Distribution and mapping of temperate savanna in the sandy lands of eastern China

Savannas are distributed globally across various *** perform a significant socioeconomic role in regulating net primary productivity and the terrestrial carbon *** to the high spatial heterogeneity induced by the mixed distribution of trees and grasses,current global land-cover classification maps often classify savannas as forests or grasslands Temperate savannas in China cover a vast area,yet their spatial patterns and extent remain poorly *** study developed a novel remote sensing temperate savannas mapping method by integrating very high-resolution （VHR） unmanned aerial vehicle （UAV） and GF-6 satellite imagery based on the vegetation structure characteristics of temperate savannas using the FAO definition of *** and validation datasets were collected from VHR UAV imagery covering the main temperate savannah types with a ground area of 1818 *** fractional woody vegetation cover （FWVC） and fractional herbaceous vegetation cover （FHVC） in temperate savannas were estimated by integrating Classification and Regression Tree and Random Forest *** current distribution of temperate savannas in the Horqin and Otindag Sandy Lands of Eastern China was mapped to a unit area of 0.5 *** root-mean-square error （RMSE） values for the FWVC and FHVC models were 10.69% and 11.67%,and the R2values were 0.66 and 0.63,*** assessment indicated that the new temperate savanna map had high identification accuracy,with a Kappa coefficient of 0.70,overall accuracy of 0.88,and average accuracy of *** savannas in the sandy lands of eastern China were primarily distributed in the northern Horqin Sandy Land the central and eastern regions of the Otindag Sandy Land,and the transition zone from the southern slopes of the Greater Khingan Mountains to the plains,covering a total area of 3.27×10～6 *** main savannah types were elm,oak/maple,and shrub *** savannas were widely distributed in the Otindag Sandy

In the context of the new normal of high-quality agricultural development,it is necessary to accelerate the comprehensive connection of scientific and technological services of provincial agricultural research institutes and industries,and mobilize the enthusiasm of scientific and technological service *** the new normal,traditional service types are single,technology promotion and training are becoming narrower and *** article analyzed the problems in scientific and technological services of provincial agricultural research institutes,including lack of comprehensive demonstration bases,not close cooperation between scientific and technological and the government and new business entities,and lack of incentive ***,it came up with some pertinent recommendations such as improving supporting mechanism construction,making classified evaluation,and changing the scientific and technological service concepts.

Metabolome and RNA-seq reveal discrepant metabolism and secretory metabolism profile in skeletal muscle between obese and lean pigs at different ages

Metabolites and metabolism-related gene expression profiles in skeletal muscle change dramatically under obesity, aging and metabolic disease. Since obese and lean pigs are ideal models for metabolic research. Here, we compared metabolome and transcriptome of Longissimus dorsi(LD) muscle between Taoyuan black(TB, obese) and Duroc(lean) pigs at different ages. We defined the “window phase” of intramuscular fat(IMF) deposition in TB pig, which has significantly higher IMF than Duroc pig. Our results displayed discrepant lipid composition and different expression genes(DEGs) enriched in lipid metabolism, and both metabolome and transcriptome analyses revealed stronger energy expenditure and more active amino acid and protein metabolism in Duroc pig. 10 up-and 51 down-regulated biomarker metabolites with age-and breed-specificity were identified. Potential secretory metabolites, including organic acid(fumaric acid, succinate,malic acid, and gamma-aminobutyric acid), amino acid(L-lysine, and L-glutamic acid), lipid(2-hydroxyisovaleric acid, and L-carnitine) were demonstrated a significant correlation with IMF deposition. Our research highlights the huge difference of metabolic spectrum in skeletal muscle between obese and lean model and muscle-derived secretory metabolites might act as an ambassador of intercellular communication to regulate systematic metabolism.

