,the correlation between the different pathological types of colon polyps and the occurrence of H.pylori infection was analyzed after colon polyp surgery.RESULTS Univariate results showed that age,body mass index(BMI),literacy,alcohol consumption,polyp pathology type,high-risk adenomas,and heavy diet were all influential factors in the development of H.pylori infection after intestinal polypectomy.Binary multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that age,BMI,and type of polyp pathology were independent predictors of the occurrence of H.pylori infection after intestinal polypectomy.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.969[95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.928–1.000]and 0.898(95%CI:0.773–1.000)in the modeling and validation sets,respectively.The slope of the calibration curve of the graph was close to 1,and the goodness-of-fit test was P>0.05 in the two sets.The decision analysis curve showed a high rate of return in both sets.The results of the correlation analysis between different pathological types and the occurrence of H.pylori infection after colon polyp surgery showed that hyperplastic polyps,inflammatory polyps,and the occurrence of

Fault Identification for Shear-Type Structures Using Low-Frequency Vibration Modes

Shear-type structures are common structural forms in industrial and civil buildings,such as concrete and steel frame structures.Fault diagnosis of shear-type structures is an important topic to ensure the normal use of structures.The main drawback of existing damage assessment methods is that they require accurate structural finite element models for damage assessment.However,for many shear-type structures,it is difficult to obtain accurate FEM.In order to avoid finite elementmodeling,amodel-freemethod for diagnosing shear structure defects is developed in this paper.This method only needs to measure a few low-order vibration modes of the structure.The proposed defect diagnosis method is divided into two stages.In the first stage,the location of defects in the structure is determined based on the difference between the virtual displacements derived from the dynamic flexibility matrices before and after damage.In the second stage,damage severity is evaluated based on an improved frequency sensitivity equation.Themain innovations of this method lie in two aspects.The first innovation is the development of a virtual displacement difference method for determining the location of damage in the shear structure.The second is to improve the existing frequency sensitivity equation to calculate the damage degree without constructing the finite elementmodel.Thismethod has been verified on a numerical example of a 22-story shear frame structure and an experimental example of a three-story steel shear structure.Based on numerical analysis and experimental data validation,it is shown that this method only needs to use the low-order modes of structural vibration to diagnose the defect location and damage degree,and does not require finite element modeling.The proposed method should be a very simple and practical defect diagnosis technique in engineering practice.

A 3D-printed microhemispherical shell resonator with electrostatic tuning for a Coriolis vibratory gyroscope

The emergence of microhemispherical resonant gyroscopes,which integrate the advantages of exceptional stability and long lifetime with miniaturization,has afforded new possibilities for the development of whole-angle gyroscopes.However,existing methods used for manufacturing microhemispherical resonant gyroscopes based on MEMS technology face the primary drawback of intricate and costly processing.Here,we report the design,fabrication,and characterization of the first 3D-printable microhemispherical shell resonator for a Coriolis vibrating gyroscope.We remarkably achieve fabrication in just two steps bypassing the dozen or so steps required in traditional micromachining.By utilizing the intricate shaping capability and ultrahigh precision offered by projection microstereolithography,we fabricate 3D high-aspect-ratio resonant structures and controllable capacitive air gaps,both of which are extremely difficult to obtain via MEMS technology.In addition,the resonance frequency of the fabricated resonators can be tuned by electrostatic forces,and the fabricated resonators exhibit a higher quality factor in air than do typical MEMS microhemispherical resonators.This work demonstrates the feasibility of rapidly batch-manufacturing microhemispherical shell resonators,paving the way for the development of microhemispherical resonator gyroscopes for portable inertial navigation.Moreover,this particular design concept could be further applied to increase uptake of resonator tools in the MEMS community.

Construction and properties of venlafaxine hydrochloride sustained release system based on hollow mesoporous silica microspheres

The aim of this work is to develop a venlafaxine hydrochloride sustained release system based on hollow mesoporous silica microspheres(HMSMs).HMSMs were innovatively prepared with tetraethyl silicate(TEOS)as the precursor and volatile n-heptane as a soft template.The obtained HMSMs show a well-defined hollow structure with an average size of 967 nm and pore volume of 0.85 cm^(3)/g,implying it is a potential drug carrier.Subsequently,venlafaxine hydrochloride(VF)was absorbed in the HMSMs with a content of 37.67% or so.The sustained release effect is further measured by the dissolution in-strument at 37℃ and 50 rpm in ultrapure water.The results showed that the HMSMs/VF system shows good sustained release properties compared with sustained release tablets with hydroxypropyl meth-ylcellulose as the main component.This HMSMs sustained release system appears to be a promising candidate for a sustained drug release.

Timing effect of high temperature exposure on the plasticity of internode and plant architecture in maize

The occurrence of high temperature(HT)in crop production is becoming more frequent and unpredictable with global warming,severely threatening food security.The state of an organ’s growth and development is largely determined by the temperature conditions it is exposed to over time.Maize is the main cereal crop,and its stem growth and plant architecture are closely related to lodging resistance,and especially sensitive to temperature.However,systematic research on the timing effect of HT on the sequentially developing internode and stem is currently lacking.To identify the timing effect of HT on the morphology and plasticity of the stem in maize,two hybrids(Zhengdan 958(ZD958),Xianyu 335(XY335))characterized by distinct morphological traits in the stem were exposed to a 7-day HT treatment from the V6 to V17 stages(Vn presents the vegetative stage with n leaves fully expanded)in 2019-2020.The results demonstrated that exposure to HT during V6-V12 accelerated the rapid elongation of stems.For instance,HT occurring at V7 and V12 specifically promoted the lengths and weights of the 3rd-5th and 9th-11th internodes,respectively.Meanwhile,HT slowed the growth of internodes adjacent to the promoted internodes.Interestingly,compared with control,the plant height was significantly increased soon after HT treatment,but the promotion effect became narrower at the subsequent flowering stage,demonstrating a self-adjusting mechanism in the maize plant in response to HT.Importantly,HT altered the plant architectures,including a rising of the ear position and increase in the ear position coefficient.XY335 exhibited greater sensitivity in stem development than ZD958 under HT treatment.These findings improve our systematic understanding of the plasticity of internode and plant architecture in response to the timing of HT exposure.

