BACKGROUND Nutrition recommendations in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)are to consume rye or integral bread instead of white bread.A positive effect on glucoregulation has been achieved by enriching food with various biologically active substances of herbal origin,so we formulated an herbal mixture that can be used as a supplement for a special type of bread(STB)to achieve better effects on postprandial glucose and insulin levels in patients with *** To compare organoleptic characteristics and effects of two types of bread on postprandial glucose and insulin levels in T2DM *** This trial included 97 patients with T2DM.A parallel group of 16 healthy subjects was also *** participants were given 50 g of rye bread and the same amount of a STB with an herbal mixture on 2 consecutive *** blood glucose and insulin levels were compared at the 30^(th),60^(th),90^(th) and 120th min.A questionnaire was used for subjective estimation of the organoleptic and satiety features of the two types of *** Compared to patients who consumed rye bread,significantly lower postprandial blood glucose and insulin concentrations were found in T2DM patients who consumed *** relevant differences were found among the healthy *** estimated organoleptic and satiety characteristics are better for STB than for rye *** STB have better effects than rye bread on postprandial glucoregulation in T2DM *** estimated organoleptic and satiety characteristics are better for STB than for rye ***,STB can be recommended for nutrition in T2DM patients.

Enhanced Osteogenesis of Nanosized Cobalt-substituted Hydr.xyapatite

Hydr.xyapatite （HAp） is an extensively studied material with known biocompatible and osteoconductive properties in bone tissue reconstruction. The improvement of the osteogenetic potential of HAp has been tested through modification of its structure, by replacing Ca2＋ ions with Co2＋ ions. In our study, we comparatively analyze the osteogenetic potential of the syn- thesized HAp and Co2＋-substituted HAp （HAp/Co） designed on the nano-scale with the aim of specifically stimulating osteo- genesis in vivo. We present a quantitative study of the microscopic organization and structure of the newly formed tissue in a bone defect after 12 weeks and 24 weeks. A quantitative analysis of the calcium, magnesium and phosphorus content in the defect and its close environment was used to determine the deposition of minerals after bone reconstruction. The defect recon- structed with HAp/Co nanoparticles （Co2＋ content 12 wt%） was filled with a new tissue matrix composed of dense collagen fibers containing centers of mineralization after 24 weeks. The mineral deposition rate was also higher when the defect was reconstructed with HAp/Co than when it was filled with pttre HAp. A histological analysis confirmed that the alveolar bone, in which osteoporosis-induced defects were repaired using HAp/Co nanoparticles, was recuperated.

Impact of Microstructural and Surface Modifications on the Ti-45Nb Alloy’s Response to Bio-Environment

The Ti-45Nb (mass%) alloy’s corrosive and biocompatible response in simulated physiological conditions was investigated before and after its additional high-pressure torsion (HPT) and laser irradiation processing. The grain size reduction from 2.76 µm to ~ 200 nm and the appearance of laser-induced morphologically altered and highly oxidized surface led to the significant improvement of alloy corrosion resistance and cell–implant interaction. Moreover, an additional increase of the laser pulse energy from 5 to 15 mJ during the alloy irradiation in the air led to an increase in the surface oxygen content from 13.64 to 23.89% accompanied by an increase of excellent cell viability from 127.18 to 134.42%. As a result of the controlled alloy microstructural and surface modifications, the formation of protective bi-modal mixed Ti- and Nb-oxide external scale was enabled. The presence of this surface oxide scale enhanced the alloy’s resistance to corrosion deterioration and simultaneously boosted cell viability and proliferation.

Applying the Different Statistical Tests in Analysis of Electrical Breakdown Mechanisms in Nitrogen Filled Gas Diode

This paper presents the results of our investigations of breakdown mechanisms, as well as a description of their influence on the distributions of time delay distributions, for a gas tube filled with nitrogen at 4 mbar. The values of the time delay are measured for different voitages, and the values of the relaxation times and their distributions and probability plots are analyzed. The obtained density distributions have Gaussian distributions and exponential distributions for different values of relaxation times （Gaussian for small values and exponential for large values of relaxation time）. It is shown that for middle values of relaxation time the delay distributions have a shape between Caussian and exponential distributions, which is a result of the different influences of electrical breakdown.

Influences of synthesis methods and modifier addition on the properties of Ni-based catalysts supported on reticulated ceramic foams

A method of synthesizing Ni-based catalysts supported on α-Al2O3-based foams was developed. The foams were impregnated with aqueous solutions of metal chlorides under an air atmosphere using an aerosol route. Separate procedures involved calcination to form oxides and dr.ing to obtain chlorides on the foam surface. The synthesized samples were subsequently reduced with hydr.gen. With respect to the Ni/Al2O3 catalysts, the chloride reduction route enabled the formation ofa Ni coating without agglomerates or cracks. Further research included catalyst modification by the addition of Pd, Cu, and Fe. The influences of the additives on the degree of reduction and on the low-temperature reduction effectiveness （533 and 633 K） were examined and compared for the catalysts obtained from oxides and chlorides. Greater degrees of reduction were achieved with chlorides, whereas Pd was the most effective modifier among those investigated. The reduction process was nearly complete at 533 K in the sample that contained 0.1wt% Pd. A lower reduction temperature was utilized, and the calcination step was avoided, which may enhance the economical and technological aspects of the developed catalyst production method.

Hydr.distillation has commonly been used to recover essential oil from various plant materials,including lavender(Lavandula officinalis) *** main objectives of the present study were to model the kinetics of the lavender essential oil(LEO) hydr.distillation using a phenomenological model,to evaluate the statistical significance of the hydr.module and hydr.distillation time on LEO yield combining a 4~2 full factorial design with the response surface methodology,to model statistically LEO yield by multiple non-linear regression and to determine the optimal process conditions that provided the maximum LEO *** fast-essential oil distillation(washing stage) in the initial period and the slow diffusion stage until the saturation occurring simultaneously were observed,justifying the use of the phenomenological *** increasing the hydr.module,the saturation LEO yield and the washable fraction of the LEO decreased while the washing and diffusion rate constants *** of the LEO oil yield and the hydr.distillation kinetics is important from the techno-economical point of view.
