Semantic and Phonemic Verbal Fluency Performance in Patients with General Anxiety Disorders and Allostatic Load under Alprazolam Treatment

Purpose: Anxiety disorders are frequently associated with chronic stress with possible cognitive consequences. The aim of this study was to determine the verbal fluency performance in a cohort of patients with anxiety disorders and allostatic load, treated with alprazolam during 12 weeks. Methods: Patients with GAD (general anxiety disorders, DSM IV), with >6 in Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), neuroticism > 18 (NEO-FFI inventory), and normal Mini-Mental State Examination were included. Clinical and Psychiatric examination, Allostatic Load Index and cognitive assessment were analyzed before and after 12 weeks of treatment. The phonemic and semantic verbal fluency tests were determined in all patients. The scoring for each fluency task was determined by counting the number of correct words. The total score from each semantic and phonemic verbal task was analyzed comparing the individual score with normal data controlled by age and sex. Patients with scores > ?2 standard deviation (SD) from normative data were considered impaired. Results: Fifty-four patients completed the semantic verbal fluency test before treatment and fifty patients completed after treatment. According to the z-scores before treatment 7 patients of 54 (12.9%) had verbal fluency impairments. After treatment none patients showed semantic verbal fluency deficits but 3 patients of 50 (6%) showed phonemic impairments. Impaired group was significantly associated with an older age before treatment (p = 0.033) and with a similar tendency but not significant (p = 0.09) after treatment (Student t test). Conclusion: In this study older age factor was associated with verbal fluency impairment in GAD patients. Stratified treatments analyzing age and sex factors, including allostatic load measurements and cognitive assessments may be useful tools to determine the effectiveness and the safety of psychopharmacological treatments.

Introduction: Allostatic load (AL) index proposes indicators for the functioning of the main potentially stress-affected systems. Sex differences in stress response and stress-related diseases susceptibility have been described for the general population. In this observational study we describe the effects of sex and age on AL variables, in a cohort of patients with general anxiety disorders and neuroticism treated with alprazolam during 12 weeks, before and after treatment. Methods: Patients with general (DSM IV) anxiety disorders with >6 in Hamilton scale, AL (>1 Crimmins and Seeman AL modified criteria) and neuroticism >18 (NEO-FFI inventory), were included. All patients completed psychiatric assessment, AL index determination before (−1 week) and after 12 weeks of treatment with alprazolam (0.25 - 1 mg/t.i.d). Allostatic load parameters comprised cardiovascular, metabolic and inflammatory variables. Univariate analysis (two-way ANOVA), Student’s t-test (related variables) and Pearson correlations were determined. Results: Fifty-four patients, 35 females (48.6 ± 11.7 years) and 19 males (44.2 ± 12.8 years) with general anxiety disorder were included;28 patients with Conclusions: In this preliminary analysis we described sex and age differences in psychiatry aspects and AL indexes in patients with general anxiety disorders in the short-term treatment with alprazolam. These considerations remark the need of pondering sex and age differences during the use of drugs for protracted periods.

In Burkina Faso, as in other African countries, infertility has become a social burden for the population and a public health problem. Male infertility accounts for 30% to 40% of all infertility cases. The diagnosis of male infertility or hypofertility is often made by a simple laboratory analysis of sperm to explore sperm parameters. In most African countries, such as Burkina Faso, microbiological analysis in the context of sperm analysis is still not developed, and is carried out solely based on microscopy and traditional culture, which does not allow the growth of fragile and demanding bacteria. Our study investigated the microorganisms of sperm that may be involved in male infertility, using conventional bacteriology techniques and real-time PCR. However, it did not intend to perform a multivariate statistical association analysis to estimate the association of microorganisms with abnormal semen parameters. This prospective cross-sectional pilot study was carried out on patients who visited the bacteriology laboratory of Centre MURAZ, a research Institute in Burkina Faso, for male infertility diagnosis between 2 August and 31 August 2021. Bacteria were isolated and identified using standard bacteriology techniques. In parallel, common pathogenic microorganisms known to be associated with male infertility were targeted and detected in the sperm using a multiplex real-time PCR assay. A total of 38 sperm samples were analyzed by bacteriological culture and bacteria isolated were Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) 5.55%, Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) and Staphylococcus hoemalyticus (S. hoemalyticus) respectively 2.70%. Real-time PCR targeted and detected Chlamydia trachomatis (C. trachomatis) at 7.89%, Ureaplasma urealyticum (U. urealyticum) at 21.05%, Ureaplasma parvum (U. parvum) at 18.42%, Mycoplasma hominis (M. hominis) at 15.79%, Mycoplasma genitalium (M. genitalium) at 10.53%

Understanding the dynamic responses of hard rocks is crucial during deep mining and tunneling activities and when constructing nuclear waste repositories. However, the response of deep massive rocks with openings of different shapes and orientations to dynamic loading is not well understood. Therefore, this study investigates the dynamic responses of hard rocks of deep underground excavation activities. Split Hopkins Pressure Bar (SHPB) tests on granite with holes of different shapes (rectangle, circle, vertical ellipse (elliptical short (ES) axis parallel to the impact load direction), and horizontal ellipse (elliptical long (EL) axis parallel to the impact load direction)) were carried out. The influence of hole shape and location on the dynamic responses was analyzed to reveal the rocks' dynamic strengths and cracking characteristics. We used the ResNet18 (convolutional neural network-based) network to recognize crack types using high-speed photographs. Moreover, a prediction model for the stress-strain response of rocks with different openings was established using Deep Neural Network (DNN). The results show that the dynamic strengths of the granite with EL and ES holes are the highest and lowest, respectively. The strength-weakening coefficient decreases first and then increases with an increase of thickness-span ratio (h/L). The weakening of the granite with ES holes is the most obvious. The ResNet18 network can improve the analyzing efficiency of the cracking mechanism, and the trained model's recognition accuracy reaches 99%. Finally, the dynamic stress-strain prediction model can predict the complete stress-strain curve well, with an accuracy above 85%.

