In recent years, debates on the alarming rate of forest depletion emanating from growth in urban settlement and changed urban land-use patterns have gained prominence across the globe. The present study adopts a demandside management approach to investigate household’s willingness-to-pay for the restoration and maintenance of protected forest reserves in three municipalities in Ghana. Using survey data of 733 households from the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, we model the demand for forest restoration and maintenance, respectively, by means of the contingent valuation technique. As part of the findings, the study shows evidence that a household is willing to pay Gh￠50.99($8.67) and Gh￠31.12($5.29) per annum to restore and maintain the protected forests,respectively. These amounts constitute less than one percent of the average household income per month.Consequently, critical validity tests are conducted to validate the robustness of the results. This study provides willingness-to-pay estimates for forest and forest resources, and its associated determinants. These estimates seek to bridge the information gap and inform policy decisions toward the overarching aim of ensuring sustainable forest management in Ghana.

研究在干磨条件下表面光洁度对氧化处理工业纯锆(CP-Zr)摩擦磨损性能的影响。CP-Zr试样经表面打磨后(R_a=0.21μm),在650℃氧化6 h。氧化后,部分试样经过抛光而取得镜面光洁度(R_a=0.04μm)。采用单向滑动试验对抛光和未抛光的氧化试样进行比较测试。结果表明,表面抛光对氧化CP-Zr的干摩擦磨损性能有较大的影响,包括磨擦因数、磨损速率、裂纹形成和氧化层破裂。表面抛光加快在干磨擦过程中半圆形裂纹的形成和氧化层的破裂。在高接触应力下,稍微粗造的氧化表面有利于减缓裂纹的形成和耐磨性的提高。并对磨损机理,包括裂纹形成、扩展和断裂进行探讨。

This paper constructs a fixed effect model to study the impact of turnover of local government officials on local air quality,and the mechanism through which this effect takes place,using data from 282 prefecture-level cities in China from 2015 to 2019.This research shows that turnover of local government officials led to a decline in local air quality,mainly due to a“responsibility gap period.”It also found that the heterogeneity of officials and the difference in the implementation of political initiatives by cities affected the length of the“responsibility gap period”-the shorter it was,the lower the air pollution was during official turnover.Air pollution in China is still severe and the Chinese central government should therefore further reform the turnover system to improve local air quality during the turnover of key local officials by shortening the“responsibility gap period.”

Addressing micronutrient deficiencies in agricultural soils to meet the growing demands of crops is a matter of great concern worldwide.The use of biosurfactant,a multifunctional microbial metabolite,to enhance nutrient availability may be a sustainable way of enhancing agricultural productivity.Biosurfactants are generally less toxic than synthetic surfactants.The application of biosurfactants in agricultural soils is anticipated to improve nutrient status,increase wettability,and achieve a more even dissemination of complex nutrients.Numerous studies have evaluated the influence of biosurfactants on bioremediation,antimicrobial activity,and soil flushing efficiency.This manuscript reviews the possibility of employing biosurfactants to mobilize and solubilize soil nutrients and make them available to plants through the formation of metal-biosurfactant complexes.Although significant progress regarding an explanation of the mechanisms behind many biosurfactant-induced effects has been made,there are still many aspects of this area that are not sufficiently elucidated,such as differences in specificity for nutrients(e.g.,Cu,Fe,Mn,and Zn)and toxins(e.g.,Cd and Pb).Biosurfactants from various isolates have been considered for their potential role in plant growth promotion and other applications related to improving the effectiveness of agricultural soils.

Coordination Mechanism and Empirical Research on Marine Science Technology Innovation and Marine Eco-civilization:A Case Study of Coastal Areas of China

Marine science technology innovation provides power and guarantees for marine eco-civilization construction,which provides direction and material support for marine science technology innovation.Therefore,the coordinated development of the two is of great significance to the marine economy sustainable development in China’s coastal areas.On the basis of clarifying the connotations of marine science technology innovation and marine eco-civilization in China’s coastal areas from 2006 to 2019,the mechanism for their coordinated development was analysed.A comprehensive indicator system based on the connotation of the two was constructed,and the coordinated development relationship was empirically tested using the coupled coordination model and the panel vector autoregressive(PVAR)model.The results show that:1)the level of China’s coastal marine science technology innovation continues to improve,gradually forming the core of the development of marine science technology innovation in the north,east and south of Shandong,Shanghai and Guangdong;the level of marine eco-civilization development fluctuating upward trend,showing obvious spatial differentiation characteristics.2)The degree of coordination of marine science technology innovation and marine eco-civilization is growing over time.There is no causal relationship between marine science technology innovation and marine eco-civilization in the northern marine economic circle,but there is a two-way causal relationship between the two in the eastern and southern marine economic circles.3)Marine eco-civilization shows a significant positive and continuous impact on marine science technology innovation,and marine science technology innovation shows a long-term,continuous,fluctuating,and lagging impact on marine eco-civilization.The overall role of marine eco-civilization on marine science technology innovation is dominant,and there are significant differences in the impact effects of the two major marine economic circles.

