Characterization of contamination, source and degradation of petroleum between upland and paddy fields based on geochemical characteristics and phospholipid fatty acids

To evaluate contamination caused by petroleum, surface soil samples were collected from both upland and paddy fields along the irrigation canals in the Hunpu wastewater irrigation region in northeast China. N-alkanes, terpanes, steranes, and phospholipid fatty acids （PLFA） in the surface soil samples were analyzed. The aliphatic hydrocarbon concentration was highest in the samples obtained from the upland field near an operational oil well; it was lowest at I-3P where wastewater irrigation promoted the downward movement of hydrocarbons. The Hunpu region was found contaminated by heavy petroleum from oxic lacustrine fresh water or marine deltaic source rocks. Geochemical parameters also indicated significantly heavier contamination and degradation in the upland fields compared with the paddy fields. Principal component analysis based on PLFA showed various microbial communities between petroleum contaminated upland and paddy fields. Gram-negative bacteria indicated by 15：0, 3OH 12：0, and 16：1（9） were significantly higher in the paddy fields, whereas Gram-positive bacteria indicated by i16：0 and 18：1（9）c were significantly higher in the upland fields （p 〈 0.05）. These PLFAs were related to petroleum contamination. Poly-unsaturated PLFA （18：2ω6, 9; indicative of hydrocarbon- degrading bacteria and fungi） was also significantly elevated in the upland fields. This paper recommends more sensitive indicators of contamination and degradation of petroleum in soil. The results also provide guidelines on soil pollution control and remediation in the Hunpu region and other similar regions.

This study investigated the effects of salt(3%and 6%,m/m)and rice flour(10%and 20%,m/m)addition in sour meat,a traditional Chinese fermented *** was found that salt has greater effect than rice flour addition in spontaneous ***-salt groups had lower pH and higher titratable total *** the low-salt groups,the dominant genera were Lactobacillus and Lactococcus,whereas Staphylococcus,Weissella,and Tetragenococcus were dominant in the high-salt *** total free amino acids and essential amino acids,organic acids,hexanoic acid ethyl ester and octanoic acid ethyl ester were found in the low-salt *** RDA analysis revealed that Lactococcus was closely related to product quality,with the S3F10(3%salt and 10%rice f lour)group outperforming the others in the sensory ***,3%salt and 10%rice flour were considered more appropriate for the production of healthy and tasty fermented sour meats.

Estimation of Nonlinear Roll Damping by Analytical Approximation of Experimental Free-Decay Amplitudes

Damping is critical for the roll motion response of a ship in waves. A common method for the assessment of damping in a ship’s rolling motion is to perform a free-decay experiment in calm water. In this paper, we propose an approach for estimating nonlinear damping that involves a linear exponential analytical approximation of the experimental roll free-decay amplitudes, fol- lowed by parametric identification based on the asymptotic method. The restoring moment can be strongly nonlinear. To validate this method, we first analyzed numerically simulated roll free-decay data using rolling equations with two alternative parametric forms: linear-plus-quadratic and linear-plus-cubic damping. By doing so, we obtained accurate estimates of nonlinear damping coefficients, even for large initial roll amplitudes. Then, we applied the proposed method to real free-decay data obtained from a scale model of a bulk barrier, and found the simulated results to be in good agreement with the experimental data. Using only free-decay peak data, the proposed method can be used to estimate nonlinear roll-damping coefficients for conditions with a strongly nonlinear restoring moment and large initial roll amplitudes.

Neuronal nitric oxide synthase(nNOS)was the producer of nitric oxide(NO)which played important gas messenger molecules in biological *** also can take effect as immune regulation molecule in *** rockfish(Sebastes schlegelii)is an important economic fish which were widely farmed in East Asia ***,the pathogenic bacteria such as the Edwardsiella tarda and Vibrio anguillarum in seawater always brought serious obstacles to their healthy *** order to explore the expression pattern of n NOS gene under the pathogen stimulation and predict its immune function,the n NOS gene in black rockfish named Ssn NOS was *** was 3780 bp in length,located on chromosome 6,and contained 27 coding domain sequence(CDs).According to the phylogenetic analysis,the Ssn NOS showed closest relative to the counterpart gene of swamp eel(Monopterus albus).Meanwhile,analysis of Ssn NOS expression in various healthy tissues showed that Ssn NOS expression level was highest in healthy brain tissues,followed by intestinal *** addition,Ssn NOS showed significant expression changes in response to stimulation by two *** in gill,the expression of Ssn NOS after pathogenic stimulation increased *** Elisa analysis showed the Ssn NOS content in gills was much higher than that in other tissues at all time ***,the expression patterns of Ssn NOS in brain,intestine and kidney after stimulation by pathogens showed a distinct expression pattern which first down-regulated and then ***,the Ssn NOS may be an important signaling molecule for fish to respond rapidly in immune stimulation.

