The Wangjiazhuang Cu(-Mo)deposit,located within the Zouping volcanic basin in western shandong Province,China,is unique in this area for having an economic value.In order to expound the metallogenetic characteristics of this porphyry-like hydrothermal deposit,a detailed fluid inclusion study has been conducted,employing the techniques of representative sampling,fluid inclusion petrography,microthermometry,Raman spectroscopy,LA-ICP-MS analysis of single fluid inclusions,as well as cathode fluorescence spectrometer analysis of host mineral quartz.The deposit contains mainly two types of orebodies,i.***.veinlet-dissemination-stockwork orebodies in the K-Si alteration zone and pegmatiticquartz sulfide veins above them.In addition,minor breccia ore occurs locally.Four types of fluid inclusions in the deposit and altered quartz monzonite are identified:L-type one-or two-phase aqueous inclusions,V-type vapor-rich inclusions with V/L ratios greater than 50%-90%,D-type multiphase fluid inclusions containing daughter minerals or solids and S-type silicate-bearing fluid inclusions containing mainly muscovite and biotite.Ore petrography and fluid inclusion study has revealed a three-stage mineralization process,driven by magmatic-hydrothermal fluid activity,as follows.Initially,a hydrothermal fluid,separated from the parent magma,infiltrated into the quartz monzonite,resulting in its extensive K-Si alteration,as indicated by silicate-bearing fluid inclusions trapped in altered quartz monzonite.This is followed by the early mineralization,the formation of quartz veinlets and dissemination-stockwork ores.During the main mineralization stage,due to the participation and mixing of meteoric groundwater with magmatic-sourced hydrothermal fluid,the cooling and phase separation caused deposition of metals from the hydrothermal fluids.As a result,the pegmatitic-quartz sulfide-vein ores formed.In the late mineralization stage,decreasing fluid salinity led to the formation of L-type aqueous inclusions and chalcopyrite-sulfosalt ore.Coexi

A synthesis of the Cretaceous wildfire record related to atmospheric oxygen levels?

The Cretaceous was a significant greenhouse period in Earth's history with higher atmospheric CO_(2) levels and temperatures than today. Although evidence of combustion has been widely described from the Cretaceous deposits, our understanding of the spatiotemporal diversification pattern and process of the Cretaceous wildfires is still limited. In this study, we comprehensively synthesize a total of 271 published Cretaceous wildfire occurrences based on the by-products of burning, including fossil charcoal, pyrogenic inertinite(fossil charcoal in coal), and pyrogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs). Spatially, the dataset shows a distinctive distribution of reported wildfire evidence characterized by high concentration in the middle latitudinal areas of the Northern Hemisphere(30°N-60°N) over the Cretaceous. Temporally, an overall increasing trend of the reported wildfire data from the Early Cretaceous to the Late Cretaceous is coincident with higher atmospheric O_(2) levels. However, the spatial and temporal patterns may result from many types of factors, such as taphonomy, preservation, and researcher biases, instead of a real picture of the Cretaceous wildfire evolution. To better understand the spatiotemporal diversification of the Cretaceous wildfire, more investigations on the record of wildfire occurrences during this period would be necessary in the future.

Genetic relationship between formation,accumulation and migration and dispersion of peat materials in Paleogene——Take the Qiongdongnan Basin as an example

Coal-type source rocks include both coal and terrigenous marine source rocks.By studying the distribution of secondary depressions,uplifts,as well as the characteristics of peat formation and accumulation in the northern marginal sea basin of the South China Sea,and combining them with coal formation characteristics observed in other basins,five genetic theories on the relationship between peat accumulation and dispersed organic matter accumulation are proposed.The northern marginal sea basin of the South China Sea is characterized by“disadvantageous coals formation and favorable terrigenous marine source rocks formation.”This paper provides a distribution map of coal seams and terrigenous marine source rocks in the Qiongdongnan Basin and determines their distribution patterns.Research shows that the migration of sedimentary facies in the basins and inner depressions led to the formation and migration of the peat accumulation centers.In addition,the vertical migration of the peat accumulation centers led to planar migration,which is actually a type of coupling relationship.Previous research results have revealed that the formation of coal-type source rock is multi-phased.The marginal sea basin is composed of several fault-depression basins,with each basin developing a second order of depression and uplift.There is no unified basin center or depositional center to be found.As a result,the concentration centers of coal-forming materials also vary greatly.Based on the distribution characteristics of coal-type source rocks in different basins within the marginal sea basins of the South China Sea,the research results have practical significance and provide guidance for exploring coal-type oil and gas reservoirs in this area.

