Latent fingerprints(LFPs)at the crime scene are served as important clues to locate the trajectory of criminal behavior and portray the characteristics of the suspect.Therefore,visualizing LFPs is of considerable significance.In this work,the europium metal-organic framework(Eu-MOF)sensor was successfully constructed for sensitive detection of gallic acid(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid,GA)and visualization of the sweat LFPs.The boric-acid-modified Eu-MOF was prepared by using the simple one-pot solvothermal method using Eu as the metal i ion center and 3,5-dicarboxybenzeneboronic acid(BBDC)as the organic ligand.The sensor showed desirable photoluminescent performance through the chelating of BBDC with Eu3+.The sensor exhibited the satisfactory linear relationship to GA in the range of 1 nM to 20 nM with a low detection limit of 0.34 nM under the optimized conditions.The prepared sensor with ideal selectivity to GA was successfully applied for visualizing LFPs on porous substrates with the high contrast and superior stability.Given the good performance of the sensor,all fingerprint images obtained from 1200 samples presented clear friction ridges and met the identification criteria.Notably,the sensor had less impact on the subsequent deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)detection,displaying a promising perspective for applications in extracting physical evidence of site investigation.

The major vascular complications associated with diabetes make the management of diabetic mellitus erectile dysfunction(DMED)a challenging endeavor.Notable factors contributing to DMED include oxidative stress,nitric oxide(NO)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate(cGMP)pathway activation,and apoptosis,while nitro-oleic acid(NO,-OA)has been shown to be beneficial in treating these aspects of this condition.We,herein,investigated the effects and possible mechanisms of NO,-OA on erectile function as assessed in a streptozotocin-induced rat model of diabetes.Our results revealed that the erectile function of DMED rats was significantly impaired compared with that of the control group.However,in response to 4 weeks of NO,-OA treatment,there was an improvement in erectile function.The expression of oxidative stress-related indicators was significantly increased and the NO/cGMP pathway was impaired in the DMED group.The expression of proapoptotic factors was increased,while that of antiapoptotic factors was decreased in the DMED group.Moreover,the cell morphology in the cavernous tissue of the DMED group also changed adversely.NO,-OA treatment significantly reversed all these changes observed in the DMED group.In conclusion,NO,-OA treatment partially improved erectile function in DMED rats through mechanisms that included inhibition of oxidative stress,activation of the NO/cGMP pathway,and a reduction in apoptosis.

Depression is a common mental health disorder.With current depression detection methods,specialized physicians often engage in conversations and physiological examinations based on standardized scales as auxiliary measures for depression assessment.Non-biological markers-typically classified as verbal or non-verbal and deemed crucial evaluation criteria for depression-have not been effectively utilized.Specialized physicians usually require extensive training and experience to capture changes in these features.Advancements in deep learning technology have provided technical support for capturing non-biological markers.Several researchers have proposed automatic depression estimation(ADE)systems based on sounds and videos to assist physicians in capturing these features and conducting depression screening.This article summarizes commonly used public datasets and recent research on audio-and video-based ADE based on three perspectives:Datasets,deficiencies in existing research,and future development directions.

To the Editor:It has been eighteen years since telocytes(TCs)were first categorized by Popescu et al^([1])in 2005.TCs were classified into interstitial cells of the Cajal(ICC)type based on their ultrastructure and immunohistochemical features,which are similar to mesenchymal cells.^([2])In the following ten years,TCs were found to have their own distinctive characteristics in terms of three-dimensional structure,immunological biomarkers,genomics,and multiple functions.Interestingly,TCs are definitely distinct from fibroblasts,mesenchymal stem cells,and endothelial cells in multiple organs of human beings and animals.^([3])

Gastric cancer(GC)is one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide.Early detection offers the best chance for curative treatment and reducing its mortality.However,the optimal population-based early screening for GC remains unmet.Aberrant DNA methylation occurs in the early stage of GC,exhibiting cancer-specific genetic and epigenetic changes,and can be detected in the media such as blood,gastric juice,and feces,constituting a valuable biomarker for cancer early detection.Furthermore,DNA methylation is a stable epigenetic alteration,and many innovative methods have been developed to quantify it rapidly and accurately.Nonetheless,large-scale clinical validation of DNA methylation serving as tumor biomarkers is still lacking,precluding their implementation in clinical practice.In conclusion,after a critical analysis of the recent existing literature,we summarized the evolving roles of DNA methylation during GC occurrence,expounded the newly discovered noninvasive DNA methylation biomarkers for early detection of GC,and discussed its challenges and prospects in clinical applications.

BACKGROUND Hemorrhage associated with varices at the site of choledochojejunostomy is an unusual,difficult to treat,and often fatal manifestation of portal hypertension.So far,no treatment guidelines have been established.CASE SUMMARY We reported three patients with jejunal varices at the site of choledochojejun-ostomy managed by endoscopic sclerotherapy with lauromacrogol/α-butyl cyanoacrylate injection at our institution between June 2021 and August 2023.We reviewed all patient records,clinical presentation,endoscopic findings and treatment,outcomes and follow-up.Three patients who underwent pancre-aticoduodenectomy with a Whipple anastomosis were examined using conven-tional upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for suspected hemorrhage from the afferent jejunal loop.Varices with stigmata of recent hemorrhage or active he-morrhage were observed around the choledochojejunostomy site in all three patients.Endoscopic injection of lauromacrogol/α-butyl cyanoacrylate was carried out at jejunal varices for all three patients.The bleeding ceased and patency was observed for 26 and 2 months in two patients.In one patient with multiorgan failure and internal environment disturbance,rebleeding occurred 1 month after endoscopic sclerotherapy,and despite a second endoscopic sclero-therapy,repeated episodes of bleeding and multiorgan failure resulted in eventual death.CONCLUSION We conclude that endoscopic sclerotherapy with lauromacrogol/α-butyl cyanoac-rylate injection can be an easy,effective,safe and low-cost treatment option for jejunal varicose bleeding at the site of choledochojejunostomy.