Efficient and selective H_(2)O_(2)production through uranyl-assisted photocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction process in a uranium-organic framework

Harnessing solar energy by photocatalytically converting oxygen and water into high-value-added H_(2)O_(2)is a promising way of alleviating both environmental and energy issues.It is worth noting that suppressing detrimental side reactions,such as the generation of·O_(2)^(-),is a critical approach to enhancing H_(2)O_(2)production.Herein,a 2-fold interpenetrating 3D uranium-organic framework(YTU-W-1)was developed and introduced for photocatalytic H_(2)O_(2)production.The material demonstrates a different photocatalytic mechanism when employing uranyl as an initiator,as compared with the conventional semiconductor photocatalytic pathway involving photo-generated charge carriers.Benefiting from the strong hydrogen abstraction effect of the U≡O·and the direct one-step oxygen reduction pathway,YTU-W-1 exhibits enhanced photocatalytic performance for H_(2)O_(2)production with yield efficiency of 221μmol h-1g-1.Furthermore,YTU-W-1 displays a high H_(2)O_(2)selectivity of 68%,confirmed by rotating ring-disk electrode(RRDE)measurement.DFTcalculations were used to elucidate the critical role of uranyl in the photocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction for H_(2)O_(2)production.This research introduces an innovative approach to photo-driven H_(2)O_(2)production,underscoring the potential for heterogeneous catalysts to engage in photocatalytic reactions independently of photogenerated charge carriers.

Potential risks of organic contaminated soil after persulfate remediation:Harmful gaseous sulfur release

Persulfate is considered a convenient and efficient remediation agent for organic contaminated soil.However,the potential risk of sulfur into the soil remediation by persulfate remains ignored.In this study,glass bottles with different persulfate dosages and groundwater tables were set up to simulate persulfate remediation of organic pollutants(aniline).The results found sulfate to be the main end-product(83.0%–99.5%)of persulfate remediation after10 days.Moreover,H_(2)S accounted for 93.4%–99.4%of sulfur reduction end-products,suggesting that H_(2)S was the final fate of sulfur.H_(2)S was released rapidly after one to three days at a maximum concentration of 33.0 ppm,which is sufficient to make a person uncomfortable.According to the fitted curve results,H_(2)S concentration decreased to a safe concentration(0.15 ppm)after 20–85 days.Meanwhile,the maximum concentration of methanethiol reached 0.6 ppm.These results indicated that secondary pollution from persulfate remediation could release harmful gases over a long time.Therefore,persulfate should be used more carefully as a remediation agent for soil contamination.

Rice gene OsUGT75A regulates seedling emergence under deep-sowing conditions

Poor seedling emergence is a challenge for direct seeding of rice under deep-sowing field conditions.Here we reveal that UDP-glucosyltransferase OsUGT75A promotes rice seedling emergence under deepsowing conditions by increasing shoot length.Expression of OsUGT75A was higher in the middle regions of the shoot and in shoots under deep-sowing conditions.Levels of free abscisic acid(ABA)and jasmonates(JA)were higher in shoots of OsUGT75A mutants than in those of wild-type plants,and OsUGT75A mutants were more sensitive to ABA and JA treatments.Reduced shoot length was attributed to higher ABA INSENSITIVE 3(OsABI3)expression and lower JASMONATE-ZIM domain protein(OsJAZ)expression in shoots.Shoot extension by OsUGT75A is achieved mainly by promotion of cell elongation.An elite haplotype of OsUGT75A associated with increased shoot length was identified among indica rice accessions.OsUGT75A acts to increase seedling emergence under deep-sowing conditions.

Alkaline soils pose an increasing problem for agriculture worldwide,but using stress-tolerant plants as green manure can improve marginal land.Here,we show that the legume Sesbania cannabina is very tolerant to alkaline conditions and,when used as a green manure,substantially improves alkaline soil.To understand genome evolution and the mechanisms of stress tolerance in this allotetraploid legume,we generated the first telomere-to-telomere genome assembly of S.cannabina spanning~2,087 Mb.The assembly included all centromeric regions,which contain centromeric satellite repeats,and complete chromosome ends with telomeric characteristics.Further genome analysis distinguished A and B subgenomes,which diverged approximately 7.9 million years ago.Comparative genomic analysis revealed that the chromosome homoeologs underwent large-scale inversion events(>10 Mb)and a significant,transposon-driven size expansion of the chromosome 5A homoeolog.We further identified four specific alkali-induced phosphate transporter genes in S.cannabina;these may function in alkali tolerance by relieving the deficiency in available phosphorus in alkaline soil.Our work highlights the significance of S.cannabina as a green tool to improve marginal lands and sheds light on subgenome evolution and adaptation to alkaline soils.
