This article aims to provide reference for medicine-engineering interdisciplinary research.Targeted at the scientific literature and patent literature published by shanghai jiao tong university,this article attempts to set up co-occurrence matrix of medicine-engineering institutional information which was extracted from address fields of the papers,so as to construct the medicine-engineering intersection datasets.The dataset of scientific literature was analyzed using bibliometrics and visualization methods from multiple dimensions,and the most active factors,such as trends of output,journal and subject distribution,were identified from the indicators of category normalized citation impact(CNCI),times cited,keywords,citation topics and the degree of medicineengineering interdisplinary.Research on hotspots and trends was discussed in detail.Analyses of the dataset of patent literature showed research themes and measured the degree for technology convergence of medicineengineering.

To enhance the competence of medical students, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine innovates the new PRICE education model, through Problem-based Learning(P) and Research-based learning(R), guides the students to give full play to the active learning; break the traditional discipline-centered teaching model by an integrated curriculum(I),combines with clinical practice-based learning(C) to solve the disjointed question between the basic theory and clinical practice in medical education, uses the comprehensive evaluation system(E) to assess the learning effect of the students and the quality of the teaching. The PRICE education model is verified by our educational practice.

The gut is the largest digestive and absorptive organ,which is essential for induction of mucosal and systemic immune responses,and maintenance of metabolic-immune homeostasis.The intestinal components contain the epithelium,stromal cells,immune cells,and enteric nervous system(ENS),as well as the outers,such as gut microbiota,metabolites,and nutrients.The dyshomeostasis of intestinal microenvironment induces abnormal intestinal development and functions,even colon diseases including dysplasia,inflammation and tumor.Several recent studies have identified that ENS plays a crucial role in maintaining the immune homeostasis of gastrointestinal(GI)microenvironment.The crosstalk between ENS and immune cells,mainly macrophages,T cells,and innate lymphoid cells(ILCs),has been found to exert important regulatory roles in intestinal tissue programming,homeostasis,function,and inflammation.In this review,we mainly summarize the critical roles of the interactions between ENS and immune cells in intestinal homeostasis during intestinal development and diseases progression,to provide theoretical bases and ideas for the exploration of immunotherapy for gastrointestinal diseases with the ENS as potential novel targets.

We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir(Paxlovid)therapy for hemodialysis-dependent patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection.Thirteen hemodialysis patients infected with the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 from April 3 to May 30,2022,were recruited.Laboratory parameters and chest CT(computed tomography)imaging were analyzed.The treatment group included six patients who received 150 mg/100 mg of Paxlovid orally once daily for 5 days,whereas the control group included seven patients who received basic treatment.No serious adverse reactions or safety events were recorded.Four control patients progressed to moderate disease,and none in the treatment group showed progression of chest CT findings(P<0.05).Paxlovid therapy tended toward early viral clearance and low viral load on Day 8.Moreover,83.3%of the patients in the treatment group and 57.1%of the patients in the control group turned negative within 22 days.In the Paxlovid treatment group,we found significantly increased levels of lymphocytes(P=0.03)and eosinophils(P=0.02)and decreased levels of D-dimer on Day 8 compared with those on Day 1.Paxlovid therapy showed a potential therapeutic effect with good tolerance in hemodialysis patients.The optimal dose and effectiveness evaluation must be further investigated in a largeer cohort.

