Preliminary Evaluation of Hemodynamic Effects of Fontan Palliation on Renal Artery Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Background:The assessment of renal function is important to the prognosis of patients needing Fontan palliation due to the reconstructed compromised *** know the relationship between the kidney perfusion and hemodynamic characteristics during surgical design could reduce the risk of acute kidney injury(AKI)and the postoperative ***,the issue is still unsolved because the current clinical evaluation methods are unable to predict the hemodynamic changes in renal artery(RA).Methods:We reconstructed a three-dimensional(3D)vascular model of a patient requiring Fontan *** technique of computational fluid dynamics(CFD)was utilized to explore the changes of RA hemodynamics under different possible blood flow *** relationship between the kidney perfusion and hemodynamic characteristics was ***:The calculated results indicated the declined tendency of the pressure and pressure drop as the flow rate *** the flow rate decreased to two-thirds of its baseline,both the pressure of left renal artery(LRA)and the pressure of right renal artery(RRA)dipped below 50%,and the pressure of RRA fell more quickly than that of *** distribution of WSS was observed on the trunk of RA,and the lowest WSS was found at the distal of *** average WSS in RA dropped to around 50%as the flow rate reached one-third of its ***:As a promising approach,CFD can be utilized to quantitatively evaluate the hemodynamic characteristics of RA and contribute to offsetting the drawbacks of clinical assessments of renal function,to help realize better prognosis for the patients with Fontan palliation.

Physical-barrier detection based collective motion analysis

Collective motion is one of the most fascinating phenomena and mainly caused by the interactions between individuals. Physical-barriers, as the particular facilities which divide the crowd into different lanes, greatly affect the measurement of such interactions. In this paper we propose the physical-barrier detection based collective motion analysis (PDCMA) approach. The main idea is that the interaction between spatially adjacent pedestrians actually does not exist if they are separated by the physical-barrier. Firstly, the physical-barriers are extracted by two-stage clustering. The scene is automatically divided into several motion regions. Secondly, local region collectiveness is calculated to represent the interactions between pedestrians in each region. Finally, extensive evaluations use the three typical methods, i.e., the PDCMA, the Collectiveness, and the average normalized Velocity, to show the efficiency and efficacy of our approach in the scenes with and without physical barriers. Moreover, several escalator scenes are selected as the typical physical-barrier test scenes to demonstrate the performance of our approach. Compared with the current collective motion analysis methods, our approach better adapts to the scenes with physical barriers.

Development of a plastic injection molding training system using Petri nets and virtual reality

In this study, virtual reality (VR)-based plastic injection molding training system (VPIMTS), which can be modeled as an integrated system with a task planning module, an intelligent instruction module, a simulation module, and virtual envi-ronment (VE) module, was developed. Presented in this paper are an architecture of VPIMTS, a practical knowledge modelling approach for modelling the training scenarios of the system by using Petri nets formalism and key techniques (FEM, injection molding procedure modelling) which have been developed independently. The utilization of the Petri net model realized the environment where the trainee can behave freely, and also made it possible to equip the system with the function of showing the next action of the trainee whenever he wants. The overall system is a powerful approach for highly improving the trainee’s comprehension and injection molding study-efficiency by building digital, intelligent, knowledgeable, and visual aids.

Background:Although clozapine is an effective option for treatment-resistant schizophrenia(TRS),there are still 1/3 to 1/2 of TRS patients who do not respond to *** main purpose of this randomized,double-blind,placebocontrolled trial was to explore the amisulpride augmentation efficacy on the psychopathological symptoms and cognitive function of clozapine-resistant treatment-refractory schizophrenia(CTRS)***:A total of 80 patients were recruited and randomly assigned to receive initial clozapine plus amisulpride(amisulpride group)or clozapine plus placebo(placebo group).Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS),Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms(SANS),Clinical Global Impression(CGI)scale scores,Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status(RBANS),Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS),laboratory measurements,and electrocardiograms(ECG)were performed at baseline,week 6,and week ***:Compared with the placebo group,amisulpride group had a lower PANSS total score,positive subscore,and general psychopathology subscore at week 6 and week 12(PBonferroni<0.01).Furthermore,compared with the placebo group,the amisulpride group showed an improved RBANS language score at week 12(PBonferroni<0.001).Amisulpride group had a higher treatment response rate(P=0.04),lower scores of CGI severity and CGI efficacy at week 6 and week 12 than placebo group(PBonferroni<0.05).There were no differences between the groups in body mass index(BMI),corrected QT(QTc)intervals,and laboratory *** study demonstrates that amisulpride augmentation therapy can safely improve the psychiatric symptoms and cognitive performance of CTRS patients.

To improve the accuracy and interactivity of soft tissue delormatlon simulation, a new plate spring model based on physics is proposed. The model is parameterized and thus can be adapted to simulate different organs. Different soft tissues are modeled by changing the width, number of pieces, thickness, and length of a single plate spring. In this paper, the structural design, calcula- tion of soft tissue deformation and real-time feedback operations of our system are also introduced. To evaluate the feasibility of the system and validate the model, an experimental system of haptic in- teraction, in which users can use virtual hands to pull virtual brain tissues, is built using PHANTOM OMNI devices. Experimental results show that the proposed system is stable, accurate and promising for modeling instantaneous soft tissue deformation.