Trace Elements of Multi-stage minerals and Titanite U-Pb Dating for the Gneisses from Liansan Island,Sulu UHPM Belt

Gneisses with anatectic characteristics from the Liansan island in the Sulu UHPM(ultra-high pressure metamorphic)belt were studied for petrography,titanite U-Pb dating and mineral geochemistry.Three origins of garnets are distinguished:metamorphic garnet,peritectic garnet and anatectic garnet,which are formed in the stages of peak metamorphism,retrograde anatexis and melt crystallization,respectively.The euhedral titanite has a high content of REE and high Th/U ratios,which is interpreted as indicating that it was newly-formed from an anatectic melt.The LA-ICP-MS titanite U-Pb dating yields 214-217 Ma ages for the titanite(melt)crystallization.The distribution of trace elements varies in response to the different host minerals at different stages.At the peak metamorphic stage,Y and HREE are mainly hosted by garnet,Ba and Rb by phengite,Sr,Nb,Ta,Pb,Th,U and LREE by allanite and Y,U and HREE by zircon.During partial melting,Y,Pb,Th,U and REE are released into the melt,which causes a dramatic decline of these element contents in the retrograde minerals.Finally,titanite absorbs most of the Nb,U,LREE and HREE from the melt.Therefore,the different stages of metamorphism have different mineral assemblages,which host different trace elements.

The Mesozoic intrusions of the Jiaodong Peninsula,eastern China,host giant gold deposits.Understanding the genesis of these deposits requires the determination of the source of the parental auriferous fluid and the timing of gold mineralization,which are strongly influenced by the cooling/uplift histories of the hosting intrusions.We performed an integrated U-Pb geochronology study on both zircon and apatite from four major magmatic episodes of the Jiaodong Peninsula.The zircon and apatite U-Pb ages are 156.9±1.2 and 137.2±2.4 Ma for the Linglong intrusion,129.9±1.0 and 125.0±3.8 Ma for the Qujia intrusion,119.5±0.7 and 117.2±1.8 Ma for the Liulinzhuang intrusion,118.6±1.0 and 111.6±1.6 Ma for the Nansu intrusion,respectively.The coupled zircon and apatite data of these granitoids indicate a slow cooling rate(11.9°C/Ma)in the Late Jurassic,and rapid uplift and cooling(35.8-29.2°C/Ma)in the Early Cretaceous.The dramatically increased uplift and cooling period in the Early Cretaceous are contemporaneous with large-scale gold mineralization in the Jiaodong Peninsula.This implies that thermal upwelling of asthenosphere and related tectonic extension played an important role in gold remobilization and precipitation.

Geochemistry and sedimentology of sediments in a short fluvial system,NW China:implications to the provenance and tectonic setting

Six outcrop sections in Fenghe River,Northwestern China,were sampled and analyzed.This study aims to determine provenance,tectonic setting,and source-area paleoweathering of the sediments of Fenghe River in combination of lithofacies analysis and bulk-rock geochemical data.The lithofacies in the studied area were classified as gravel,sand,and fine-grained clastic lithofacies,reflecting generally channel fill deposits,channel bar deposits,and over-bank deposits,respectively.The Chemical Index of Alteration(CIA),Plagioclase Index of Alteration(PIA),and Chemical Index of Weathering(CIW)values ranged 50.10–62.29,50.13–66.35,56.52–71.12,respectively,together with element ratios such as Rb/Sr,K/Na,Rb/K,Th/K,Rb/Ti,and Cs/Ti indicate that the source area was under a low to moderate chemical weathering condition probably in cold and semi-arid climates.Moreover,plot of SiO_(2)vs.(Al_(2)O_(3)+K_(2)O+Na_(2)O)suggests that the sediments were deposited in a semi-arid climate.Plots of Cr/Th vs.Th/Sc,TiO_(2)vs.Zr,La/Yb vs.rare earth element(REE),and La-Th-Sc ternary diagrams,along with the lithology,indicate that the sediments in Fenghe River were mainly originated from felsic igneous rocks.Major elements-based discrimination diagrams and Th-Sc-Zr/10 and La-Th-Sc ternary diagram of the samples indicates that the source rocks of Fenghe River developed in a composite active continental margin and continental island arc field.

Palaeogeographical development of two merging delta systems(Eocene Shahejie Formation)in the Bohai Bay Basin,E China and implications for hydrocarbon exploration

Two deltas developed simultaneously during the Eocene on the eastern side of a large lake that existed in the Dongying Sub-basin,which forms part of the Bohai Bay Basin in eastern China.The rivers that built the deltas had different catchment areas,which resulted in sediments with different permeability and porosity,due to differences in sorting and mud content.Both deltas prograded,and mass flows that originated frequently on their fronts formed lobes that expanded laterally.This eventually led to merging of both deltas,a feature that has rarely been described from ancient deposits thus far.Core analysis and seismic reflection data show that the merging of the two deltas took place in nine phases,determined by phases of slower progradation or even temporary retrogradation in between.The alternation of sediments from both deltas and their eventual mixing makes the architecture of the merged deltas much more complex than that of'classical'single deltas.This affects the predictability of the spatial distribution of possible reservoir characteristics significantly,but detailed core analysis shows that the best hydrocarbon reservoirs consist of sand bodies formed in distributary channels on the delta plains,and of sandy turbidites formed in the deep-lacustrine environment in front of the merged deltas.

