Genome sequence and transcriptome of Sorbus pohuashanensis provide insights into population evolution and leaf sunburn response

Sorbus pohuashanensis(Hance) Hedl. is a potential horticulture and medicinal plant, but its genomic and genetic backgrounds remain unknown. Here, we sequence and assemble the S. pohuashanensis reference genome using Pac Bio long reads. Based on the new reference genome, we resequence a core collection of22 Sorbus spp. samples, which are divided into 2 groups(G1 and G2) based on phylogenetic and PCA analyses. These phylogenetic clusters are highly consistent with their classification based on leaf *** hybridization between the G1 and G2 groups is evidenced by a sample(R21) with a highly heterozygous genotype. Nucleotide diversity(π) analysis shows that G1 has a higher diversity than G2 and that G2 originated from G1. During the evolution process, the gene families involved in photosynthesis pathways expanded and the gene families involved in energy consumption contracted. RNA-seq data suggests that flavonoid biosynthesis and heat-shock protein(HSP)-heat-shock factor(HSF) pathways play important roles in protection against sunburn. This study provides new insights into the evolution of Sorbus ***. In addition, the genomic resources, and the identified genetic variations, especially those related to stress resistance, will help future efforts to produce and breed Sorbus spp.

Nitrogen cycling has been poorly characterized in urban *** in-situ buried bag incubation technique was used to quantify net rates of N mineralization and nitrification in soils of two urban sites,a street greening belt and a university campus,and a suburban site,a forest park,in Hefei,East *** average concentration of extractable NO 3 in the surface soil (0-10 cm) was significantly higher at the urban sites than the suburban park site,whereas extractable NH + 4 concentration was significantly higher at the suburban park site than the urban *** forest park soil had greater potential N mineralization (148.1 μg N cm 3) than the soils from the campus (138.3 μg N cm 3) and street (99.8 μg N cm 3).The net mineralization rates varied between 1.63 and 2.69 μg N cm 3 d 1 and net nitrification rates between 0.82 and 1.02 μg N cm 3 d 1 at the suburban forest park site,but the rates varied from 1.27 to 2.41 μg N cm 3 d 1 and from 1.07 to 1.49 μg N cm 3 d 1,respectively,at the urban campus *** net mineralization and nitrification rates were lower during dry *** from regression analysis indicated that net N mineralization was significantly and positively correlated with soil moisture and soil C/N ratio,and was negatively correlated with soil *** nitrification was,however,significantly and negatively correlated with soil moisture and soil C/N ratio,and was positively correlated with soil *** relative nitrification was 0.763,indicating the dominance of nitrate cycling relative to ammonium cycling at the urban *** urban soils had the great potential for N losses compared to the suburban soils.

Heritage is in essence dissonant,especially colonial heritage in postcolonial *** questionnaire surveys and inter‑views,this study investigates Kulangsu in Xiamen,China,a colonial heritage site mainly developed in the 19th and 20th centuries,to unveil the local government’s authorised heritage discourse(AHD)of the site and how tourists perceive the colonial past of Kulangsu and construct their own heritage discourse(s).Results show that,when considering the colonial history of the site,neither the AHD promoted by the authorities nor the tourists’lay discourses are necessarily ***,tension implicitly arises between the tourists’demand for comprehensive heritage information and the authorities’selective interpretation of the *** the AHD afects lay discourses to some extent,most tourists expect the authorities to present more complete and neutral information about heritage so they can refect and forge their own conception of colonial *** a critical heritage studies perspective,this tension refects the power imbalance between the authorities and the tourists and reminds the authorities and heritage experts to rethink heritage tourism and conservation in terms of heritage *** paper,therefore,calls for additional refection on the legitimacy of selective interpretation,which implicates a complex process of intricate reasoning that is underpinned by the power imbalance between the authorities and the tourists,ultimately resulting in an AHD.