OBJECTIVE To investigate serum triglycerides in relation to all-cause,cardiovascular,and non-cardiovascular mortality in an elderly Chinese population.METHODS The study participants(n=3565)were elderly(≥60 years)community dwellers living in a suburban town of shanghai.Hypertriglyceridemia was defined as a serum triglycerides concentration≥2.30 mmol/L(definite)and≥1.70 mmol/L(borderline),respectively.RESULTS The prevalence of definite and borderline hypertriglyceridemia at baseline was 7.5%and 29.5%,respectively.It was higher in women(n=1982,9.0%and 33.8%,respectively)than men(n=1583,6.2%and 27.9%,respectively),in obese and over-weight participants(n=1566,10.5%and 36.4%,respectively)than normal weight participants(n=1999,5.6%and 27.1%,respect-ively),and in diabetic participants(n=177,11.9%and 39.0%,respectively)than non-diabetic participants(n=3388,7.5%and 30.8%,respectively).During a median of 7.9 years follow-up,all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular deaths occurred in 529,216 and 313 participants,respectively.In analyses according to the quintile distributions of serum triglycerides concentration,the sex-and age-standardized mortality rate was lowest in the middle quintile for all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascu-lar mortality(18.6,7.8 and 11.9 per 1000 person-years,respectively,versus 21.5,10.5 and 12.7 per 1000 person-years,respectively,in the two lower quintiles and 21.7,9.5 and 14.0 per 1000 person-years,respectively,in the two higher quintiles).The fully adjus-ted hazard ratios(95%CI)for the middle quintile versus the combined two lower with two higher quintiles were 0.85(95%CI:0.67-1.07,P=0.17),0.81(95%CI:0.54-1.19,P=0.28)and 0.87(95%CI:0.64-1.17,P=0.35)for all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality,respectively.CONCLUSIONS Our study showed high prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia,especially when defined as borderline and in obese and overweight participants,and mildly but non-significantly elevated risks of cardiovascular mortality relative to the middle level of serum trig

Background:Thymic carcinomas(TCs)and thymic neuroendocrine neoplasms(TNENs)are two aggressive subtypes of thymic malignancy.Traditional therapy for advanced TCs and TNENs has limited outcome.New genomic profiling of TCs and TNENs might provide insights that contribute to the development of new treatment approaches.Methods:We used gene panel sequencing technologies to investigate the genetic aberrations of 32 TC patients and 15 TNEN patients who underwent surgery at shanghai Chest Hospital between 2015 and 2017.Patient samples were sequenced using a 324-gene platform with licensed technologies.In this study,we focused on clinically relevant genomic alterations(CRGAs),which are previously proven to be pathogenic alterations,to identify the pathology-specific mutational patterns,prognostic signatures of TCs and TNENs.Results:The mutational profiles between TCs and TNENs were diverse.The genetic alterations that ranked highest in TCs were in CDKN2A,TP53,ASXL1,CDKN2B,PIK3C2G,PTCH1,and ROS1,while those in TNENs were in MEN1,MLL2,APC,RB1,and TSC2.Prognostic analysis showed that mutations of ROS1,CDKN2A,CDKN2B,BRAF,and BAP1 were significantly associated with worse outcomes in TC patients,and that mutation of ERBB2 indicated shortened disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS)in TNEN patients.Further investigation found that the prognosis-related genes were focused on signal pathways of cell cycle control,chromatin remodeling/DNA methylation,phosphoinositide 3-kinases(PI3K)/protein kinase B(AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR),and receptor tyrosine kinase(RTK)/RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling.Conclusion:We profiled the mutational features of 47 Chinese patients with thymic malignancy of diverse pathologic phenotypes to uncover the integrated genomic landscape of these rare tumors,and identified the pathology-specific mutational patterns,prognostic signatures,and potential therapeutic targets for TCs and TNENs.

Chimeric antigen receptor T cells(CAR-T cells) are engineered recombinant T cells, which were initially used to treat hematopoietic malignancies and are now widely used in the treatment of various diseases. Considering their intrinsic targeting efficiency, CAR-T cells show considerable potential in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.Furthermore, regulatory T cells(Treg), a subset of CD4 T cells exhibiting immunosuppressive functions,have attracted increasing attention regarding CARTreg cell production. In this review, we report on recent developments in preclinical and clinical studies on CAR-T cells in autoimmune diseases and provide an outlook on opportunities and challenges of CAR-T application in such diseases.

