Exploration and Study of deep Crustal Structure in the Quanzhou Basin and Its Adjacent Area

The Quanzhou basin and its adjacent areas locate in the middle of the southeastern coast seismic belt on the Chinese mainland. The very fine geometry structure of this area from near ground to moho interface and the relationship between the deep and shallow faults are obtained based on deep seismic reflection profiling. This profile is the first deep seismic reflection profile in this area and it indicates that the crust can be divided into the upper crust and the lower crust and the thickness of crnst is from 29.5 km to 31 km in this area. The upper crust and the lower crust can be also divided into two layers. There are shallow normal faults developed in the upper crust and extending to the depth from 6 km to 12 kin. The angle of those listric faults decreases with depth and the faults joint into the C1 interface （detachment surface）. There is a high angle fault under the Yong＇an-Jinjiang fault belt which cuts off the interface of the upper crust and the lower crust and the moho interface. Although there is no connection between the shallow and the deep faults, it offers deep structural environment for moderate and strong earthquake because of the deep high angle fault. This exploration result improves the reliability and precision of explanation of deep crustal structure in this area. The pull-apart and listric normal fault model indicates that the upper crust structure accords to the dynamic process of Taiwan Straits. This is helpful for seismicity estimation of Quanzhou and its adjacent area and important for obtaining more of the dynamic process of the southeast coast seismic belt.

Pathogenesis of Cancer: Cancer Reparative Trap

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world while the long-term prognosis is still unfavorable, despite the enormous efforts in the search for effective anti-cancer drugs. We think that the obstacle for creating of effective anti-cancer drugs could be existing idea that the basis of cancer is caused by the damage of the genetic apparatus of the cell. In this paper, we present the pathogenesis of cancer which is based on the formation of the special sustainable pathophysiological state of the organism what we call the state of “cancer reparative trap”. The essence of this pathophysiological state of the organism is in the reparative orientation of the immune system of cancer patients, when constant tissue repair is accompanied by systemic suppression of the anti-tumor immunity. Specifically, during the long-term exposure to carcinogens (exogenous and/or endogenous), the continuous tissue damage occurs which induces permanent stimulation of cell proliferation (imbalanced Th1 mphocytes, m1 m2 macrophages, inflammation, angiogenesis, etc.) in order to repair the tissues damaged. At the same time, tissue repair is necessarily accompanied by the suppression of anti-tumor immunity (increase in T-regulatory cells, imbalanced Th1 Th2 lymphocytes, m1 m2 macrophages et al.), which creates the necessary conditions for the survival of the malignantly transformed cells, formed by the action of carcinogens. The determining role of the imbalance in the autonomous nervous system (simpathetic/hypersympathetic dominance) in the development, maintenance and generalization of the cancer process has been shown. The explanation of a number of phenomena has been presented: the cell resistance to chemotherapy, and the phenomenon of cancer cell dormancy. The promising approaches for the cancer management in clinical practice have been proposed.

Review Article: High-Temperature Adult-Plant Resistance, Key for Sustainable Control of Stripe Rust

High-temperature adult-plant (HTAP) resistance expresses when plants grow old and the weather becomes warm. This non-race specific and durable type of resistance has been used successfully in control of wheat stripe rust in the US since early 1960s. This article describes practical procedures for identification and characterization of HTAP resistance and reviews recent studies on discovery of genes conferring HTAP resistance. Recent studies providing insights to the molecular basis for the durability of HTAP resistance will be presented. Strategies for improving levels of HTAP resistance and improving control of stripe rust through combining HTAP resistance with effective all-stage resistance will be discussed.

Genome-wide association studies for inflorescence type and remontancy in Hydrangea macrophylla