Prunus mume is an important woody plant that has high ornamental and economic value, widely distributed and used in landscape architecture in East Asia. In plants, basic(region) leucine zipper(bZIP) transcription factors play important regulatory roles in growth, development,dormancy and abiotic stress. To date, bZIP transcription factors have not been systematically studied in P. mume. In this study, 49 bZIP genes were first identified in P. mume, and the PmbZIP family was divided into 12 groups according to the grouping principles for the Arabidopsis thaliana bZIP family. For the first time, we constructed a detailed model of the PmbZIP domains(R-x_(3)–N-(x)_7-R/K-x_(2)-K-x_(6)-L-x_(6)-L-_(6)-L). Phylogenetic and synteny analyses showed that PmbZIPs duplication events might have occurred during the large-scale genome duplication events. A relatively short time of speciation and the finding that 91.84% of the bZIP genes formed orthologous pairs between P. mume and Prunus armeniaca provided evidence of a close relationship. Gene expression patterns were analysed in different tissues and periods, indicating that PmbZIP genes with the same motifs exhibited similar expression patterns. The gene expression results showed that PmbZIP31/36/41 genes played a more prominent role in the response to freezing stress than cold stress. The expression level of almost all subset Ⅲ genes was upregulated under freezing treatment, especially after cold exposure. We analysed the gene expression patterns of PmbZIP12/31/36/41/48 and their responses to low-temperature stress, which provided useful resources for future studies on the cold/freezing-tolerant molecular breeding of P. mume.

Cropland elevation uplift(CLEU) has recently become a new challenge for agricultural modernization,food security,and sustainable cropland use in *** the rules of CLEU is of great theoretical and practical significance for China’s sustainable agricultural development and rural revitalization ***,existing studies lack in-depth disclosure of multi-scale CLEU evolution rules,making it difficult to support the formulation of specific cropland protection *** analyzed the spatio-temporal evolution and multiscale CLEU in China from 1980 to 2020 using the Lorenz curve,gravity center model,hotspot analysis,and cropland elevation *** results indicated that the center of gravity of cropland moved to the northeast from 1980 to 2000 and then shifted to the *** spatial distribution of cropland became increasingly imbalanced from 1980 to *** change hotspots clustered in the northwest and the northeast,whereas cold-spots were mainly in southeastern *** average elevation of cropland increased by 17.38 m,and the elevation uplift rule in different regions differed evidently across *** 1980 to 2000,all provinces except Xinjiang,Inner Mongolia,Gansu,and Yunnan exhibited CLEU,with Qinghai,Tibet,Beijing,and Guangdong showing the most noticeable *** CLEU can alleviate the shortage of cropland to some ***,without a planning constraint,the CLEU will lead to the increase of ecological risk and food security risk.

A Consistent Mistake in Remote Sensing Images’Classification Literature

Recently,the convolutional neural network(CNN)has been dom-inant in studies on interpreting remote sensing images(RSI).However,it appears that training optimization strategies have received less attention in relevant *** evaluate this problem,the author proposes a novel algo-rithm named the Fast Training CNN(FST-CNN).To verify the algorithm’s effectiveness,twenty methods,including six classic models and thirty archi-tectures from previous studies,are included in a performance *** overall accuracy(OA)trained by the FST-CNN algorithm on the same model architecture and dataset is treated as an evaluation *** show that there is a maximal OA gap of 8.35%between the FST-CNN and those methods in the literature,which means a 10%margin in ***,all those complex roadmaps,e.g.,deep feature fusion,model combination,model ensembles,and human feature engineering,are not as effective as *** reveals that there was systemic suboptimal perfor-mance in the previous *** of the CNN-based methods proposed in the previous studies show a consistent mistake,which has made the model’s accuracy lower than its potential *** most important reasons seem to be the inappropriate training strategy and the shift in data distribution introduced by data augmentation(DA).As a result,most of the performance evaluation was conducted based on an inaccurate,suboptimal,and unfair *** has made most of the previous research findings questionable to some ***,all these confusing results also exactly demonstrate the effectiveness of *** novel algorithm is model-agnostic and can be employed on any image classification model to potentially boost *** addition,the results also show that a standardized training strategy is indeed very meaningful for the research tasks of the RSI-SC.
