Spatial mapping and testing the applicability of the curve number method for ungauged catchments in Northern Ethiopia

Understanding the spatial variability of land and water resources has significant importance for its planning,management,and *** is also significant in understanding the response behavior of a catchment in order to model the basic physical *** this study,a weighted overlay analysis technique using ArcGIS was implemented for developing a geo-database of the standard curve number(SCN)in a catchment around Northern *** spatial data were used to investigate a'standard curve number method'for the simulation of the direct runoff at the outlet of the *** spot based rainfall and runoff measuring techniques were adopted for deriving an instant observed flow measurement,and to make a comparison with the simulated flow *** results showed that the model underestimated most of the simulated values with a coefficient of regression of R^(2)=0.52,with a p.o.ortion of higher variances between the simulated and observed runoff *** result suggests that the accuracy of the model leaves room for significant imp.o.ement and the method could not be easily adopted in the catchment and other similar catchments in the semi arid regions of *** imp.o.ing the prediction capacity of the model,further research in adjusting loss factors in the method is *** is also suggested for developing a localized and modified SCN values by considering geologic,climatic and seasonal *** results of this study and the maps generated can be used for imp.o.ing the hydrological understanding of the *** study is useful for further investigation of the SCN methodology in other un-gauged catchments around the world.

Theoretical analysis of the dynamic behavior of cavitating vortices requires knowledge of the velocity distribution in the vortex core. For that reason an existing similarity model for slender axisymmetric non-cavitating vortex cores has been extended with the viscous boundary conditions for a cavitating vortex. Cavitating similarity solutions exist for a vortex of which both core diameter and circulation grow with the square root of the axial coordinate. Results for this model are presented for varying cavitation numbers and Reynolds numbers. It is shown that viscosity may have a significant influence on the velocity distribution around a cavitating vortex.

Exclosure land management for restoration of herbaceous species in degraded communal grazing lands in Southern Tigray

Herbaceous species contribute to the largest p.o.ortion of the *** the p.o.ound benefits obtained,anthropogenic disturbances are hindering its *** the other hand,to ensure the sustainability of herbaceous species,communities and governments have been putting efforts in managing herbaceous species through the establishment of area exclosure(AE).Thus,the main importance of this research paper is to p.o.ide information about the role of AE on the restoration of herbaceous *** objective of this study was to assess the effect of restoration on the herbaceous species following AE established on communal grazing land(CGL).A total of 124 and 73 quadrats of 1×1m^(2) size were laid down at 50 m intervals along parallel transects at AE and CGL,respectively,and data were analyzed by t-test unequal variances using *** displayed higher plant species richness and diversity than the CGL and showed a significant difference(pporage biomass than the *** general,herbaceous species diversity index and species richness were significantly(pompared to the *** study concluded that effective AE has the potential to enhance the restoration of herbaceous species and hence forage p.o.uctivity.

White grubs, Holotrichia rustica and Holotrichia mucida （Coleoptera： Scarabaeidae） as pests of teak （Tectona grandis L. f.） seedlings

Field observations were carried out between 2002 and 2005 on bio-ecology of white grubs infesting teak （Tectona grandis Linn. f.） seedlings at Ramdongari Forest Nursery, Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra, Nagpur in central India. The study collected the data required for an integrated pest management strategy against the white grubs. The species damaging teak seedlings were Holotrichia rustica （Burmeister） and H. mucida Gyllenhal. The beetles （adults） of both these species began to emerge just after the pre-monsoon showers and when the relative humidity had risen rapidly over several days, but before the first monsoon rains. While the adults fed and mated on naturally growing bushes of Ziziphus jujuba, Z mauritiana, Z. xylopyra, Acacia leucophloea and A. catechu immediately after the emergence from the teak beds in the nursery, the immature stages （grubs） of both species fed on roots of the teak seedling, leading to plant death. This is the first report of （i） damage caused to teak seedlings by grubs ofH. rustica and H. mucida, and （ii） of *** and Z. mauritiana being hosts for the beetles ofH. mucida and H, rustica. It is also the first detailed report on the field bio-ecology of the H. rustica and H. mucida as major pests ofteak. White grubs are among the toughest-to-manage pests of economic importance and information presented here on the pest incidence and damage ofH. rustica and H. mucida is important to researchers and nursery field managers for the management of these pests on teak.

Investigation of the potts Model on Triangular Lattices by the Second Renormalization of Tensor Network States

We emp.o. the second renormalization group method of tensor-network states to investigate thermodynamic p.o.erties of the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic potts model on triangular lattices. From the temperature dependence of the internal energy and the specific heat, both the critical temperatures and critical exponents are evaluated. For the q = 3 antiferromagnetic potts model, the critical temperature is found to be Tc = 0.627163±0.000003, which is at least one order of magnitude more accurate than that obtained by other methods.

This paper presents the design,calibration,and survey strategy of the Fast Radio Burst(FRB)digital backend and its real-time data p.o.essing pipeline emp.o.ed in the Tianlai Cylinder pathfinder *** array,consisting of three parallel cylindrical reflectors and equipped with 96 dual-polarization feeds,is a radio interferometer array designed for conducting drift scans of the northern celestial *** FRB digital backend enables the formation of 96 digital beams,effectively covering an area of app.o.imately 40 square degrees with the 3 dB *** pipeline demonstrates the capability to conduct an automatic search of FRBs,detecting at quasi-realtime and classifying FRB candidates *** current FRB searching pipeline has an overall recall rate of88%.During the commissioning phase,we successfully detected signals emitted by four well-known pulsars:pSR B0329+54,B2021+51,B0823+26,and B2020+*** report the first discovery of an FRB by our array,designated as FRB *** also investigate the optimal arrangement for the digitally formed beams to achieve maximum detection rate by numerical simulation.