The classification and significance of fine-grained deposits of micro-laminae rich in unconventional oil and gas resources

In this study,an in-depth analysis of the types,characteristics,and formation mechanisms of microlaminae and microscopic laminae was conducted in order to precisely examine the link or intersection of stratigraphy and petrology.This study was essentially a sedimentary examination of the minuteness-macro and micro-tiny layers between laminae and pore structure,as well as the types of structures and sedimentation.The results of this study bear important basic subject attributes and significance,as well as practical value for the basic theories and exploration applications of unconventional oil and gas geology.The quantitative data were obtained using the following:field macroscopic observations;measurements;intensive sampling processes;XRD mineral content analysis;scanning electron microscopy;high-power polarizing microscope observations;and micro-scale measurements.The quantitative parameters,such as laminae thicknesses,laminae properties,organic matter laminae,and laminae spatial distributions were unified within a framework,and the correlations among them were established for the purpose of forming a fine-grained deposition micro-laminae evaluation system.The results obtained in this research investigation established a basis for the classification of micro-laminae,and divided the micro-laminae into four categories and 20 sub-categories according to the development thicknesses,material compositions,organic matter content levels,and the spatial distributions of the micro-laminae.The classification scheme of the micro-laminae was divided into two categories and 12 sub-categories.Then,in accordance with the comprehensive characteristics of spatial morphology,the micro-laminae was further divided into the following categories:continuous horizontal laminae;near horizontal laminae;slow wavy laminae;wavy laminae;discontinuous laminae;and lenticular laminae.According to the structural properties of the laminae development,the micro-laminae was divided into the following categories:single laminae structures;laminated lam

Diagenetic mineralogy and its effect on the reservoir properties of the sandstones of the Permian of S120 block(Sulige gas field),Ordos Basin,NW China

The characteristics of diagenetic minerals and their effects on reservoir quality of the tight sandstones of the Permian in Sulige gas field of the Ordos Basin were studied through observations on thin sections,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis and electron microprobe analysis.Diagenetic minerals in the Permian sandstones consist of illite,kaolinite,chlorite,siliceous and calcite cements.Large amounts of intercrystalline pores between kaolinite and illite provide channels for acidic fluids flow and thereby were conducive to the formation of clastic solution pores,intergranular solution pores and composite pores.Authigenic chlorite occurs in the form of three morphotypes as grain-coating,pore-lining and pore-filling.Grain-coating and pore-lining chlorite with different crystal shapes occur as coatings on the framework grains.Pore-filling chlorite precipitated as discrete flaky plates in pore spaces.Quartz microcrystals developed but quartz overgrowth did not develop because of the occurrence of porelining chlorite.This,in turn,led to the preservation of primary pores by occupying potential nucleation sites for quartz overgrowth and thereby preventing quartz microcrystals from merging into quartz overgrowth.This process is regarded as the most important for influencing the quality of the lithophysical properties.Calcite cement was mainly precipitated during a late diagenetic stage and has a negative effect on the reservoir quality.This study provides important insights into analyzing the relationship between diagenetic minerals and reservoir quality and the results are directly applicable to the exploration and development of tight sandstone reservoirs all over the world.

Ultrahigh Temperature Metamorphic Record of Pelitic Granulites in the Huangtuyao Area of the Huai’an Complex,North China Craton

Pelitic granulite from the Huangtuyao area,occurrs in the Huai'an Complex,is located in the Trans-North China Orogen of the North China Craton.On the basis of petrolography,mineral component,and phase equilibrium modeling studies,the P-T conditions and mineral assemblages of pelitic granulites can be divided into four metamorphic stages:the prograde metamorphic stage M1 defined by the stable mineral assemblage of Grt1(garnet core)+Pl+Bt+Kfs+Qz+Rt,the peak pressure Pmax stage M2 indicated by Grt2(garnet mantle)+Kfs±(Ky)+Rt+Qz+Liq(melt),peak temperature Tmax stage M3 characterized by Grt3(garnet rim)+Sill+Pl+Kfs+Qz+Ilm+Liq,and retrograde stage M4 represented by Grt(in matrix)+Kfs+Sill+Bt+Pl+Qz+Ilm.By using the THERMOCALC V340,the P-T conditions are estimated at^13.8–14.1 kbar and^840–850℃at stage M2,and 7–7.2 kbar and 909–915℃for the Tmax stage M3,indicating an ultra-high temperature(UHT)metamorphic overprinting during decompression and heating process after high pressure granulite facies metamorphism.The mineral assemblages and their P-T conditions presented a clockwise P-T trajectory for the Huangtuyao pelitic granulites.The major metamorphic events at^1.95 and^1.88 Ga obtained by the zircon U-Pb dating suggest that pelitic granulites from the Huangtuyao area has undergone HP granulite metamorphism which probably occurred in the prograde metamorphism and related to the collision between the Ordos and the Yinshan blocks,and afterwards UHT metamorphism is related to crustal extension after continental-continental collision.