Groundwater chromate removal by autotrophic sulfur disproportionation

Chromate[Cr(VI)]contamination in groundwater is a global environmental *** elemental sulfur-based biotechnologies for Cr(VI)removal depend heavily on the synthesis of dissolved organic carbon to fuel heterotrophic Cr(VI)reduction,a bottleneck in the remediation *** we show an alternative approach by leveraging sulfur-disproportionating bacteria(SDB)inherent to groundwater ecosystems,offering a novel and efficient Cr(VI)removal *** implemented SDB within a sulfur-packed bed reactor for treating Cr(VI)-contaminated groundwater,achieving a notable removal rate of 6.19 mg L^(-1) h^(-1) under oligotrophic *** identified the chemical reduction of Cr(VI)via sulfide,produced through sulfur disproportionation,as a key mechanism,alongside microbial Cr(VI)reduction within the sulfur-based ***-centric metagenomic analysis revealed a symbiotic relationship among SDB,sulfur-oxidizing,and chromate-reducing bacteria within the reactor,suggesting that Cr(VI)detoxification by these microbial communities enhances the sulfurdisproportionation *** research highlights the significance of sulfur disproportionation in the cryptic sulfur cycle in Cr(VI)-contaminated groundwater and proposes its practical application in groundwater remediation efforts.

Overexpression and characterization of a thermostable β-agarase producing neoagarotetraose from a marine isolate Microbulbifer ***1

An agarase gene containing 1 302 bp was cloned from Microbulbifer sp. AG1. It encoded a mature protein of 413 amino acids plus a 20-residue signal peptide. The recombinant enzyme without the signal peptide was expressed and purified from Escherichia coli BL21(DE3). When agarose was used as a substrate, the optimal temperature and pH for the enzyme were 60℃ and 7.5, respectively. The recombinant agarase showed excellent thermostability with 67% and 19% of residual activities after incubation at 50℃ and 60℃ for 1 h, *** SDS, the recombinant agarase had a relatively good resistance against the detected inhibitors, detergents and urea denaturant. Thin layer chromatography analysis and enzyme assay using p-nitrophenyl-α/β-Dgalactopyranoside revealed that the recombinant agarase was a β-agarase that degraded agarose into neoagarotetraose as the main end product. The enzymatic hydrolysis products with different degree of polymerization exhibited the antioxidant activities.

Effects of droplet size and spray volume parameters on droplet deposition of wheat herbicide application by using UAV

With the characteristic of flexible and precise,unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)for low volume applications are increasing substantially and quickly around the ***,little attention has been paid to the study of wheat herbicides with UAV,especially the research on the spray volume and droplet size of the herbicide sprayed by *** objectives of this study were to compare the droplet deposition from a typical commercial UAV under four different spray volumes of 7.5 L/hm2,15.0 L/hm2,22.5 L/hm2,and 30.0 L/hm2 and three different volume median diameter(VMD)of 150μm,200μm,and 300μm during winter wheat weeding *** software was used to analyze droplet deposition parameters including the percentage of spray coverage and the number of droplets in various sampling *** test results showed that the droplet deposition waseffected by each factor *** the spray volume was 7.5 L/hm2,the effect of VMD on the percentage of spray coverage was not ***,these variation rules were changed to smaller droplets with greater coverage when the spray volume higher than 15.0 L/*** all treatments,the number of droplets increased with decreasing VMD or increasing spray *** maximum percentage of spray coverage and the number of droplets that were achieved under the VMD of 150μm and the spray volume of 30.0 L/hm2 were 12.8%and 40.0 droplets/cm2,*** variation coefficients of the percentage of spray coverage and the number of droplets were 29.0%-73.3%and 20.2%-54.1%,*** most uniform deposition was achieved under the spray volume of 15.0 L/hm2and the VMD of 150μ*** results revealed the effect of droplet size and spray volume parameters on droplet deposition,which was useful for guiding farmers on how to use UAVs for weeding in winter wheat fields.