Inflorescence type and remontancy are two valuable traits in bigleaf hydrangea(Hydrangea macrophylla L.)and both are recessively *** marker-assisted selection(mAS)can greatly reduce the time necessary to breed cultivars with desired *** this study,a genome-wide association study(GWAS)using 5803 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)was performed using a panel of 82 bigleaf hydrangea *** SNP locus(Hy_CAPS_Inflo)associated with inflorescence type was identified with general linear model(GLm)and mixed linear model(mLm)methods that explained 65.5%and 36.1%of the phenotypic variations,***-three SNPs associated with remontancy were detected in GLm whereas no SNP was detected in *** SNP locus(Hy_CAPS_Inflo)was converted to a cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence(CAPS)marker that showed absolute identification accuracy(100%)of inflorescence type in a validation panel consisting of eighteen *** *** SNP was investigated in 341 F1 progenies using genotyping by sequencing(GBS)and co-segregated with inflorescence type(χ^(2)=0.12;P=0.73).The SNP was subsequently used for breeding selection using kompetitive allele specific PCR(KASP)*** directions for the use of genomics and mAS in hydrangea breeding improvement are *** results presented in this study provide insights for further research on understanding genetic mechanisms behind inflorescence type and remontancy in *** CAPS and KASP markers developed here will be immediately useful for applying mAS to accelerate breeding improvement in hydrangea.

INCREASEd mUSCLE Na~+-K~+-ATPase PUmP NUmBERS AFTER SURGICAL TRAUmA: A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE HYPERmETABOLIC STATE

Objective: TO assess the increase of Na + -K+ -ATPase pump numbers of skeletal muscle in contributing hypermetabolic state after surgical trauma. methods The total energy expenditures were measured in the burn(n = 7) and sham burn (n = 7)groups of rabbits, in 72h after the induction of burn or sham burn injury. The Na + -K+ -pumps were measured by incubating the muscle specimens taken from the same groups of animals and quantifying the specific binding of 3 H-ouabain to the *** The results revealed that burn injury induced elevated whole body energy expenditure (206. 1850 ± 26. 8725 kj ·kg· d -1 in sham burn vs. 260. 7050± 46. 0145 kj· kg ·d-1 in burn, P= 0. 0294 ). This was accompanied with a significant increment of muscle Na + -K + -ATPase numbers (298.99± 25. 29 pmol/L in sham burn vs 677. 66 ± 91. 31 pmol/L in burn, P = 0. 0035). Conclusion These findings support our initial hypothesis that altered Na + -K + -ATPase-pump is a contributing factor to the by hypermetabolic response to the injury. The possible clinical and cellular patho-physiolopcal significance of our initial findings are further discussed.

Forecasting wind speed using a reinforcement learning hybrid ensemble model:a high-speed railways strong wind signal prediction study in Xinjiang,China

machine reading comprehension has been a research focus in natural language processing and intelligence ***,there is a lack of models and datasets for the mRC tasks in the anti-terrorism ***,current research lacks the ability to embed accurate background knowledge and provide precise *** address these two problems,this paper first builds a text corpus and testbed that focuses on the anti-terrorism domain in a semi-automatic ***,it proposes a knowledge-based machine reading comprehension model that fuses domain-related triples from a large-scale encyclopedic knowledge base to enhance the semantics of the *** eliminate knowledge noise that could lead to semantic deviation,this paper uses a mixed mutual ttention mechanism among questions,passages,and knowledge triples to select the most relevant triples before embedding their semantics into the *** results indicate that the proposed approach can achieve a 70.70%Em value and an 87.91%F1 score,with a 4.23%and 3.35%improvement over existing methods,respectively.

mOdELING TROPICAL CYCLONE INdUCEd STREAm FLOW IN TAR PAmLICO RIVER OF NORTH CAROLINA

In order to better understand and simulate large coastal watershed hydrology and hydro-meteorological processes associated with tropical cyclone(TC) induced inland flooding, the Annualized Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution model(Ann AGNPS) with muskingum channel routing has been applied to the Tar-Pamlico river basin in North Carolina, USA. The study focuses on three major hydro-meteorological processes: 1) largescale atmospheric environment, 2) watershed hydrological processes and 3) groundwater response. The modeling results indicate that although the Ann AGNPS model can perform well in predicting the total amount of watershed runoff, channel routing is needed to improve the hydrographs of flow discharge during hurricane events. Sensitivity analysis of soil saturated hydrological conductivity(K_s) indicates that both base flow and event total runoff are sensitive to K_s. Base flow increases as K_s increases when 0 m/day, but decreases slightly when K_s > 15 m/day. Peak runoff exponentially decreases as K_s increases. The results also show that without the preceding Hurricane dennis, the outlet discharge as a result of Hurricane Floyd would have been as much as 37% lower than that caused by the combined dennis-Floyd effect.
