Meta-analysis was used to determine whether maintenance intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG)could reduce recurrence after transurethral resection of tumor 1 grade 3(T1G3)superficial bladder *** available published data of randomized clinical trials comparing transurethral resection plus intravesical BCG to either resection alone or resection plus another treat-ment on the treatment results in patients with superficial bladder cancer of T1G3 were selected for *** the fixed effects model and random effects model were applied,and the odds ratio(OR)with its 95%confidence interval(CI)was used as the effect size *** analysis and publication bias determination were performed by funnel plots and comparing ORs of different *** the follow-up period,375 of 915(41.0%)BCG-treated patients and 332 of 733(45.3%)non-BCG-treated patients developed tumor *** the combined results,a statistically signifi-cant difference in the ORs for tumor recurrence between the two treatment groups was found(randomized model combined effect OR 0.58,95%CI 0.41 to 0.83,P 50.003).The stratified meta-analysis did not show any statistically significant confounding effects on the results when strati-fied by BCG *** randomized model combined effect OR of Pasteur F and other strains were 0.50(95%CI 0.26 to 0.95,P 50.04)and 0.63(95%CI 0.40 to 0.99,P 50.04),***,we came to the conclu-sion that adjuvant maintenance instillation BCG com-bined with transurethral resection of bladder tumor(TURBT)is an effective conservative treatment for pre-venting recurrence of T1G3 bladder cancer.

The tumor microenvironment features over-expressed hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)).Thus,versatile therapeutic strategies based on H_(2)O_(2) as a reaction substrate to generate hydroxyl radical(•OH)have been used as a prospective therapeutic method to boost anticancer ***,the limited Fenton catalysts and insufficient endogenous H_(2)O_(2) content in tumor sites greatly hinder•OH production,failing to achieve the desired therapeutic ***,supplying Fenton catalysts and elevating H_(2)O_(2) levels into cancer cells are effective strategies to improve•OH *** therapeutic strategies are systematically discussed in this ***,the challenges and future developments of hydroxyl radical-involved cancer therapy are discussed to improve therapeutic efficacy.

Background:Acute mountain sickness(AMS)is the mildest form of acute altitude illnesses,and consists of nonspecific symptoms when unacclimatized persons ascend to elevation of≥2500 *** factors of AMS include:the altitude,individual susceptibility,ascending rate and degree of *** the current study,we examined whether physiological response at low altitude could predict the development of ***:A total of 111 healthy adult healthy volunteers participated in this trial;and 99(67 men and 32 women)completed the entire study *** were asked to complete a 9-min exercise program using a mechanically braked bicycle ergometer at low altitude(500 m).Heart rate,blood pressure(BP)and pulse oxygen saturation(SpO2)were recorded prior to and during the last minute of *** ascent from 500 m to 4100 m was completed in 2 *** was defined as≥3 points in a 4-item Lake Louise Score,with at least one point from headache wat 6–8 h after the ***:Among the 99 assessable subjects,47(23 men and 24 women)developed AMS at 4100 *** comparison to the subjects without AMS,those who developed AMS had lower proportion of men(48.9%vs.84.6%,P<0.001),height(168.4±5.9 cm vs.171.3±6.1 cm,P=0.019),weight(62.0±10.0 kg vs.66.7±8.6 kg,P=0.014)and proportion of smokers(23.4%vs.51.9%,P=0.004).Multivariate regression analysis revealed the following independent risks for AMS:female sex(odds ratio(OR)=6.32,P<0.001),SpO2 change upon exercise at low altitude(OR=0.63,P=0.002)and systolic BP change after the ascent(OR=0.96,P=0.029).Women had larger reduction in SpO2 after the ascent,higher AMS percentage and absolute AMS *** reduction of SpO2 after exercise was associated with both AMS incidence(P=0.001)and AMS score(P<0.001)in men but not in ***:Larger SpO2 reduction after exercise at low altitude was an independent risk for AMS upon *** an association was more robust in men than in *** registration:Chinese Clinical