The notorious dendrite and infinite volume change seriously restrict the advancement of lithium metal anodes(LMAs),during the long-term process of stripping/plating.Herein,the nanosheets of metal fluoride(CoF_(2))and metal nitride(CoN)with magnificent lithiophilicity on the nickel(Ni)foam are designed as the“regulator”to uniform the Li plating and build stronger solid electrolyte interface(SEI)layer for dendrite free LMAs.The Ni foam offers abundant space to receive deposited Li metal.The CoN nanosheets can guarantee the fast transfer of electrons,which provides a stable interface of Li^(+)reduction.Moreover,the nanosheet structure with lithiophilicity would accelerate the move of Li+and decrease the nucleation barrier,due to the high lattice-matching of Li and CoN.Meanwhile,the CoF_(2) could increase the content of F(LiF)in the SEI layer,which enhances the strength and avoids the destruction of SEI layer.With the cooperation of CoN and CoF_(2),the composited anode(Li/NF@CNCF)exhibits ultra-long cycle performance(more than 1200 h)and fantastic structure stability at 1 mA·cm^(-2) with 1 mAh·cm^(-2).Based on the LiFePO_(4) and Li/NF@CNCF,the full cells deliver excellent specifical capacity and steady coulombic efficiency.The strategy contributes an effective approach to alleviate the issues of lithium metal anodes in the field of LMAs.

Veterinary drugs are substances(including pharmaceutical feed additives)used to prevent,treat,and diagnose diseases or regulate the physiological functions of animals.Veterinary drug poisoning in humans is relatively rare both in China and the rest of the world.Here,we report a case of death from veterinary drug poisoning from avermectin-closantel.Avermectin-closantel is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug,which has high efficacy against a variety of trematodes and nematodes.

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC)is associated with high mortality rates.Bile acids(BAs)reflux is a well-known risk factor for GC,but the specific mechanism remains unclear.During GC development in both humans and animals,BAs serve as signaling molecules that induce metabolic reprogramming.This confers additional cancer phenotypes,including ferroptosis sensitivity.Ferroptosis is a novel mode of cell death characterized by lipid peroxidation that contributes universally to malignant progression.However,it is not fully defined if BAs can influence GC progression by modulating ferroptosis.AIM To reveal the mechanism of BAs regulation in ferroptosis of GC cells.METHODS In this study,we treated GC cells with various stimuli and evaluated the effect of BAs on the sensitivity to ferroptosis.We used gain and loss of function assays to examine the impacts of farnesoid X receptor(FXR)and BTB and CNC homology 1(BACH1)overexpression and knockdown to obtain further insights into the molecular mechanism involved.RESULTS Our data suggested that BAs could reverse erastin-induced ferroptosis in GC cells.This effect correlated with increased glutathione(GSH)concentrations,a reduced GSH to oxidized GSH ratio,and higher GSH peroxidase 4(GPX4)expression levels.Subsequently,we confirmed that BAs exerted these effects by activating FXR,which markedly increased the expression of GSH synthetase and GPX4.Notably,BACH1 was detected as an essential intermediate molecule in the promotion of GSH synthesis by BAs and FXR.Finally,our results suggested that FXR could significantly promote GC cell proliferation,which may be closely related to its anti-ferroptosis effect.CONCLUSION This study revealed for the first time that BAs could inhibit ferroptosis sensitivity through the FXR-BACH1-GSHGPX4 axis in GC cells.This work provided new insights into the mechanism associated with BA-mediated promotion of GC and may help identify potential therapeutic targets for GC patients with BAs reflux.

Objective Obesity is a global health concern with management strategies encompassing bariatric surgery and anti-obesity drugs;however,concerns regarding complexities and side effects persist,driving research for more effective,low-risk strategies.The promotion of white adipose tissue(WAT)browning has emerged as a promising approach.Moreover,alisol B 23-acetate(AB23A)has demonstrated efficacy in addressing metabolic disorders,suggesting its potential as a therapeutic agent in obesity management.Therefore,in this study,we aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of AB23A for mitigating obesity by regulating metabolic phenotypes and lipid distribution in mice fed a high-fat diet(HFD).Methods An obesity mouse model was established by administration of an HFD.Glucose and insulin metabolism were assessed via glucose and insulin tolerance tests.Adipocyte size was determined using hematoxylin and eosin staining.The expression of browning markers in WAT was evaluated using Western blotting and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.Metabolic cage monitoring involved the assessment of various parameters,including food and water intake,energy metabolism,respiratory exchange rates,and physical activity.Moreover,oil red O staining was used to evaluate intracellular lipid accumulation.A bioinformatic analysis tool for identifying the molecular mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine was used to examine AB23A targets and associated signaling pathways.Results AB23A administration significantly reduced the weight of obese mice,decreased the mass of inguinal WAT,epididymal WAT,and perirenal adipose tissue,improved glucose and insulin metabolism,and reduced adipocyte size.Moreover,treatment with AB23A promoted the expression of browning markers in WAT,enhanced overall energy metabolism in mice,and had no discernible effect on food intake,water consumption,or physical activity.In 3T3-L1 cells,AB23A inhibited lipid accumulation,and both AB23A and rapamycin inhibited the mammalian target of rapamycin-sterol regulato