Enhanced biological wastewater treatment using sodium alginate-immobilized microorganisms in a fluidized bed reactor

In this study,a microbial consortium isolated from an activated sludge tank of a conventional wastewater treatment plant was immobilized using sodium alginate(sa)as a support material for contaminant biodegradation in wastewater.A volume of 500 mL of activated sludge was immobilized in the sa beads(with a mass concentration of 25 g/L).The resulting sa beads were characterized,introduced into a fluidized bed reactor,fed with 1000 mL of the sample,and characterized again after the treatment *** sa-immobilized microorganisms were tested first for degradation of organic matter(expressed as chemical oxygen demand)and total phosphorous in domestic wastewater,achieving removal efficiencies of 71%and 93%,respectively,after 12 ***,the sa-immobilized microorganisms were tested for degradation of a basic blue 9(BB9)textile dye in a condition that simulated textile *** efficiency of the BB9 degradation was found to be as high as 99.5%after 2 *** to these results,sa-immobilized microorganisms were found to be an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative for treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater effluents.

Manufacturing enterprises play an important role in improving the economic environment of a ***,the capability to produce high quality products with shorter delivery time and the ability to produce according to the diverse customer requirements has become the characteristics of successful manufacturing industries. Application of intelligent manufacturing systems and Computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) are the most effective methods for overcoming the issues faced by present day manufactures while retaining the employment level and revenue of a country in today’s highly competitive global market. With the developments taking place in CIM and its related technologies,the application of CIM in manufacturing enterprises has become a reality from the dream. This paper highlights the historical developments towards automation and the need for CIM systems. Furthermore,it analyses some new terms such as agile manufacturing,digital manufacturing,agent-based manufacturing and others,which have been emerging recently,and argues all these new technologies are the subsystems of CIM. In addition,this paper provides a new direction in CIM to fulfil the emerging challenges in today’s global market and to satisfy the emerging need of virtual enterprises in the form of Virtual CIM.

To provide flexibility for the operation of smart electricity networks,a large number of scattered demand response resources are managed by a demand response aggregator(DRA).Increasing the economic viability of this new entity,i.e.,DRA,has attracted a great deal of attention in recent *** this direction,this paper proposes stochastic model of multiple large-scale energy storage system(LESS)investments from the perspective of a DRA.A LESS directly connects to smart distribution networks and provides the possibility to save energy costs and thereafter increase the energy efficiency of the *** this paper,a novel mixed-integer model is proposed to determine the optimal capacity and operation of a LESS in coordination with a DR *** model,as a main contribution to literature,comprises novel managerial options,such as the number of allowed DR actions,the number of allowed charging and ***,the model is designed to be capable enough to exclude the hours in which the demand side is not allowed to participate in *** proposed model is tested through a numerical example with various case *** simulation results show the substantial economic impacts of considering the introduced managerial options in the coordination of a LESS operation with DR.

Background: In the last 6 months, cases of acute hemorrhagic fever (AHF) have been recorded in sao Tome and Principe (STP). Objective: To identify the clinical, epidemiological and laboratory parameters associated with AHF cases found in patients hospitalized in STP. Methods: Descriptive and quantitative analysis of AHF cases hospitalized in STP in the period December 2021 to May 19, 2022 through the variables: demographic data;clinical data;laboratory data and clinical outcome. Results: Analyzed 18 of 22 AHF cases, 50% of them male, mean age 33.7 years, 85.7% residing in the 2 largest districts of the country, 66.7% rural workers, administrative near maritime areas, sailors and domestics. 66.7% were healthy individuals. ≥50% had a fever, asthenia/weakness, myalgia, headache, lethargy, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. 22.2% to 33.3% had retro-orbital pain, abdominal pain, decreased consciousness, dyspnea/hypoxia, and cough. In a smaller register (5.6% - 11.1%), exanthema, convulsion, arthralgia, low back pain, chills, and chest pain. Bleeding from the digestive tract was found in 72.2%, followed by vaginal (33.3%), urethral (27.8%), nasal (22.2%), and oral (16.7%). 50% had laboratory confirmation for dengue, and another 50% with suspected clinical diagnosis without laboratory confirmation of the etiologic agent. Despite hemorrhage, 66.7% of confirmed cases were hemodynamically non-severe, and 88.9% of suspected cases were severe. Coinfection with malaria is evidenced in 11.1% of cases. 72.2% recovered and 27.8% died (deaths in 55.5% of suspected cases). Case deaths were male (100%), resident foreigners (40%), tool store employees, sailors and students, healthy (80%), and residing in the largest district in the country (60%). All deaths were hospitalized in serious condition, 80% were hospitalized for hemorrhage and shock, with bleeding arising between day 4 - 5 of illness in 60% and hospitalization on day 5 of illness. 60% died within ≤24 hours of hospitalization. 80