Soil micro-penetration resistance as an index of its infiltration processes during rainfall

Rainfall infiltration is one of the most important driving factors of geological hazards, ecological environment problems, and engineering accidents. Understanding the principle of soil wetting during rainfall infiltration and its influence on soil mechanical properties is crucial for preventing geological hazards. In this study, micro-penetration tests coupled with moisture monitoring were performed to investigate the infiltration process during wetting through the measured change in mechanical characteristics. Results show that penetration resistance increases in the deep layer gradually. With increasing infiltration time,the wetting front keeps moving downward, and its range becomes wider. A slight increase of the penetration resistance in the shallow layer(d ≤ 17.5 mm) is observed. However, the penetration resistance in the middle layer(22.5 mm ≤ d ≤ 32.5 mm) decreases firstly before a slight increase. In the deep layer(d ≥ 37.5 mm), the penetration resistance decreases continuously during infiltration. Based on the measured water content profile during infiltration, it is found that the evolution of soil mechanical characteristics is fully responsible by the infiltration-induced re-distribution of water content along depth. Generally, the penetration resistance decreases exponentially with increasing water content in the soil. When the water content is low, wetting can weaken soil strength significantly, whereas this effect diminishes when the moisture surpasses a certain threshold. The results highlight that the penetration curves and water content profile show close inter-dependency and consistency, which verifies the feasibility of using micro-penetration to investigate rainfall infiltration and wetting process in surface soil layer or laboratory small-scale soil samples. This method enables fast, versatile and high-resolution measurements of infiltration process and moisture distribution in soil.

Old residential area regeneration has long been integral to China's urban planning,construction,and governance.This paper divides its history in China into four periods based on the policy and its positioning in the socio-economic pattern:slow development as a non-productive sector(1949to late 1970s),housing marketization under unified planning(late 1970s to early 2000s),a livelihood-oriented transitional period(early 2000s to early 2010s),and a large-scale comprehensive project(early 2010s to the present).It summarizes the positioning,purpose,type,actor,and research characteristics in each period and points out that the old residential area regeneration in China has always been in dynamic interaction between the state,market,and society,presenting complicated characteristics.This process is like a pendulum oscillating between the dual attributes of urban regeneration and housing policies,and relevant studies exploring the Chinese path since 1949 are featured by pragmatism and policy implication.

The excessive accumulation of potentially toxic metals(Pb and Cd)in coastal wetlands is among the main factors threateningwetland ecosystems.However,the effects ofwater table depth(WTD)on the risk and binding mechanisms of potentially toxic metals in sediments remain unclear.Here,sediments from different WTD obtained from a typical coastal wetland were evaluated using a newly developed strategy based on chemical extraction methods coupled with high-resolution spectroscopy.Our findings indicated that the WTD of the coastal wetland fluctuates frequently and the average enrichment factor for Pb was categorized as minor,whereas Cd enrichment was categorized as moderate.High-resolution spectroscopy techniques also demonstrated that organic functional groups and partly inorganic compounds(e.g.,Fe-O/Si-O)played a vital role in the binding of Pb and Cd to surface sediments.Additionally,mineral components rather than organic groups were mainly bound to thesemetals in the bottom sediments.Collectively,our findings provide key insights into the potential health effects and binding characteristics of potentially toxic metals in sediments,as well as their dynamic behavior under varying sediment depths at a microscale.

文明演变的原因曾经引起了学者们的普遍关注,新制度经济学用新古典的市场经济模型很好地解释了产业革命后西欧的兴起,却不能解释东方文明的兴衰与作为现代文明标志的产业革命的爆发本身。本文用公共经济制度变迁来解释人类文明的本质,用公共经济效率的改进来考察人类文明的诞生,并用公共产品需求结构的变迁对强制性公共经济制度变迁的推动作用来解释农耕文明向工业文明的演变。本文的结论指出,公共经济制度在大众民主和精英宪政之间的摇摆则解释了现代经济危机的频繁发生与现代文明的停滞不前。

Evolution and influencing factors of the transnational investment network of China–Africa international cooperation parks

Based on development data relating to China–Africa International Cooperation Parks(CAICPs)from 2003 to 2018,this study examined the transnational investment network of CAICPs using the social network analysis method.The number of CAICPs is increasing.Textiles and apparel,agricultural and food processing,trade logistics and management,building materials and construction,and electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing are the leading industries chosen by most CAICPs.These parks have promoted the economic and social development of African countries,driving the urbanization of the regions in which the parks are located,and they have also benefited China.The network of CAICPs involves China,African countries,and third-party investors.The network is becoming increasingly complex and has an increasingly high density.However,the key node countries and provincial units remain relatively stable despite changes in the network structure.The center of gravity of the network has shown noticeable deviations and regression,and inter-provincial investment cooperation has also been increasing.China–Africa cooperation drives the evolution of the network.In China,the investment of enterprises in Africa is affected by domestic policy,economic pursuit,and investment security.In Africa,the development of CAICPs is driven by development policies and achievements,and it is influenced by African countries’business environments.
