Even more fascinating than its bulk parent,a water droplet possesses extraordinary catalytic and hydro-voltaic capability,elastic adaptivity,hydrophobicity,sensitivity,thermal stability,etc.,but the underlying mechanism is still *** emphasize herewith that the H‒O bond follows the universal bond order‒length‒strength cor-relation and nonbonding electron polarization regulation and the hydrogen bond cooperativity and polarizability notion regulates the performance of the coupling hydrogen bond(O:H‒O).Computational and spectrometric evidence consistently shows that molecular undercoordination shortens the intramolecular H‒O bond by up to 10%while lengthening the intermolecular O:H nonbond by 20%cooperatively with an association of electron polarization,making the 0.3-nm thick droplet skin of a supersolid phase of *** supersolid skin dictates the performance and functionality of the droplet in chemical,dielectric,electrical,mechanical,optical,and thermal properties as well as the transport dynamics of electrons and *** amplification of these findings could deepen our insight into the undercoordi-nated aqueous systems,including bubbles and molecular clusters,and promote deep engineering of water and ice.

This study seeks to determine the similarities in plume radiation between reduced and full-scale solid rocket models in ground test conditions through investigation of flow and radiation for a series of scale ratios ranging from 0.1 to 1. The radiative transfer equation (RTE) considering gas and particle radiation in a non-uniform plume has been adopted and solved by the finite volume method (FVM) to compute the three dimensional, spectral and directional radiation of a plume in the infrared waveband 2-6 mu m. Conditions at wavelengths 2.7 mu m and 4.3 mu m are discussed in detail, and ratios of plume radiation for reduced-scale through full-scale models are examined. This work shows that, with increasing scale ratio of a computed rocket motor, area of the high-temperature core increases as a 2 power function of the scale ratio, and the radiation intensity of the plume increases with 2-2.5 power of the scale ratio. The infrared radiation of plume gases shows a strong spectral dependency, while that of Al2O3 particles shows spectral continuity of gray media. Spectral radiation intensity of a computed solid rocket plume's high temperature core increases significantly in peak radiation spectra of plume gases CO and CO2 center dot Al2O3 particles are the major radiation component in a rocket plume. There is good similarity between contours of plume spectral radiance from different scale models of computed rockets, and there are two peak spectra of radiation intensity at wavebands 2.7-3.0 lm and 4.2-4.6 lm. Prediction of the cross-sections of isotopes produced in deuteron-induced spallation of long-lived fission products

The spallation cross-section data for the long-lived fission products (LLFPs) are scarce but required for the design of accelerator driven systems. In this paper, the isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model and the statistical code GEMINI are applied to simulate deuteron-induced spallation in the energy region of GeV/nucleon. By comparing the calculations with the experimental data, the applicability of the model is verified. The model is then applied to simulate the spallation of 90Sr, 93Zr, 107Pd, and 137Cs induced by deuterons at 200, 500 and 1000 MeV/nucleon. The cross-sections of isotopes, the cross-sections of long-lived nuclei, and the reaction energy are presented. Using the above observables, the feasibility of LLFP transmutation by spallation is discussed.

Constraining symmetry energy at subnormal density by isovector giant dipole resonances of spherical nuclei

In our previous study, the deduced Langevin equation has been applied to investigate the isoscalar giant monopole resonance. In the current study, the framework is extended to study the isovector giant dipole resonance(IVGDR). The potential well in the IVGDR is calculated by separating the neutron and proton densities based on the Hartree-Fock ground state. Subsequently, the Langevin equation is solved self-consistently, resulting in the centroid energy of the IVGDR without width. The symmetry energy around the density of 0.02 fm^-3 contributes the most to the potential well in the IVGDR. By comparison with the updated experimental data of IVGDR energies in spherical nuclei, the calculations within 37 sets of Skyrme functionals suggest the symmetry energy to be in the range of 8.13-9.54 MeV at a density of 0.02 fm^-3.