AIM： To investigate the potential of pigment epitheliumderived factor（PEDF） to protect the immortalized rat retinal ganglion cells-5（RGC-5） exposed to Co Cl2-induced chemical hypoxia. METHODS： After being differentiated with staurosporine（SS）, RGC-5 cells were cultured in four conditions： control group cells cultured in Dulbecco ＇s modified eagle medium（DMEM） supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum, 100 μmol/m L streptomycin and penicillin（named as normal conditions）; hypoxia group cells cultured in DMEM containing 300 μmol/m L Co Cl2; cells in the group protected by PEDF were first pretreated with 100 ng/m L PEDF for 2h and then cultured in the same condition as hypoxia group cells; and PEDF group cells that were cultured in the presence of 100 ng/m L PEDF under normal conditions. The cell viability was assessed by MTT assay, the percentage of apoptotic cells was quantified using Annexin V-FITC apoptosis kit, and intra-cellar reactive oxygen species（ROS） was measured by dichloro-dihydro-fluorescein diacetate（DCFH-DA） probe. The mitochondria-mediated apoptosis was also examined to further study the underlying mechanism of the protective effect of PEDF. The opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores（m PTPs） and membrane potential（Δψm） were tested as cellular adenosine triphosphate（ATP） level and glutathione（GSH）. Also, the expression and distribution of Cyt C and apoptosis inducing factor（AIF） were ***： SS induced differentiation of RGC-5 cells resulting in elongation of their neurites and establishing contacts between outgrowths. Exposure to 300 μmol/m L Co Cl2 triggered death of 30% of the total cells in cultures within 24 h. At the same time, pretreatment with 100 ng/m L PEDF significantly suppressed the cell death induced by hypoxia（P〈0.05）. The apoptosis induced by treatment of Co Cl2 was that induced cell death accompanied with increasing intracellar ROS and decreasing GSH and ATP level. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between histopathological subtype and the probability of inguinal lymph node metastasis （ILNM） in patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma （PSCC）. The clinical records of 198 consecutive patients with PSCC were analyzed retrospectively. Primary lesions were reevaluated according to the 2016 World Health Organization （WHO） histopathological classification. We retrieved the clinicopathological factors from the medical records including age, clinical lymph node stage, pathological tumor stage, lymphatic invasion, and nerve invasion. Uni- and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to explore the risk factors of ILNM. Multivariate analyses identified clinical lymph node stage （P = 0.000）, pathological tumor stage （P = 0.016）, histologic grade （P = 0.000）, and risk group of histological subtypes （P = 0.029） as independent predictors for ILNM. Compared with the low-risk group of PSCC subtypes, the intermediate- （HR： 3.66, 95% CI. 1.30-10.37, P = 0.021） and high-risk groups （HR： 28.74, 95% Ch 2.37-348.54, P = 0.008） were significantly associated with ILNM. In conclusion, the histopathological subtype of the primary lesion is a significant predictor for ILNM in patients with PSCC.

AIMTo investigate whether the abnormal differentiation of the pterygium epithelium is related to the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway in *** expression levels of phosphorylated ERK (P-ERK), keratin family members including K19 and K10 and the ocular master control gene Pax-6 were measured in 16 surgically excised pterygium tissues and 12 eye bank conjunctiva. In colony-forming cell assays, the differences in clone morphology and in K10, K19, P-ERK and Pax-6 expression between the head and body were investigated. When cocultured with the ERK signaling pathway inhibitor PD98059, the changes in clone morphology, colony-forming efficiency, differentiated marker K10, K19 and Pax-6 expression and P-ERK protein expression level were examined by immunoreactivity and Western blot *** expression of K19 and Pax-6 decreased in the pterygium, especially in the head. No staining of K10 was found in the normal conjunctiva epithelium, but it was found to be expressed in the superficial cells in the head of the pterygium. Characteristic upregulation of P-ERK was observed by immunohistochemistry. The clone from the head with more differentiated cells in the center expressed more K10, and the clone from the body expressed more K19. The P-ERK protein level increased in the pterygium epithelium compared with conjunctiva and decreased when cocultured with PD98059. The same medium with the ERK inhibitor PD98059 was more effective in promoting clonal growth than conventional medium with 3T3 murine feeder layers. It was observed that the epithelium clone co-cultured with the inhibitor had decreased K10 expression and increased K19 and Pax-6 *** suggest ERK signaling pathway activation might play a role in the pterygium epithelium abnormal differentiation.

AIM: To investigate the expression and possible role of the autophagy related protein p62 and LC3 in the retina based on a rat model of acute ocular ***: Fifty rats were randomized into five groups: control group A, B, C, and D. Groups A to D all received normal saline perfusion into the anterior chamber with pressure of 80 mm Hg for one hour, and retina tissue was obtained at 6, 12, 24 and 48 h after perfusion respectively, to investigate the activation of autophagy following ischemiareperfusion. The distribution and semi-quantification of autophagy related protein p62 and LC3 in the retina were detected using immunohistochemistry technique. The expression level of these two proteins was evaluated using Western ***: The number of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs) decreased with increasing reperfusion time, and significant reduction in the retinal thickness was observed 48 h after perfusion. In normal adult rats, LC3 protein was mainly expressed in the ganglion cell layer(GCL), and p62 protein was expressed in the nerve fiber layer(NFL), GCL, inner plexiform layer(IPL), inner nuclear layer(INL) and outer plexiform layer(OPL). In comparison to the control group, the expression level of LC3-II was higher in all the experimental groups(P<0.05), with the peak expression at 12 h after reperfusion. Additionally, the expression level of p62 was higher in all the experimental groups than the control(P<0.05, except for group A), with the peak level occurred 24 h after reperfusion. CONCLUSION: Both p62 and LC3 show low level and uneven expression in the retina of normal adult rats. Acute ocular hypertension can lead to upregulation of LC3-II and p62 expression in the retina. Autophagy flux is damaged 12 h after reperfusion, potentially resulting in further loss of RGCs.
