Analysis and Control of Air Pollution from Bus Exhaust in shantou City

Air pollution from bus exhaust （one of main sources of urban haze） in shantou City, Guangdong Province was surveyed, and the purification effect of a new device for removing soot particulates from bus exhaust was analyzed. The results show that the smoke intensity of all buses surveyed averages 3.59 m-1, exceeding the limit, and the maximum is 5.7 times higher than the limit. Among the buses inspected, the smoke intensity of 37% of buses is not up to standard. The removal rate of soot particulates from various buses equipped with the purification devJce averages 63.6%, and some buses are up to standard after their exhaust are purified, showing that the device has good purification effect. Therefore, installing the purification device in a bus is an effective way to control air pollution from bus exhaust and haze in a city.

In order to understand origin and fate of particulate organic matter,the isotopic composition(δ^(13)C andδ^(15)N),total or-ganic carbon content,total nitrogen content,and C/N ratios were measured for suspended particulate organic matter(POM)collected from the northern South China Sea(NSCS)during *** study revealed thatδ^(13)C generally decreased from land to sea,and elevatedδ^(13)C occurred at the nearshore stations,suggesting that POC was mainly contributed from the eutrophic level and microbial ***,the distribution ofδ^(15)N values were complicated,and heterotrophic modification was responsible for higherδ^(15)N in the nearshore *** distribution patterns ofδ^(13)C andδ^(15)N in the nearshore stations may be associated with the intensifi-cation of human activity in the *** on the Stable Isotope Analysis in R model,65%of POM was contributed by marine or-ganic matter in the NSCS,20%by terrestrial inputs,and 15%by freshwater algae.

A comparative analysis of child passenger restraint use in China and the United States

Ionic liquid-based transparent membrane-coupled human lung epithelium-on-a-chip demonstrating PM0.5 pollution effect under breathing mechanostress

The plausibility of human exposure to particulate matter(PM) has witnessed an increase within the last several years. PM of different sizes has been discovered in the atmosphere given the role of dust transport in weather and climate composition. As a regulator, the lung epithelium orchestrates the innate response to local damage. Herein, we developed a lung epithelium-on-a-chip platform consisting of easily moldable polydimethylsiloxane layers along with a thin, flexible, and transparent ionic liquid-based poly(hydroxyethyl) methacrylate gel membrane. The epithelium was formed through the culture of human lung epithelial cells(Calu-3) on this membrane. The mechanical stress at the air–liquid interface during inhalation/exhalation was recapitulated using an Arduino-based servo motor system, which applied a uniaxial tensile strength from the two sides of the chip with 10% strain and a frequency of 0.2 Hz. Subsequently, the administration of silica nanoparticles(PM0.5) with an average size of 463 nm to the on-chip platform under static, dynamic, and dynamic + mechanical stress(DMS) conditions demonstrated the effect of environmental pollutants on lung epithelium. The viability and release of lactate dehydrogenase were determined along with proinflammatory response through the quantification of tumor necrosis factor-α, which indicated alterations in the epithelium.

Risk Factors of Low Back Pain among the Chinese Occupational Population:A Case-control Study

Objective To explore the risk factors of low back pain among the Chinese occupational population in several major industries. Methods A total of 7200 subjects （3600 cases and 3600 controls） were randomly sampled from a cross-sectional study, and they were investigated for individual and occupational factors of low back pain. The potential risk factors were first selected by using chi-square tests. Secondly, collinearity diagnosis proceeded by using the Kendall＇s rank correlation. Finally, binary logistic regression model was used for multi-factor analysis. Results Collinearity diagnosis showed that there was a severe collinearity problem among the potential risk factors of low back pain. Logistic regression model included 20 variables with statistical significance. Bending neck forward or holding neck in a forward posturefor long periods （0R=1.408） was the most important risk factor inducing low back pain in this study, followed by bending heavily with the trunk （0R=1.402）, carrying out identical work almost for the whole day （0R=1.340）. Additionally, suHicient normal break was a protective factor of low back pain. Conclusion Low back pain among the Chinese occupational population was associated with body height, occupation, work organization, physical work, working posture, and others. All these risk factors could be regarded as the indicators of low back pain, and some relevant preventive measures should be taken to reduce low back pain risk.

Effects of oral administration recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing human-salmon calcitonin on hypercalcemia rats~

Recombinant human-salmon calcxtonin （hsCT） was synthesized and expressea on the cell surtaces ot recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae （yAGA2-hsCT） using the pAGA2-hsCT expression vector. Expression of recombinant hsCT was verified by flow *** resorption activity of osteoclasts was inhibited by recombinant hsCT protein which released from the cell surface of yAGA2-hsCT. Blood calcium determination in rats showed the activity of yAGA2-hsCT following oral administration of 5 mg/kg lyophilized transformant yeast to hypercalcemia rats decreases the serum calcium from 2.82 ±0.023 mM to 2.662 ± 0.012 mM.

Precise digital control system of a moving mirror's reciprocating move at even speed

The moving mirror＇s speed evenness and distance at even speed determine the spectrogram quality and resolution of the Fourier transform spectrometer （FTS）. To improve the performance of FTS, a precise control system is designed to realize the moving mirror （MM）＇s reciprocating move at even speed. A laser reference measurement interfer-ometer with phase-shifting through polarization is introduced, which makes the position measurement resolution reach the half wavelength of the laser. At the moment MM changes direction, the configuration of the interference signal is complicated, which induces the measurement count error using a common direction judgment method. In this paper, an improved direction judgment method is proposed based on the analysis of the interfering signal while MM changes direction, and the corresponding logical circuits are designed in Field Programmable Gate Array（FPGA）. The MM is driven by a moving coil direct current （DC） linear motor, and the mathematical model is described. According to the analysis of the system characteristics and requirement, a fuzzy-PID control strategy is proposed. The fuzzy-PID control algorithm and its digital realization are studied. In order to reduce the computing quantity, the PID parameters for different inputs are calculated in advance by computer and stored in memory as tables, so the main work of the fuzzy-PID digital control algorithm is the simple look-up of the table, which makes the computing quantity very small and easy to realize in a Digital Signal Processing （DSP） chip. The control system is realized, and the experiment results show that the moving mirror＇s speed reaches evenness within 0.1 s almost without overshoot after changing direction.