Nanotwins form in many metallic materials to improve their strength and *** this study,we thoroughly studied the alloying effects of 10 common metal and nonmetal elements on Cu nanotwins by density functional theory(DFT).We calculated the segregation energies to determine if Cu nanotwins attract both the metal and nonmetal alloying elements;these segregation energies were then decomposed to mechanical and chemical *** Cu-Sn bonds are different from other metal alloying elements,and the strong bond between Cu and the nonmetal element results in the negative values of the chemical ***,the temperature and concentration have different effects on the nanotwin formation energy of the metal and nonmetal alloying *** determined by the Generalized Stacking Fault Energy,Al and nonmetals can inhibit the migration of Cu nanotwin boundary,and the effects of Li,Mg,and Sn are *** theoretical study serves as the foundation for the engineering nanotwin structures through alloying elements,the elements that may lead to new alloy compositions and thermomechanical processes,and are important complements to the experimental research.

Graphene-like(GL) materials have enriched the application prospects of two-dimensional materials by virtue of their various structures and properties. However, the following theoretical issues remain unsolved: how can stable GL materials exist and is plate idealization valid for any GL materials? Here we answer these questions based on an atomistic potential-based *** existence criteria for GL materials with three common structures, including planar honeycomb(PH), buckled honeycomb(BH), and honeycomb MX_2(2 H-MX_2) structures, were established. Moreover, the validity of classic linear-elastic plate models for these materials was examined. A validity factor, which represents the validity of using thin plate models to investigate the overall mechanical response of GL sheets, was defined. We determined that 2 H-MX_2 sheets can approximately be modeled as thin plates for arbitrary loadings, unlike PH and BH sheets.

The ＂island of inversion＂ has been known for over a quar- ter century, since Warburton et al. [1] proposed that nuclei with intruder ground states would constitute a 3x3 square with Z=10-12, N=20-22 in 1990. Uncovering the underlying inversion mechanism and exploring the scope of the island have attracted significant theoretical and experimental efforts in the following years. Now it is well known that the reduction of N=20 shell gap, which is likely caused by the strong nucleon-nucleon tensor interaction [2-5], allows the intrusion of neutron orbits from the pf shell into the sd shell and results in the inversion of the 2p-2h intruder and 0p-0h normal con- figurations of the nuclear ground states in this region. Mean- while, the original border of the ＂island of inversion＂ has been extended greatly [6-14].

Rare-earth AB5-type La-Ni-Al hydrogen storage alloys are widely studied due to their extensive application potentials in hydrogen isotope storage,hydrogen isotope isolation and hydrogen compressors,*** hydriding/dehydriding kinetics,easily activation,high reversibility are important factors for their practical ***,their overall hydrogen storage performance,especially plateau pressure and hydrogen absorption/desorption durability need to be further *** this study,the microstructures and the hydrogen storage properties of as-cast,annealed,and melt-spun LaNi3.95Al0.75Co0.3alloys were *** experimental results of XRD and SEM showed that all alloys contained a pure CaCu5type hexagonal structure LaNi4Al *** cell volume increased in an order of annealed> melt-spun> as-cast,resulting in a lower hydrogen absorption/desorption plateau pressure and a more stable hydride *** hydrogen storage capacity of three alloys was almost the *** slope factor of the annealed and melt-spun alloys is smaller than the as-cast alloy,indicating that heat-treatment process can make the alloys more *** the cycle stability of the alloys,the hydrogen absorption rate of the annealed alloy and melt-spun alloy was much faster than that of the as-cast alloy after 500 *** melt-spun alloy showed high pulverization resistance during hydrogen absorption/desorption,and exhibited an excellent cycling retention of 99% after 500 cycles,suggesting that melt-spinning process can enhance the cycle stability and improve the cycle life of the alloy.

A dynamical description of the ^(136)Xe+p spallation at 1000 MeV/nucleon

We propose a dynamical description of the ^(136)Xe + p spallation at 1000 MeV/nucleon with the aim of probing the mechanism which rules the production of intermediate-mass fragments(IMF). The isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics(IQMD) model is used to describe the dynamical process of spallation until hot fragments with excitation energy less than a certain value E_(stop) are formed. The statistical code GEMINI is applied to simulate the light-particle evaporation from hot fragments. It is found that IMF production is well described by the model when E_(stop)= 2 MeV/nucleon is used. Comparison of the calculated mean neutron-to-proton ratio and the experimental data indicates that E_(stop) should be 3 MeV/nucleon.