Objective Fine particulate matter(PM^(2.5))is an air pollutant that has become of great concern in recent years.Numerous studies have found that PM^(2.5)may contribute to lung cancer,but the pathogenesis has not yet been fully elucidated.In this study,we explored the roles of exosomes from bronchial epithelial cells in PM^(2.5)-promoted lung cancer metastasis.Methods Exosomes were isolated from cell supernatants.An animal model of lung metastasis(established by tail vein injection of A549-luc)and in vitro studies with lung cancer cell lines were used to investigate the effects of exosomes derived from PM^(2.5)-treated human bronchial epithelial cells(PHBE-exo).Results The animal experiments revealed that PHBE-exo-treated mice showed stronger luciferase activity and a larger relative metastatic region in the lungs,thus indicating that PHBE-exo promoted the metastatic potential of lung cancer.Additionally,PHBE-exo promoted the migration,invasion and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition of lung cancer cells,in a manner mediated by activation of c-Jun Nterminal kinase.Conclusion These results implied that PM^(2.5)may promote the development of lung cancer through exosomes derived from bronchial epithelial cells,thus providing a potential interventional target for lung cancer.These findings broadened our understanding of cancer-promoting mechanisms of environmental pollutants.

BACKGROUND:Diverse models of automated external defibrillators(AEDs)possess distinctive features.This study aimed to investigate whether laypersons trained with one type of AED could intelligently use another initial contact type of AED with varying features.METHODS:This was a prospective crossover simulation experimental study conducted among college students.Subjects were randomly trained with either AED1(AED1 group)or AED2(AED2 group),and the AED operation performance was evaluated individually(Phase I test).At the 6-month follow-up AED performance test(Phase II test),half of the subjects were randomly switched to use another type of AED,which formed two switches(Switch A:AED1-1 group vs.AED2-1 group;Switch B:AED2-2 group vs.AED1-2 group).RESULTS:A total of 224 college students participated in the study.In the phase I test,a significantly higher proportion of successful defibrillation and shorter shock delivery time to achieve successful defibrillation was observed in the AED2 group than in the AED1 group.In the phase II test,no statistical differences were observed in the proportion of successful defibrillation in Switch A(51.4%vs.36.6%,P=0.19)and Switch B(78.0%vs.53.7%,P=0.08).The median shock delivery time within participants achieving successful defibrillation was significantly longer in the switched group than that of the initial group in both Switch A(89[81-107]s vs.124[95-135]s,P=0.006)and Switch B(68[61.5-81.5]s vs.95.5[55-131]s,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:College students were able to effectively use AEDs different from those used in the initial training after six months,although the time to shock delivery was prolonged.

The trajectories of physical growth in 4 months postnatal corrected age among preterm infants discharged from neonatal intensive care units and associated factors: A prospective study

Objectives Growth retardation is a risk for premature infants.In addition to demographic and perinatal factors,preterm infants’physical growth may be affected by neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)stress,maternal postpartum depression,and mother-infant interaction.This study aimed to investigate the trajectories of physical growth in 4 months corrected age among preterm infants discharged from the NICU and the impactors on these trajectories.Methods A prospective study was conducted among 318 preterm infants from September 2019 to April 2021 in shanghai,China.Latent growth modeling was applied to identify the weight,length,and head circumference growth trajectories in 4 months corrected age and explore the effects of demographic and medical characteristics,infant stress during NICU stay,maternal postpartum depression,and mother-infant interaction on each trajectory.Results Unconditional latent growth models showed curve trajectories with increasingly slower growth in weight,length,and head circumference until 4 months of corrected age.Conditional latent growth models showed that a longer length of stay in the NICU and more skin punctures were negatively associated with weight at 40 weeks corrected gestational age(β=−0.43 and−0.19,respectively,P<0.05).The maternal postpartum depression between 40 weeks corrected gestational age and 1 month corrected postnatal age was associated with a lower growth rate of length(β=−0.17,P=0.040),while between 2 and 3 months corrected postnatal age,there were lower growth rates of weight and head circumference(β=−0.15 and−0.19,respectively,P<0.05).The mother-infant interaction scores between 40 weeks corrected gestational age and 1 month corrected postnatal age negatively predicted the growth rate of weight(β=−0.19,P=0.020).Conclusion The physical growth trajectories of preterm infants discharged from the NICU were influenced by infant stress during the NICU stay,maternal postpartum depression and mother-infant interaction.
