The previous study conducted by Li(2022)demonstrates that the Goda graph can be adequately represented by a solitary-wave-like form across the entire range of relative water depth,with the exception of the extremely shallow ***,it remains uncertain whether this form is equally effective when applied to test data generated by irregular waves,as the Goda graph was initially developed based on overtopping data from regular wave ***,it is unclear whether this form is suitable for formulating overtopping discharge at composite vertical *** order to address these questions,a 2D overtopping experiment was conducted,incorporating both simple and composite types of vertical walls,with various relative water depths across the entire range,excluding the extremely shallow zone.A novel analysis procedure was developed,which proved to be highly productive and can be considered a general method for data ***,the study yielded two conclusions:(1)the solitary-wave-like form is remarkably effective in formulating overtopping test data generated by irregular waves,regardless of whether the vertical wall is simple or composite,and(2)the resulting formulas exhibit definitely better performance compared with existing formulas.

An empirical formula to predict overtopping discharge of vertical wall is presented,in which an expression similar to the solitary wave function is proposed to describe the rule of the influence of relative water *** formula is derived from performing an investigation to the well-known overtopping graphs of Goda,and for the sake of interest,the process of the derivation is *** make clear the formula’s performance,relevant test datasets in the CLASH database are extracted to examine the error levels of the *** a result,an overall good agreement has been found between the predictions of the formula and the extracted datasets in a wide range outside the extreme shallow region,i.e.,the range of relative water depth smaller than 0.6,in which the water depth near the wall is so shallow that nearly all the incoming waves have been broken before reaching the wall.

A method is presented to calculate the resistance of a high-speed displacement ship taking the effect of sinkage and trim and viscosity of fluid into account.A free surface flow field is evaluated by solving Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations with volume of fluid(VoF) *** sinkage and trim are computed by equating the vertical force and pitching moment to the hydrostatic restoring force and *** software Fluent,Maxsurf and MATLAB are used to implement this *** dynamic mesh being used,the position of a ship is updated by the motion of "ship plus boundary layer" grid *** hull factors are introduced for fast calculating the running attitude of a *** method has been applied to the ship model INSEAN2340 for different Froude numbers and is found to be efficient for evaluating the flow field,resistance,sinkage and trim.

The main objective of this study is to numerically investigate the characteristics of ultimate compressive strength of stiffened panels with opening and also to fit the design-oriented formulae. For this purpose, three series of well executed experimental data on longitudinally stiffened steel plates with and without opening subjected to the uniform axial in-pane load which is carried out to study the buckling and post-buckling up to the final failure are chosen. Also, a nonlinear finite element method capable of efficiently analyzing the large elasto-plastic deflection behavior of stiffened panels is developed and used for simulation. The feasibility of the present simulation process is confirmed by a good agreement with the experimental results. More case studies are developed employing the simulation process to analyze the influence of various design variables on the reduction rate of ultimate strength of stiffened panel induced by opening. Based on the computed results, two design formulae are fitted and the accuracy of design formulae is studied. Furthermore, the viability of the design formulae for practical engineering is proved.

Experiments were conducted for developing suitable ANG adsorbents for vehicular ***-101 and activated carbon samples were respectively prepared by hydrothermal and chemical activation *** samples were undergone structure analysis on adsorption data of nitrogen at 77.15 K,and adsorption data of methane were then volumetrically measured within temperature-pressure range 293.15 K-313.15 K and 0-8 MPa.A conformable vessel in volume 2.5 L was employed for charge/discharge tests under the flow rate 10-30 L·min^-*** shows that limit isostreic heat of methane adsorption is respectively about 25.15 k J·mol^-1 and22.94 k J·mol^-1 on the activated carbon and the MIL-101,and isosteric heat within the experimental condition is 14-19.5 k J·mol^-1;employing a smaller charge/discharge flow rate can weaken the temperature fluctuation of the adsorbent bed and increase the charge/discharge amount;employing honeycomb heat exchanging device enhance the thermal conductivity of the adsorbent bed by consuming a negligible part of volume of the *** suggests that a smaller flow rate for charge/discharge should be employed,and MOFs together with the honeycomb heat exchanging device are promising for practical applications.

The Polar Regions are rich in natural resources but experience an extremely cold *** surfaces of offshore platforms operating in the Polar Regions are prone to *** develop solutions to this problem of surface icing,the influence of both the liquid water concentration of the surrounding atmosphere and the average water droplet diameter on the formation of ice on two major structural components of offshore platforms was analyzed using a combination of Fluent and *** showed that at a wind speed of 7 m/s,as the concentration of liquid water in the air increases from 0.05 to 0.25 g/m3,the amount and thickness of the icing on the surfaces of the two structural components increase *** a wind speed of 7 m/s and when the size of the average water droplet diameter is 20–30(30–35)μm,as the average water droplet diameter increases,the amount and thickness of the icing on the surfaces of the two structural components increase(decrease)gradually.

Very large floating structures (VLFS) have an extremely large size of several kilometers in length, thus, the environment at one end of the platform may be different from that at the other end. The importance of such an inhomogeneous environment to the hydroelastic response of a VLFS is of obvious concern for practical application. Some studies have been carried out to investigate the effects of shoreline proximity, breakwaters and harbor walls. In this paper, the impact of the variable depth on the hydroelastic responses of a VLFS is investigated. For simplicity, an ascending plane slope is taken to simulate the varying bottom although the method is capable of treating a bottom of arbitrary variation. The long wave theory and the thin plate theory are employed to model the wave field and the mat-like VLFS respectively. The finite difference method is used to numerically solve the boundary value problem. The results for the zero inclination slope are compared with experimental data and an analytical method to validate the present numerical method. Finally the effect of the inclination of the slope on reflection and transmission coefficients and plate deflections are investigated thoroughly.

Risk Based Optimal Inspection and Repair Planning for Ship Structures Subjected to Corrosion Deterioration

A framework of risk based inspection and repair planning was presented to optimize for the ship structures subjected to corrosion deterioration. The planning problem was formulated as an optimization problem where the expected lifetime costs were minimized with a constraint on the minimum acceptable reliability index. The safety margins were established for the inspection events, the repair events and the failure events for ship structures. Moreover, the formulae were derived to calculate failure probabilities and repair probabilities. Based on them, a component subjected to corrosion is investigated for illustration of the process of selecting the optimal inspection and repair strategy. Furthermore, some sensitivity studies were provided. The results show that the optimal inspection instants should take place before the reliability index reaches the minimum acceptable reliability index. The optimal target failure probability is 10 -3 . In addition, a balance can be achieved between the risk cost and total expected inspection and repair costs by means of the risk-based optimal inspection and repair method, which is very effective in selecting the optimal inspection and repair strategy.
