We propose an in-fiber Michelson-Fabry-Perrot(M-FP)hybrid interferometer for the simultaneous measurement of seawater temperature and salinity.The sensor head consists of two parallel hetero Fabry-Perot(FP)cavities fabricated on the end face of the twin core fiber(TCF).A fiber fusion taper is used to split and recouple the light in the two cores.In this case,the Vernier effect can be obtained which can greatly enhance the sensitivity and solve the problem of temperature cross-sensitivity.Different from the traditional demodulation method based on envelop detection,we employed frequency domain decomposition method(FDDM)to demodulate the sensing signal.The simulation results indicate that the proposed sensor has high sensitivity to salinity and temperature.Thanks to the merits of high sensitivity,ease of fabrication and small footprint,the proposed seawater temperature and salinity sensor would have potential applications in marine science,food industry and ocean ranching.

To map the rock joints in the underground rock mass， a method was proposed to semi-automatically detect the rock joints from borehole imaging logs using a deep learning algorithm. First， 450 images containing rock joints were selected from borehole ZKZ01 in the Rumei hydropower station. These images were labeled to establish ground truth which was subdivided into training， validation， and testing data. Second， the YOLO v2 model with optimal parameter settings was constructed. Third， the training and validation data were used for model training， while the test data was used to generate the Precision-Recall curve for prediction evaluation. Fourth， the trained model was applied to a new borehole ZKZ02 to verify the feasibility of the model. There were 12 rock joints detected from the selected images in borehole ZKZ02 and four geometric parameters for each rock joint were determined by sinusoidal curve fitting. The average precision of the trained model reached 0.87.

The disposal of filtered tailings in high dry stacks can induce particle breakage,changing the material's behaviour during the structure's lifetime.The grading changes influence material properties at the critical state,and this is not mature for intermediate artificial soils(tailings)in a broad range of confining pressures.In this paper,it aims to describe the behaviour of iron ore tailings in a spectrum of confining pressures broader than the reported in previous studies.A series of consolidated drained(CD)triaxial tests was carried out with confining pressures ranging from 0.075 MPa to 120 MPa.These results show that the amount of breakage plays an essential role in the response of iron ore tailings.The existence of curved critical state line(CSL)in both specific volume(ν)-logarithm of mean effective stress(p′)and deviatoric stress(q)-mean effective stress(p′)planes,and different responses in the deviatoric stress-axial strain-volumetric strain curves were verified.An inverse S-shaped equation was proposed to represent the silty-sandy tailings'behaviour up to high pressures onν-lnp′plane.The proposed equation provides a basis for enhancing constitutive models and considers the evolution of the grading up to severe loading conditions.The adjustment considered three regions with different responses associated with particle breakage at different pressure levels.

Biodynamical processes,especially in system biology,that occur far apart in space may be highly correlated.To study such biodynamics,simultaneous imaging over a large span at high spatio-temporal resolutions is highly desired.For example,large-scale recording of neural network activities over various brain regions is indispensable in neuroscience.However,limited by the field-of-view(FoV)of conventional microscopes,simultaneous recording of laterally distant regions at high spatio-temporal resolutions is highly challenging.Here,we propose to extend the distance of simultaneous recording regions with a custom micro-mirror unit,taking advantage of the long working distance of the objective and spatio-temporal multiplexing.We demonstrate simultaneous dual-region two-photon imaging,spanning as large as 9 mm,which is 4 times larger than the nominal FoV of the objective.We verify the system performance in in vivo imaging of neural activities and vascular dilations,simultaneously,at two regions in mouse brains as well as in spinal cords,respectively.The adoption of our proposed scheme will promote the study of systematic biology,such as system neuroscience and system immunology.

Global warming and algal blooms have been two of the most pressing problems faced by the world today.In recent decades,numerous studies indicated that global warming promoted the expansion of algal blooms.However,research on how algal blooms respond to global warming is scant.Global warming coupled with eutrophication promoted the rapid growth of phytoplankton,which resulted in an expansion of algal blooms.Algal blooms are affected by the combined effects of global warming,including increases in temperatures,CO_(2)concentration,and nutrient input to aquatic systems by extreme weather events.Since the growth of phytoplankton requires CO_(2),they appear to act as a carbon sink.Unfortunately,algal blooms will release CH4,CO_(2),and inorganic nitrogen when they die and decompose.As substrate nitrogen increases from decompose algal biomass,more N2O will be released by nitrification and denitrification.In comparison to CO_(2),CH4has 28-fold and N2O has 265-fold greenhouse effect.Moreover,algal blooms in the polar regions may contribute to melting glaciers and sea ice(will release greenhouse gas,which contribute to global warming)by reducing surface albedo,which consequently would accelerate global warming.Thus,algal blooms and global warming could form feedback loops which prevent human survival and development.Future researches shall examine the mechanism,trend,strength,and control strategies involved in this mutual feedback.Additionally,it will promote global projects of environmental protection combining governance greenhouse gas emissions and algal blooms,to form a geoengineering for regulating the cycles of carbon,nitrogen,and phosphorus.

The architectural modernity that prevailed in Germany during the first half of the twentieth century cannot be understood without an appreciation of the work of Lilly Reich,a brilliant designer of interiors,furniture,and ephemeral architecture who exerted significant influence from her active position as a member of the Deutscher Werkbund.Despite the critical recognition she acquired in the media of the time during her solo career,her association with the architect Mies van der Rohe,far from positioning her in the field of contributions,relegated her to the role of a mere collaborator.For this reason,this article aims to shed light on the extensive legacy of Lilly Reich,a woman whose figure is being acknowledged as a result of recent research but who was nevertheless omitted from the leading books on the history of architecture.The methodology employed in the research analyses comparatively“what she did”and“what was said about her”,highlighting the convergences and divergences between“work”and“criticism”.The study and its results yield interesting conclusions regarding both the recognition that Lilly Reich received during her lifetime and the criticism she received after her death and up to the present day.

The Standard Model is the theory of Physics that describes the elementary particles of matter and the strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions, between them. The theory of the Standard Model does not include the description of the gravitational interactions. It is a very well founded theory that has predicted many experimental results, such as the existence of many particles and has withstood many experimental tests. The key missing piece of the theory to fill in was the Higgs boson, whose existence was reasonably suspected and confirmed by CERN’s ATLAS and CMS experiments in 2012. The current synthesis of the theory was completed in the mid-1970s, after the experimental confirmation of the existence of the quarks, and then confirmed, with the discovery of the Higgs boson, in 2012. All these, are according to the established views of science. But according to the opinions of many scientists, opinions with which I as the author of this paper agree, the theory of the Standard Model is a wrong theory because, while it makes some successful predictions, it does not answer to a number of many other questions that it should answer for its final establishment. Specifically and according to established views, the theory cannot explain the existence of dark matter and dark energy, the behavior of neutrinos and the existence of particles with very different masses. It is also questionable whether the Higgs boson, discovered in the ATLAS experiment is actually the particle that contributes to the creation of the mass of the elementary particles of matter, and whether the Higgs mechanism is theoretically a correct mechanism. There is doubt if the interactions, actually be created by the exchange of bosons? If bosons are really exist? And not any convincing explanation is given by the theory, for the case that, the bosons exist as particles, where were they found? And how do they work? For replace, or fill the void will be left by the theory of the Standard Model, which I believe sooner or later will be renewed or retire
