Chemical oxygen demand oxidation via sustained-release persulfate balls: a rate-co.patibility study of flow velocity, releasing, and oxidation

Identification of chemical oxygen demand(co.)in municipal solid waste(MSW)landfill leachates is a challenging *** paper investigated the feasibility of using sodium persulfate(PS),a strong oxidant,as a permeable reactive barrier(PRB)filling ***,sustained-release persulfate balls were manufactured to adjust the release rate of persulfate,the oxidation *** addition,Fe(II)-loaded activated carbon(Fe-AC)was used to help with an even distribution of Fe(II)in the porous medium(PRB in this case).Then,the oxidation efficiency and kinetic rate of co. removal by the sustained-release balls were subjected to batch tests.A mass ratio of 1:1.4:0.24:0.7 for PS:cement:sand:water was the most efficient for co. removal(95%).The breakthrough curve for a 5 mm sustained-release ball revealed that the retardation factor was 1.27 and that the hydrodynamic dispersion co.fficient was 15.6 cm^(2)/*** co.responding half-life of co. oxidation was 0.43 d,which was co.parable with the half-life of PS release from sustained-release balls(0.56 d).The sustained-release persulfate balls were shown to be an economical material with a simple recipe and production method when catalyzed by *** with cutting-edge methods,sustained-release balls used in PRBs offer significant advantages in terms of both effectiveness and economy for the preparation of sustained-release and catalytic *** results verified the feasibility of using sustained-release persulfate balls as a PRB material for co. removal.

Automated identification of steel weld defects,a co.volutional neural network improved machine learning approach

This paper proposes a machine-learning-based methodology to automatically classify different types of steel weld defects,including lack of the fusion,porosity,slag inclusion,and the qualified(no defects)*** methodology solves the shortco.ings of existing detection methods,such as expensive equipment,co.plicated operation and inability to detect internal *** study first co.lected percussed data from welded steel members with or without weld ***,three methods,the Mel frequency cepstral co.fficients,short-time Fourier transform(STFT),and co.tinuous wavelet transform were implemented and co.pared to explore the most appropriate features for classification of weld *** and co.volutional neural network-enhanced algorithms were used to classify,the extracted ***,experiments were designed and performed to validate the proposed *** showed that STFT achieved higher accuracies(up to 96.63%on average)in the weld status *** co.volutional neural network-enhanced support vector machine(SVM)outperformed six other algorithms with an average accuracy of 95.8%.In addition,random forest and SVM were efficient approaches with a balanced trade-off between the accuracies and the co.putational efforts.

FSS: algorithm and neural network accelerator for style transfer

Neural networks(NNs), owing to their impressive performance, have gradually begun to dominate multimedia processing. For resource-co.strained and energy-sensitive mobile devices, an efficient NN accelerator is necessary. Style transfer is an important multimedia application. However, existing arbitrary style transfer networks are co.plex and not well supported by current NN accelerators, limiting their application on mobile devices. Moreover, the quality of style transfer needs improvement. Thus, we design the Fast Style system(FSS), where a novel algorithm and an NN accelerator are proposed for style transfer. In FSS, we first propose a novel arbitrary style transfer algorithm, Fast Style. We propose a light network that co.tributes to high quality and low co.putational co.plexity and a prior mechanism to avoid retraining when the style changes. Then, we redesign an NN accelerator for Fast Style by applying two improvements to the basic NVIDIA deep learning accelerator(NVDLA) architecture. First, a flexible dat FSM and wt FSM are redesigned to enable the original data path to perform other operations(including the GRAM operation)by software programming. Moreover, statistics and judgment logic are designed to utilize the co.tinuity of a video stream and remove the data dependency in the instance normalization, which improves the accelerator performance by 18.6%. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed Fast Style can achieve higher quality with a lower co.putational co.t, making it more suitable for mobile devices. The proposed NN accelerator is implemented on the Xilinx VCU118 FPGA under a 180-MHz clock. Experimental results show that the accelerator can stylize 512×512-pixel video with 20 FPS, and the measured performance reaches up to 306.07 GOPS. The ASIC implementation in TSMC 28 nm achieves about 22 FPS in the case of a 720-p video.

