Milling degree affects the fermentation properties of rice:perspectives from the composition of nutrients and gut microbiota via in vitro fermentation

Fermentation substrates of rice with different milling degrees(Mds) were prepared and fermented with human feces to compare their fermentation properties and effects on gut microbiota.Md 0s,Md 5s and Md 60s represented brown rice,moderately-milled rice and white rice,respectively.After in vitro fermentation,the Md 5s group showed higher starch utilization,compared with the Md 0s and 60s groups evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer,and confocal laser scanning microscope.Effects of fermentation substrates of rice with different Mds on gut microbiota were evaluated by 16S rdNA sequencing.All the sample groups reduced the pH and produced short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs) and branched-chain fatty acids.The Md 5s group exhibited higher α-diversity than the Md 0s and 60s groups.Abundances of Phascolarctobacterium,Blautia and norank_f_ruminococcaceae were higher in the Md 0s and 5s groups,compared with the Md 60s group.These bacteria were also positively correlated with the SCFAs production via Spearman correlation analysis.In vitro culture assay revealed that fermentation substrates of Md 0s and 5s promoted the growth of two probiotics(Akkermansia muciniphila and Bifidobacterium adolescentis).Our results showed that moderate milling might be an appropriate way to produce rice products with richer nutrients and better fermentation properties.

For time-of-flight(TOF)light detection and ranging(LidAr),a three-channel high-performance transimpedance amplifier(TIA)with high immunity to input load capacitance is presented.A regulated cascade(rGC)as the input stage is at the core of the complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS)circuit chip,giving it more immunity to input photodiode detectors.A simple smart output interface acting as a feedback structure,which is rarely found in other designs,reduces the chip size and power consumption simultaneously.The circuit is designed using a 0.5μm CMOS process technology to achieve low cost.The device delivers a 33.87 dB?transimpedance gain at 350 MHz.With a higher input load capacitance,it shows a-3 dB bandwidth of 461 MHz,indicating a better detector tolerance at the front end of the system.Under a 3.3 V supply voltage,the device consumes 5.2 mW,and the total chip area with three channels is 402.8×597.0μm2(including the test pads).

The taste presentation and receptor perception mechanism of the salty peptide of Stropharia rugosoannulata were predicted and verified using peptide omics and molecular interaction techniques.The combination of aspartic acid(d)and glutamic acid(E),or peptide fragments composed of arginine(r),constitute the characteristic taste structural basis of salty peptides of S.rugosoannulata.The taste intensity of the salty peptide positively correlates with its concentration within a specific concentration range(0.25–1.0 mg/mL).The receptor more easily recognizes the first amino acid residue at the N-terminal of salty peptides and the aspartic acid residue in the peptides.GLU513,ASP707,and VAL508 are the critical amino acid residues for the receptor to recognize salty peptides.TrPV1 is specifically the receptor for recognizing salty peptides.Hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions are the main driving forces for the interactions between salty peptides and TrPV1 receptors.KSWddFFTr has the most potent binding capacity with the receptor and has tremendous potential for application in sodium salt substitution.This study confirmed the taste receptor that specifically recognizes salty peptides,analyzed the receptor-peptide binding interaction,and provided a new idea for understanding the taste receptor perception of salty peptides.

Study on Skin Care Efficacy of the Active Ingredients in Camellia Japonica Flowers at High and Low Altitudes

The active ingredients of Camellia japonica flowers(CJF)at high and low altitudes,as well as their skin care efficacy were compared.The dried red CJF at high and low altitudes were ultrasonically extracted with 70%ethanol,and these extracts were concentrated and then diluted to a constant volume.The content of total flavonoids,total polyphenols and total proteins was tested and analyzed.In addition,dPPH free radical scavenging,inhibition of the formation of advanced glycation end products,and inhibitory activity against elastase was measured to compare their skin care efficacy in anti-oxidation,anti-glycation,anti-wrinkling and firming.The results showed that,based on the dry weight of CJF,the content of total flavonoids and total proteins of the CJF at high altitude was approximately 1.5 times of the CJF at low altitude,while the content of total polyphenols was approximately 2.4 times that of the CJF at low altitude.The skin care efficacy of CJF at high altitude was significantly better than that of the CJF at low altitude.This work could provide theoretical basis for the selection and application of Camellia japonica flowers in the field of cosmetics.

