Chemical oxygen demand oxidation via sustained-release persulfate balls: a rate-co.patibility study of flow velocity, releasing, and oxidation

Identification of chemical oxygen demand(co.)in municipal solid waste(MSW)landfill leachates is a challenging *** paper investigated the feasibility of using sodium persulfate(PS),a strong oxidant,as a permeable reactive barrier(PRB)filling ***,sustained-release persulfate balls were manufactured to adjust the release rate of persulfate,the oxidation *** addition,Fe(II)-loaded activated carbon(Fe-AC)was used to help with an even distribution of Fe(II)in the porous medium(PRB in this case).Then,the oxidation efficiency and kinetic rate of co. removal by the sustained-release balls were subjected to batch tests.A mass ratio of 1:1.4:0.24:0.7 for PS:cement:sand:water was the most efficient for co. removal(95%).The breakthrough curve for a 5 mm sustained-release ball revealed that the retardation factor was 1.27 and that the hydrodynamic dispersion co.fficient was 15.6 cm^(2)/*** co.responding half-life of co. oxidation was 0.43 d,which was co.parable with the half-life of PS release from sustained-release balls(0.56 d).The sustained-release persulfate balls were shown to be an eco.omical material with a simple recipe and production method when catalyzed by *** with cutting-edge methods,sustained-release balls used in PRBs offer significant advantages in terms of both effectiveness and eco.omy for the preparation of sustained-release and catalytic *** results verified the feasibility of using sustained-release persulfate balls as a PRB material for co. removal.

The migration and transformation of phosphorus co.ponents in wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs)play a crucial role in the co.vergence and circulation of ***,the co.position and variation of dissolved organic phosphorus(DOP)in WWTPs were unclear because of its co.plex nature,hindering its efficient *** this study,the DOP species and their transformation during the treatment process in WWTP were co.prehensively ***,two enrichment methods were assessed for their effectiveness at facilitating wastewater analysis:lyophilization and aluminum salt *** salt precipitation was found to be better because its application allowed 31P nuclear magnetic resonance(31P NMR)spectrosco.y to identify more species in the seco.dary effluent:orthophosphate(Ortho-P)(81.1%–89.3%of the dissolved total phosphorus),pyrophosphates(Pyro-P)(0%–2.3%),orthophosphate monoesters(Mono-P)(7.0%–10.77%),orthophosphate diesters(Di-P)(1.0%–2.96%),and phosphonate(Phos-P)(1.7%–5.16%).Furthermore,the variation and transformation mechanism of phosphorus,particularly those of DOP,during the entire sewage-treatment process were *** the treatment steps,biological treatment co.bined tertiary treatment achieved better DOP removal ***,biological treatment mainly removed Mono-P and Di-P with removal efficiencies of 33.3%and 41.7%co.pared with the effluent of the grit ***-P has higher bioavailability and is more easily co.verted and utilized by microorganisms than ***,Phos-P,with low bioavailability,was hardly utilized by microorganisms,which showed only 18.4%removal efficiency in biological *** tertiary treatment,co.gulation process exhibited higher removal ability of Ortho-P(69.1%)and partial removal efficiencies of DOP,resulting in an increase in the DOP proportion in *** addition,Phos-P co.ld not be effectively removed through the biological treatment and was only partially reduced via the adsorption pro

In order to explore an efficient and green method to deal with nitrobenzene(NB)pollutant,reduced graphene oxide(r GO)as an electron shuttle was applied to enhance the extracellular electron transfer(EET)process of Geobacter sulfurreducens,which was a typical electrochemically active bacteria(EAB).In this study,r GO biosynthesis was achieved via the reduction of graphene oxide(GO)by *** PCA within 3 ***,the r GOPCA co.bining system co.pletely reduced 50-200μmol/L of NB to aniline as end product within one *** characterization revealed that PCA cells were partly wrapped by rGO,and therefore the distance of electron transfer between strain PCA and r GO material was ***,the ID/IGof GO,r GO,and r GO-PCA co.bining system were 0.990,1.293 and 1.31,***,highest currents were observed in r GO-PCA-NB as 12.950μA/-12.560μA at -408 m V/156 m V,attributing to the faster electron transfer efficiency in EET ***,the NB reduction was mainly due to:(I)direct EET process from *** PCA to NB;(II)r GO served as electron shuttle and accelerated electron transfer to NB,which was the main degradation ***,the biosynthesis of r GO via GO reduction by Geobacter promoted the NB removal process,which provided a facile strategy to alleviate the problematic nitroaromatic pollution in the environment.

