Luminescence quench is common in overdoped upconversion *** methods have been proposed to counteract the adverse effects of concentration quenching on luminescence,but in upconversion nanoparticles that are highly doped with both sensitizers and activators,the factors that contribute to the diminishing of the emission cannot be summarized by a single ***,a core-shell design is used to spatially separate the sensitizer(Yb^(3+))and activator(Er^(3+))and to modulate the emission by changes in the distribution position as well as the concentration of the dopant ions in order to probe the factors affecting the *** the sensitizer ions are located in the core,the luminescence intensity of the nanoparticles is significantly weaker than that of the other distribution,which implies that the effect of sensitizer and activator on luminescence in the highly doped state has a different and more complex *** intensity of the emission is more affected by Yb^(3+)than Er^(3+),which includes not only the self-quenching of Yb^(3+),but also the dominance in the Yb^(3+)-Er^(3+)*** this finding may provide new ideas for revealing the reasons for the diminished luminescence of highly doped upconversion nanoparticles and thus for enhancing luminescence.

This paper proposes a machine-learning-based methodology to automatically classify different types of steel weld defects,including lack of the fusion,porosity,slag inclusion,and the qualified(no defects)*** methodology solves the shortcomings of existing detection methods,such as expensive equipment,complicated operation and inability to detect internal *** study first collected percussed data from welded steel members with or without weld ***,three methods,the Mel frequency cepstral coefficients,short-time Fourier transform(STFT),and continuous wavelet transform were implemented and compared to explore the most appropriate features for classification of weld *** and convolutional neural network-enhanced algorithms were used to classify,the extracted ***,experiments were designed and performed to validate the proposed *** showed that STFT achieved higher accuracies(up to 96.63%on average)in the weld status *** convolutional neural network-enhanced support vector machine(SVM)outperformed six other algorithms with an average accuracy of 95.8%.In addition,random forest and SVM were efficient approaches with a balanced trade-off between the accuracies and the computational efforts.

Ultrahigh-brightness 50 MeV electron beam generation from laser wakefield acceleration in a weakly nonlinear regime

We propose an efficient scheme to produce ultrahigh-brightness tens of MeV electron beams by designing a density-tailored plasma to induce a wakefield in the weakly nonlinear regime with a moderate laser energy of 120 *** this scheme,the second bucket of the wakefield can have a much lower phase velocity at the steep plasma density down-ramp than the first bucket and can be exploited to implement longitudinal electron injection at a lower laser intensity,leading to the generation of bright electron beams with ultralow emittance together with low energy ***-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations are carried out and demonstrate that high-quality electron beams with a peak energy of 50 MeV,ultralow emittance of28 nm rad,energy spread of 1%,charge of 4.4 pC,and short duration less than 5 fs can be obtained within a 1-mm-long tailored plasma density,resulting in an ultrahigh six-dimensional brightness B6D,n of2×1017 A/m2/0.1%.By changing the density parameters,tunable bright electron beams with peak energies ranging from 5 to 70 MeV,a small emittance of B0.1 mm mrad,and a low energy spread at a few-percent level can be *** bright MeV-class electron beams have a variety of potential applications,for example,as ultrafast electron probes for diffraction and imaging,in laboratory astrophysics,in coherent radiation source generation,and as injectors for GeV particle accelerators.

This paper studies the(2+1)-dimensional Hirota-Satsuma-Ito *** on an associated Hirota bilinear form,lump-type solution,two types of interaction solutions,and breather wave solution of the(2+1)-dimensional Hirota-Satsuma-Ito equation are obtained,which are all related to the seed solution of the *** is interesting that the rogue wave is aroused by the interaction between one-lump soliton and a pair of resonance stripe solitons,and the fusion and fission phenomena are also found in the interaction between lump solitons and one-stripe ***,the breather wave solution is also obtained by reducing the two-soliton *** trajectory and period of the one-order breather wave are *** corresponding dynamical characteristics are demonstrated by the graphs.

This paper mainly introduces the parallel physics-informed neural networks(PPINNs)method with regularization strategies to solve the data-driven forward-inverse problems of the variable coefficient modified Korteweg-de Vries(VC-MKdV)*** the forward problem of the VC-MKdV equation,the authors use the traditional PINN method to obtain satisfactory data-driven soliton solutions and provide a detailed analysis of the impact of network width and depth on solving accuracy and ***,the author finds that the traditional PINN method outperforms the one with locally adaptive activation functions in solving the data-driven forward problems of the VC-MKdV *** for the data-driven inverse problem of the VC-MKdV equation,the author introduces a parallel neural networks to separately train the solution function and coefficient function,successfully addressing the function discovery problem of the VC-MKdV *** further enhance the network’s generalization ability and noise robustness,the author incorporates two regularization strategies into the *** amount of numerical experimental data in this paper demonstrates that the PPINNs method can effectively address the function discovery problem of the VC-MKdV equation,and the inclusion of appropriate regularization strategies in the PPINNs can improves its performance.

