BACKGROUND: Infantile Krabbe’s disease produces progressive neurologic deteri oration and death in early childhood. We hypothesized that transplantation of um bilical-cord blood from unrelated donors before the development of symptoms wou ld favorably alter the natural history of the disease among newborns in whom the disease was diagnosed because of a family history. We compared the outcomes amo ng these newborns with the outcomes among infants who underwent transplantation after the development of symptoms and with the outcomes in an untreated cohort o f affected children. METHODS: Eleven asymptomatic newborns (age range, 12 to 44 days) and 14 symptomatic infants (age range, 142 to 352 days) with infantile Kra bbe’s disease underwent transplantation of umbilical-cord blood from unrelated donors after myeloablative chemotherapy. Engraftment, survival, and neurodevelo pmental function were evaluated longitudinally for four months to six years. RES ULTS: The rates of donor-cell engraftment and survival were 100 percent and 100 percent, respectively, among the asymptomatic newborns (median follow-up, 3.0 years) and 100 percent and 43 percent, respectively, among the symptomatic infan ts (median follow-up, 3.4 years). Surviving patients showed durable engraftment of donor-derived hematopoietic cells with restoration of normal blood galactoc erebrosidase levels. Infants who underwent transplantation before the developmen t of symptoms showed progressive central myelination and continued gains in deve lopmental skills, and most had age-appropriate cognitive function and receptive language skills, but a few had mild-to-moderate delays in expressive language and mild-to-severe delays in gross motor function. Children who underwent tra nsplantation after the onset of symptoms had minimal neurologic improvement. INTRAOPERATIVE LOCALIZATION OF CORTICAL MOTOR EVOKED POTENTIALS IN CENTRAL SULCUS LESIONS

Objective To study direct cortical electrical stimulation technique for the recording of motor evoked potentials under general anesthesia in central sulcus lesions. Methods The largest N20-P25 response was recorded from postcentral gyrus by intraoperative monitoring of cortical motor evoked potentials in 10 patients with intracranial lesions near or in the central area. The muscles of upper extremity in all patients were activated by delivering stimulus to cortical areas continuously. Moving the cortical electrodes forward, the largest P20-N25 response, SEP phase reversal,was obtained as a motor center stimulus. In this site of cortex, a short train stimulation elicited reproducible muscle action potentials that could be observed from the oscilloscope without *** MEPs can be recorded, pre-and post-operatively, without motor deficits of upper limbs in all *** This technique seems to be preferable for intraoperative localization of motor evoked potentials in central sulcus lesions under total intravenous anesthesia.

＜正＞ A salient characteristic of english spoken by native Japanese is th tendency to produce intrusive vowels between consonants or following word-final consonants （e.g., english "stress" as /***/）. This study conducted speech analysis of a large set of Japanese-accented english utterances to evaluate the effects of various factors on vowel epenthesis. Results reveal effects of speaking rate and phonetic environment, but little effect of word familiarity and frequency.

＜正＞This study is a first step in a large-scale study that aims at quantifying the relationship between external facial movements, tongue movements, and the acoustics of speech sounds. The database analyzed consisted of 69 CV syllables spoken by two males and two females;each utterance was repeated four times. A Qualysis （optical motion capture system） and an EMA （electromagnetic midsaggital artieuiography） system were used to characterize facial and tongue movements, respectively. Acoustic features were represented by linear spectral pairs （LSP）. To quantify the correlation between them, a multilinear regression technique was applied. The results were analyzed in terms of vowel context, place of articulation, and individual articulatory （EMA or Optical） or acoustic （LSP） channel.

Intelligent chatbots powered by large language models(LLMs) have recently been sweeping the world,with potential for a wide variety of industrial applications. Global frontier technology companies are feverishly participating in LLM-powered chatbot design and development, providing several alternatives beyond the famous ChatGPT. However, training, fine-tuning, and updating such intelligent chatbots consume substantial amounts of electricity, resulting in significant carbon emissions. The research and development of all intelligent LLMs and software, hardware manufacturing(e.g., graphics processing units and supercomputers), related data/operations management, and material recycling supporting chatbot services are associated with carbon emissions to varying extents. Attention should therefore be paid to the entire life-cycle energy and carbon footprints of LLM-powered intelligent chatbots in both the present and future in order to mitigate their climate change impact. In this work, we clarify and highlight the energy consumption and carbon emission implications of eight main phases throughout the life cycle of the development of such intelligent chatbots. Based on a life-cycle and interaction analysis of these phases,we propose a system-level solution with three strategic pathways to optimize the management of this industry and mitigate the related footprints. While anticipating the enormous potential of this advanced technology and its products, we make an appeal for a rethinking of the mitigation pathways and strategies of the life-cycle energy usage and carbon emissions of the LLM-powered intelligent chatbot industry and a reshaping of their energy and environmental implications at this early stage of development.

Conclusion Only the amides which were exposed to the surface of HLA antigen can be camouflaged by mPEG. The amides on the surface of three-dimensional structure of HLA-A2 antigen determine the effect of the modification by various mPEGs.

＜正＞ This paper addresses the problem of state duration modeling in combination with spectral subtraction and Rasta filtering to cancel both additive and convolutional noise in a text-dependent speaker verification task. The results presented in this paper suggest that temporal constraints can lead to reductions of 30 and 14% in the error rates at SNR equal to 0 and 6dB, respectively, without noise canceling techniques. However, with noise canceling methods, temporal restrictions give a lower improvement, The results here shown propose that state duration modeling can be useful in those cases when the noise reduction is low.

＜正＞A sharable software repository for Japanese LVCSR （Large Vocabulary Continuous Speech Recognition） is introduced. It is designed as a baseline platform for research and developed by researchers of different academic institutes under a governmental support. The repository consists of a recognition engine （Julius）, Japanese acoustic models and statistical language models us well as Japanese morphological analysis tools. These modules can be easily integrated and replaced under a plug-and-play framework, which makes it possible to fairly evaluate components and to develop specific application systems. Assessment of these modules and systems in a 20000-word dictation task is reported. The software repository is freely available to the public.