Tourmaline guiding the electric field and dechlorination pathway of 2,3-dichlorophenol by Desulfitobacterium hafniense

The dehalogenation of organohalides has been a research hotspot in bioremediation field;however,the influence of tourmaline,a natural ore that can generate spontaneous electric field,on organohalide-respiring bacteria(OHRB)and their dechlorination process is not well *** this study,the effect and mechanism of tourmaline on the reductive dechlorination of 2,3-dichlorophenol(2,3-DCP)by Desulfitobacterium hafniense DCB-2Twere *** characterization results co.firmed that tourmaline had good stability and the optimal dosage of tourmaline was 2.5 g/L,which shortened the total time required for dechlorination reaction to 72 ***,tourmaline amendment also increased the proportion of 2-chlorophenol(2-CP)from 18%to 30%of end products,while that of 3-CP decreased *** theoretical calculations showed that the bond charge of the orthosubstituted chlorine declined from-0.179 to-0.067,and that of meta-substituted chlorine increased from-0.111 to-0.129,which indicated that the spontaneous electric field of tourmaline affected the charge distribution of 2,3-DCP and was more co.ducive to the generation of ***,tourmaline with the spontaneous electric field affected the reductive dechlorination pathway of Desulfitobacterium,and the tourmaline-OHRB co.bining system might serve as a novel strategy for the bioremediation of environments polluted with chlorinated phenols.

Numerical study of the influence of the atmospheric pressure on the thermal environment in the passenger cabin

The cabin air pressure remains lower than the horizontal atmospheric pressure when the airplane is in *** pressure is one of the parameters that must be taken into co.sideration while studying the thermal environment of an airplane *** are still no reference values for aircraft cabins despite the fact that numerous studies on low pressure heat transfer have demonstrated the co.nection between co.vective heat transfer co.fficient(CHTC)and air *** this paper,a co.rection method for CHTC under low pressure co.ditions was established by using the dummy heat dissipation in the low-pressure cabin *** this basis,a thermal environment simulation model was developed,then was applied to the simulation of a seven-row aircraft cabin co.taining 42 passengers,and the CHTC and heat loss of dummy surface in the cabin were ***,the results of PMV calculated by using heat dissipation and air parameters at sampling points were *** results show that the modified CHTC can accurately reflect the cabin thermal environment under low pressure co.ditions,and the co.rection of CHTC can be realized by adjusting the turbulent Prandtl number,which is nonlinear co.related with the *** simulation results of the thermal environment in the seven-row cabin show that the CHTC changes by about 42%before and after *** air pressure decreases during take-off,which reduces the average CHTC of the crew surface from 5.09 W/(m^(2)·K)to 4.56 W/(m^(2)·K),but the air temperature rises by about 0.2°C as a *** deviation of PMV results calculated by using simulated heat loss data and using air parameters of measuring points in space is up to 0.5,but the latter is representative for calculating the thermal co.fort level of the whole cabin.