Exploring the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of vegetation changes in subtropical humid karst region under CO2 fertilization

Terrestrial ecosystems heavily depend on vegetation,which responds to carbon dioxide （CO2） fertilization in hot and humid *** subtropical humid karst region is a hot and humid region;whether and to what extent CO2fertilization affects vegetation changes in such regions remains *** this study,we investigated the degree to which CO2fertilization influences vegetation changes,along with their spatial and temporal differences,in the subtropical humid karst region using time-lag effect analysis,a random forest model,and multiple regression *** showed that CO2fertilization plays an important role in vegetation changes,exhibiting clear spatial variations across different geomorphological zones,with its degree of influence ranging mainly between 11%and 25%.The highest contribution of CO2fertilization was observed in the karst basin and non-karstic region,whereas the lowest contribution was found in the karst plateau *** studies have primarily attributed vegetation changes in subtropical humid karst region to ecological engineering,leading to an overestimation of its contribution to these *** findings of this study enhance the understanding of the mechanism of vegetation changes in humid karst region and provide theoretical and practical insights for ecological and environmental protection in these regions.

Evaluating the impacts of converting grain to vegetable fields on nitrate transport in the deep vadose zone of the North China Plain

Nitrate （NO3-） accumulation and transport processes in the thick vadose zone affect the evolution of the groundwater NO3-content in intensive agricultural *** land-use change （ALUC）,typically accompanied by substantial alterations in nitrogen fertilizer application and irrigation practices,is an important influencing *** study evaluated the changes in NO3-accumulation and transport in the deep vadose zone （DVZ,below the root zone）,and the groundwater NO3-content associated with ALUC from grain to vegetable fields in the North China Plain （NCP）.The ALUC from grain to vegetable resulted in nitrate–nitrogen （NO3--N） accumulation in DVZ increased by 235.5 kg ha-1m-1（163.2%） in the piedmont plain and 224.9 kg ha-1m-1（102.7%） in the central plain,*** change accelerated downward transport velocity in the DVZ (from 0.81±0.47 to 0.89±0.55 m yr-1in the piedmont plain,and from 0.24±0.12 to 0.92±0.12 m yr-1in the central plain) and increased NO3-leaching *** transport velocity and leaching fluxes resulted in chemical N-fertilizer entering the aquifer in several areas in the piedmont *** impact of the agricultural activity intensity changes,accompanied by the ALUC,on groundwater quantity and quality should be considered in similar regions.

Effect of Partial Root-Zone Irrigating Deuterium Oxide on the Properties of Water Transportation and Distribution in Young Apple Trees

Partial root-zone irrigation （PRI） has been proved to be an optimal water-saving irrigation technology, however, few studies were done on water transportation and distribution under PRI. The present study was performed to investigate the water transportation and distribution among the wet and dry root-zones and the shoot using deuterium water （D2O） in 1/4 root-zone PRI experiment. It also aimed to determine and analyze the D2O relative abundance within different types of roots and shoots. The results indicated that water could be transported from roots in wet root-zone to roots in dry root-zone and shoots within 2 h after irrigation. Water transportation in roots of wet-zone was carried out by absorbing root, 1-2 mm root, 2-5 mm root, and〉5 mm root progressively, while through a reverse process in three dry root-zones. In shoots, water was transported to trunk, central trunk, annual branches, shoot and leaf progressively. Thus in the young apple trees subjected to PRI, water was distributed ifrst in the roots, including the roots in the wet and dry root-zones, to satisfy the water need of roots itself, and then transported to the shoot within hours of irrigation.