Background:Although the constitutively activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway plays vital roles in gastric cancer(GC)progression,few Wnt inhibitors are approved for clinical use.Additionally,the clinical significance of long non-coding rNAs(lncrNAs)in GC intraperitoneal dissemination(IPd)remains elusive.Here,we investigated the function and therapeutic potential of Wnt-transactivated lncrNA,colon cancer-associated transcript 5(CCAT5),in GC metastasis.Methods:LncrNA-sequencing assay was performed to document abun-dance changes of lncrNAs induced by Wnt family member 3A(Wnt3a)and degradation-resistantβ-catenin(S33Y mutated)in ascites-derived GC cells with low Wnt activity.Luciferase reporter,Chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)-re-ChIP assays were performed to determine how CCAT5 was tran-scribed.The clinical significance of CCAT5 was examined in 2 cohorts of GC patients.The biological function of CCAT5 was investigated through gain-and loss-of-function studies.The molecular mechanism was explored through rNA-sequencing,mass spectrometry,and CrISPr/Cas9-knocknout system.The therapeutic potential of CCAT5 was examined through rNAi-based cell xenograft model and patient-derived xenograft(PdX)model of IPd.results:WeidentifiedanovelWnt-regulatedlncrNA,CCAT5,whichwastrans-activated by theβ-catenin/transcription factor 3(TCF3)complex.CCAT5 was significantly upregulated in GC and predicted poor prognosis.Functional studies confirmed the promotive role of CCAT5 in GC growth and metastasis.Mechanis-tically,CCAT5 bound to the C-end domain of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)and blocks Src homology 2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase 1(SHP-1)-mediated STAT3 Y705 dephosphorylation,leading to STAT3 nuclear entry and transactivation,thus accelerating GC progression.Furthermore,we demonstrated that both Wnt3a andβ-catenin acted as activa-tor of STAT3 signaling pathway,and the interplay between CCAT5 and STAT3 was functionally essential for Wnt-drived STAT3 signaling and tumor evolu-tion.Fina

Gas-produced water is an accompanying wastewater in the natural gas extraction process,and it is a potential liquid lithium resource that contains a considerable amount of lithium.This study investigated the feasibility of using manganese-based ion sieves to adsorb and extract lithium from gas-produced water.And we focused on the applicability of two different granulation methods,extrusion and droplet,in gas-produced water systems.Two types of H_(1.33)Mn_(1.67)O_(4) particles were prepared by the extrusion method(EHMO)and the droplet method(dHMO).The porosity of dHMO was much higher than that of EHMO,and the adsorption performance of dHMO increased with the decrease of binder concentration.dHMO prepared with a binder concentration of 0.14 g·ml^(-1)exhibited the best adsorption performance in gas-produced water,and the Li^(+)adsorption capacity could reach 25.14 mg·g^(-1).In gas-produced water,the adsorption equilibrium of dHMO only took 9 h,and the adsorption process conformed to the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model.The pore diffusion model(PdM)could well describe its adsorption process.Besides,dHMO showed a great selectivity to Li^(+),and the selectivity order of dHMO in gas-produced water was Li^(+)>Ba^(2+)>>Mg^(2+),Ca^(2+),Sr^(2+)>>Na^(+)>>K^(+).After 20 cycles,the Li^(+)adsorption capacity was still higher than 17.30 mg·g^(-1),and the rate of manganese dissolution was less than 1%.

The rapid diffusion of renewable energy boosts the wide deployment of large-scale energy storage system.With the low cost and high crustal abundance,sodium-ion battery(SIB)technology is expected to become a dominant technology in that area in the future.Toward the practical application,novel cathode materials are urged to develop that show high energy density without sacrificing their cost and benignity to the environment.While the years of many studies,this still remains a huge challenge to battery scientists.In this review,we discuss recent breakthroughs in SIB cathode materials with high energy density,namely fluorphosphates and fluorosulfates.The design of materials,the crystal structure,the electrochemical performance,and the underlaying intercalation mechanism are systematically reviewed.Useful strategies and research directions are also provided to advance future high-energy,low-cost,and ecofriendly cathode materials for next generation SIB.

Background This retrospective study assessed the efficacy and safety of ketogenic diet therapies in children with epilepsy caused by SLC2A1 genetic mutations and glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome.Methods Pediatric patients with epilepsy symptoms admitted to our medical center between January 2017 and October 2021 were included if they presented with an SLC2A1 genetic mutation on whole-exome sequencing.We analyzed the patients’convulsions and treatment with antiepileptic drugs.The patients were followed up at different time periods after ketogenic diet therapies.results Six patients with SLC2A1 mutations were included in this study.The patients had seizures of different types and frequencies,and they took antiepileptic drugs to relieve their symptoms.They were then treated with a ketogenic diet for at least four months.We analyzed epilepsy control rates at 1,2,3,6,and 12 months after ketogenic diet treatment.All patients were seizure-free within a month of receiving the diet therapy.All patients were followed up for six months,three were followed up for 12 months after the treatment,and there was no recurrence of epilepsy during this period.After antiepileptic drug withdrawal,none of the patients experienced seizure relapse when receiving ketogenic diet treatment alone.No severe adverse events occurred during the therapy.conclusions Ketogenic diet therapy is very effective and safe for the treatment of epilepsy caused by SLC2A1 mutations.Therefore,patients with glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome caused by SLC2A1 mutations should begin ketogenic diet treatment as soon as possible.