Edge detection for low-contrast phase objects cannot be performed directly by the spatial difference of intensity *** this work,an all-optical diffractive neural network(DPENet)based on the differential interference contrast principle to detect the edges of phase objects in an all-optical manner is *** information is encoded into an interference light field by dual Wollaston prisms without lenses and light-speed processed by the diffractive neural network to obtain the scale-adjustable *** results show that DPENet achieves F-scores of 0.9308(MNIST)and 0.9352(NIST)and enables real-time edge detection of biological cells,achieving an F-score of 0.7462.

Parallel continuum robots(PCRs) have attracted increasing attention in the robotics community due to their simplicity in structure,inherence with compliance, and easiness of realization. Over the past decade, a variety of novel designs have been reported to enrich their diversity. However, there is a lack of systematic review of these emerging robots. To this end, this paper conducts a comprehensive survey on the mechanism design, kinetostatic modeling and analysis, and performance evaluation. For these robots, kinetostatic modeling plays a fundamental role throughout the design, analysis, and control stages. A systematic review of the existing approaches for kinetostatic modeling and analysis is provided, and a comparison is made to distinguish their differences. As well, a classification is made according to the characteristics of structure and actuation. In addition, performance evaluation on the workspace, stability, and singularity is also overviewed. Finally, the scenarios of potential applications are elaborated, and future research prospects are discussed. We believe that the information provided in this paper will be particularly useful for those who are interested in PCRs.

While databases are widely-used in commercial user-facing services that have stringent quality-of-service(QoS)requirement,it is crucial to ensure their good performance and minimize the hardware usage at the same *** investigation shows that the optimal DBMS(database management system)software configuration varies for different user request patterns(i.e.,workloads)and hardware *** is challenging to identify the optimal software and hardware configurations for a database workload,because DBMSs have hundreds of tunable knobs,the effect of tuning a knob depends on other knobs,and the dependency relationship changes under different hardware *** this paper,we propose SHA,a software and hardware auto-tuning system for *** is comprised of a scaling-based performance predictor,a reinforcement learning(RL)based software tuner,and a QoS-aware resource *** performance predictor predicts its optimal performance with different hardware configurations and identifies the minimum amount of resources for satisfying its performance *** software tuner fine-tunes the DBMS software knobs to optimize the performance of the *** resource reallocator assigns the saved resources to other applications to improve resource utilization without incurring QoS violation of the database *** results show that SHA improves the performance of database workloads by 9.9%on average compared with a state-of-the-art solution when the hardware configuration is fixed,and improves 43.2%of resource utilization while ensuring the QoS.

Characteristics of Particulate Matter Emissions for Low-Sulfur Heavy Oil Used in Low-Speed Two-Stroke Diesel Engines of Ocean-Going Ships

In this work,particulate matter(PM) emissions from a large two-stroke,low-speed marine diesel engine were investigated when the engine was operated with low-sulfur heavy fuel oil(HFO) at various *** samples were collected in situ from the engine exhaust to determine the detailed physical and chemical *** nanostructure and morphology of the nanoparticles were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy images(TEM).The results show that volatile organic carbon(OC) accounts for more than 80% in the HFO particles and leads to an increase in particle *** thermodynamic conditions of a low-speed engine favor the behavior of capturing the soluble organic components.A large number of spherical char HFO particles with aerodynamic diameters of 0.2 μm-0.5 μm and a suspected inner metal core were *** two peak aerodynamic diameters of the HFO nanoparticles are 15 nm and 86 *** morphological differences among the HFO nanoparticles in varied engine conditions represent the formation process from primary nascent particles to mature graphitized particles caused by *** above study will be valuable for understanding the characteristics of PM emissions from low-sulfur HFO to achieve the ship PM emissions reduction target.

Cyber-physical systems(CPSs)take on the characteristics of both multiple rates of information collection and processing and the dependency on information *** purpose of this paper is to develop a joint recursive filtering scheme that estimates both unknown inputs and system states for multi-rate CPSs with unknown *** cyberspace,the information transmission between the local joint filter and the sensors is governed by an adaptive event-triggered ***,the desired parameters of joint filters are determined by a set of algebraic matrix equations in a recursive way,and a sufficient condition verifying the boundedness of filtering error covariance is found by resorting to some algebraic operation.A state fusion estimation scheme that uses local state estimation is proposed based on the covariance intersection(CI)based fusion ***,an illustrative example demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive event-triggered recursive filtering algorithm.