Municipal solid waste(MSW)is an important destination for abandoned *** the waste disposal process,large plastic debris is broken down into microplastics(MPs)and released into the ***,current research only focuses on landfill leachates,and the occurrence of MPs in other leachates has not been ***,herein,the abundance and characteristics of MPs in three types of leachates,namely,landfill leachate,residual waste leachate,and household food waste leachate,were studied,all leachates were co.lected from the largest waste disposal center in *** results showed that the average MP abundances in the different types of leachates ranged from(129±54)to(1288±184)MP particles per liter(particlesL1)and the household food waste leachate exhibited the highest MP abundance(pco.ditional fragmentation model indicated that the landfilling process co.siderably affected the size distribution of MPs in leachates,leading to a higher percentage(>80%)of small MPs(20–100 lm)in landfill leachates co.pared to other *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first study discussing the sources of MPs in different leachates,which is important for MP pollution co.trol during MSW disposal.

Synergy of sodium doping and nitrogen defects in carbon nitride for promoted photocatalytic synthesis of hydrogen peroxide

Photocatalytic synthesis of hydrogen peroxide has gradually beco.e a promising method for in-situ pro-duction of hydrogen peroxide,which relies on sustainable solar ***,the co.monly used photocatalyst,i.e.,carbon nitride(CN),still suffers from the drawbacks of narrow light absorption range and fast charge ***,we report a facile method to introduce nitrogen defects into carbon nitride together with sodium *** adjusting the ratio of sodium dicyandiamide,the band gap of carbon nitride can be co.trolled,while the carrier separation and transfer ability of carbon nitride is *** modified CN with sodium doping and nitrogen defect(SD-CN)demonstrates outstanding H_(2)O_(2)pro-duction performance(H_(2)O_(2)yield rate of 297.2μmol L^(−1)h^(−1))under visible light irradiation,which is approximately 9.8 times higher than that of pristine *** work deepens the understanding of the co.rdinated effect of structural defect and element doping of carbon nitride on the photocatalytic H_(2)O_(2)production performance,and provides new insight into the design of photocatalytic system for efficient production of H_(2)O_(2).

Seismic responses of an intensively co.structed metro station-passageway-shaft structure system

Intensive co.struction methods offer benefits for metro station development,yet they present challenges for seismic design due to the spatially asymmetric co.figuration of passageway-shaft *** this study,a detailed numerical model of a station-passageway-shaft structure system built using intensive co.struction methods was developed and the deformation and damage modes under seismic loadings were *** results indicate that inco.sistent deformation between the shaft and the station generates interaction through the co.necting passageway,leading to damage near the opening of the station structure and both ends of the co.necting passageway Damage is more severe under longitudinal *** with the opening plan that spans four segments,the opening plan that spans five segments exacerbates the overall degree of damage to the structure *** transverse excitation,the presence of interior structures intensifies the damage to the station and co.necting passageway,while with such internal structure in place the impact is relatively minor under longitudinal *** with steel segments near the station opening can appreciably attenuate the *** co.trast,introducing flexible joints at both ends of the co.necting passageway intensifies the ***,reinforcement using steel segments emerges as an optimal seismic mitigation strategy.

Exhaust hood performance and its improvement technologies in industrial buildings:A literatu rereview

The pollutant co.trol performance of exhaust hoods plays a crucial role in the indoor air quality and energy co.sumption of ventilation systems in industrial *** better understand the impact of local ventilation on the industrial indoor environment,this paper presents a literature review of exhaust hood performance and its improvement *** create an index for evaluating the performance of exhaust hoods,the capture velocity,capture efficiency,flow ratio of pollutant emissions and exhaust airflow and energy co.sumption are first introduced.A number of factors affecting exhaust hood performance are assessed such as hood type,hood opening size,exhaust rate,installation distance,pollution source emission and environmental *** to structural improvement methods,the use of active airflow is a more effective way to improve the exhaust hood *** most co.monly used methods for determining the exhaust rate are the co.trolled speed method and the flow ratio *** use of an exhaust hood with an appropriate exhaust rate and jet parameters(for an active air-assisted hood)can effectively improve the pollutant co.trol performance and reduce the energy co.sumption that would be wasted on the redundant exhaust *** more information focused on exhaust hood performance,this work suggests more effective strategies for improving indoor air quality and reducing energy co.sumption in industrial buildings.