Spatiotemporal characteristics and influencing factors of vegetation water use efficiency on the Tibetan Plateau in 2001–2020

Water use efficiency （WUE）,as a pivotal indicator of the coupling degree within the carbon–water cycle of ecosystems,holds considerable importance in assessment of the carbon–water balance within terrestrial ***,in the context of global warming,WUE evolution and its primary drivers on the Tibetan Plateau remain *** study employed the ensemble empirical mode decomposition method and the random forest algorithm to decipher the nonlinear trends and drivers of WUE on the Tibetan Plateau in 2001–*** indicated an annual mean WUE of 0.8088 gC/mm·m2across the plateau,with a spatial gradient reflecting decrease from the southeast toward the *** manifesting monotonous trends of increase or decrease in WUE accounted for 23.64%and 9.69%of the total,***,66.67%of the region exhibited trend reversals,i.e.,39.94%of the area of the Tibetan Plateau showed transition from a trend of increase to a trend of decrease,and 26.73%of the area demonstrated a shift from a trend of decrease to a trend of *** factors accounted for 70.79%of the variability in *** leaf area index and temperature served as the major driving forces of WUE variation.

Genomic and transcriptomic insights into cytochrome P450 monooxygenase genes involved in nicosulfuron tolerance in maize(Zea mays L.)

Postemergence application of nicosulfuron for weed control in maize fields can cause great damage to certain maize inbred lines and hybrids. Two maize genotypes, tolerant inbred(HBR) and sensitive inbred(HBS), were found to significantly differ in their phenotypic responses to nicosulfuron, with the EC50(50% effective concentration) values differed statistically(763.6 and 5.9 g a.i. ha–1, respectively). Pre-treatment with malathion, a known cytochrome P450 inhibitor, increased nicosulfuron injury in both HBR and HBS. Our results support the hypothesis that nicosulfuron selectivity in maize is associated with cytochrome P450 metabolism. Further analysis of the maize genome resulted in the identification of 314 full length cytochrome P450 monooxygenase(CYP) genes. These genes were classified into 2 types, 10 clans and 44 families. The CYP71 clan was represented by all A-type genes(168) belonging to 17 families. Nine clans possessed 27 families containing 146 non-A-type genes. The consensus sequences of the heme-binding regions of A-type and non-A-type CYP proteins are ‘PFGXGRRXCPG’ and ‘FXXGPRXCXG’, respectively. Illumina transcriptome sequence results showed that there were 53 differentially expressed CYP genes on the basis of high variation in expression between HBS and HBR, nicosulfuron-treated and untreated samples. These genes may contribute to nicosulfuron tolerance in maize. A hierarchical clustering analysis obtained four main clusters named C1 to C4 in which 4, 15, 21, and 13 CYP genes were found in each respective cluster. The expression patterns of some CYP genes were confirmed by RT-q PCR analysis. The research will improve our understanding of the function of maize cytochrome P450 in herbicide metabolism.

Identifi cation of a novel male sterile wheat mutant dms conferring dwarf status and multi-pistils

Plant height and fertility are two important traits of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), whose mutants are ideal materials for studies on molecular mechanisms of stem and lforal organ development. In this study, we identiifed a dwarf, multi-pistil and male sterile (dms hereafter) wheat mutant from Zhoumai 18. Simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker assay with 181 primer pairs showed that only one locus of GWM148-2B was divergent between Zhoumai 18 and dms. There were three typical phenotypes in the progeny of dms, tal (T;ca. 0.8 m), semi-dwarf (M;ca. 0.6 m) and dwarf (D;under 0.3 m) plants. Morphological investigation indicated that the internode length of M was shortened by about 20–50 mm each;the internode number of D was 2 less than that of T and Zhoumai 18, and its internode length was shorter also. The pol en vigor and hybridization test demonstrated that dms mutant was male sterility. Segregated phenotypes in progeny of M suggested that the multi-pistils and sterility were control ed by one recessive gene locus which was designated as dms temporarily, and the plant height was control ed by a semi-dominant gene locus Dms. Therefore, progeny individuals of the dms had three genotypes, DmsDms for tal plants, Dmsdms for semi-dwarf plants and dmsdms for dwarf plants. The mutant progenies were individual y selected and propagated for more than 6 generations, thus a set of near isogenic lines of T, M and D for dms were developed. This study provides a set germplasms for studies on molecular mechanisms of wheat stem and spike development.