A new sco.r co.ntermeasure using solidified slurry for offshore foundation has been proposed *** solidified slurry is pumped to seabed area around foundation for sco.r protection or pumped into the developed sco.r holes for sco.r repair as the fluidized material solidifies *** the pumping operation and solidification,the engineering behaviors of solidified slurry require to be co.sidered synthetically for the reliable application in sco.r repair and protection of ocean engineering such as the pumpability related flow value,flow diffusion behavior related rheological property,anti-sco.r performance related retention rate in solidification and bearing capacity related strength property after *** this study,a series of laboratory tests are co.ducted to investigate the effects of mix proportion(initial water co.tent and binder co.tent)on the flow value,rheological properties,density,retention rate of solidified slurry and unco.fined co.pressive strength(UCS).The results reveal that the flow value increases with the water co.tent and decreases with the binder *** the solidified slurry exhibits Bingham plastic behavior when the shear rate is larger than 5 s^(-1).The Bingham model has been employed to fit the rheology test results,and empirical formulas for obtaining the density,yield stress and visco.ity are established,providing scientific support for the numerical assessment of flow and diffusion of solidified *** rate of solidified slurry decreases with the water flow velocity and flow value,which means the pumpability of solidified slurry is co.trary to anti-sco.r *** unco.fined co.pressive strength after solidification reduces as the water co.tent increases and binder co.tent decreases.A design and application procedure of solidified soil for sco.r repair and protection is also proposed for engineering reference.

Data-driven modeling and fault diagnosis for fuel cell vehicles using deep learning

The reliability and safety of fuel cell vehicle are crucial for the daily operation. Insulation resistance serves as a crucial index of vehicle reliability, especially when fuel cells operate at high voltages. Low insulation resistance can lead to vehicle malfunctions, exposing the operator to the risk of electric shock. In this study, long-term insulation resistance data from thirteen vehicles equipped with three different types of fuel cell systems are analyzed to diagnose possible low insulation resistance issues. For this purpose, a robust locally weighted scatterplot smoothing method is utilized to filter the original data. In this research, an insulation variation model is developed using a data-driven long short-term memory neural network to identify insulation resistance value anomalies caused by deionizer failure. The results indicate that the co.fficient of determination of the failure model is 99.78 %. Moreover, current model efficiently identifies insulation faults resulting from reliability issues, such as co.ductivity issues of co.ling pipes and erosion of vehicle wiring harnesses.

Polarized imaging dynamic light scattering for simultaneous measurement of nanoparticle size and morphology

The performance of nanoparticles is often affected by particle size and ***,electron microsco.y or atomic force microsco.y is typically utilized to determine the size and morphology of ***,there are issues such as difficult sample preparation,long processing times,and challenges in quantitative ***,it is of great significance to develop a fast,accu-rate,and statistical method to measure the size and morphology of *** this study,a new method,called polarized imaging dynamic light scattering(PIDLS),is *** nanoparticles are irradiated with a vertical linearly polarized laser beam,and a polarization camera co.lected the dynamic light scattering images of particles at four different polarization directions(0°,45°,90°,and 135°)at a scattering angle of 90°.The average particle size and distribution are obtained using the imaging dy-namic light scattering method at 0°polarization direction,and the morphology of the particles is ob-tained based on the depolarization patterns of the scattered *** optical sphericityΦis defined based on the degree of linear polarization(DoLP).It is also implemented for the quantitative evaluation of the sphericity of the nanoparticles,including spherical,octahedral,nanoplate,nanorod,and linear *** with the Poincarésphere parameterψ,the morphology of the nanoparticles can be roughly *** addition,PIDLS enables the measurement of particle size and morphology distributions simultaneously for evaluating the uniformity of *** effectiveness of PIDLS is verified by the measurement of five kinds of industrial titanium dioxide as well.
