The rumen is the hallmark organ of ruminants and hosts a diverse ecosystem of microorganisms that facilitates efficient digestion of plant *** analyzed 897 transcriptomes from three Cetartiodactyla lineages:ruminants,camels and cetaceans,as well as data from ruminant comparative genomics and functional assays to explore the genetic basis of rumen functional *** identified genes with relatively high expression in the rumen,of which many appeared to be recruited from other *** genes show functional enrichment in ketone body metabolism,regulation of microbial community,and epithelium absorption,which are the most prominent biological processes involved in rumen *** modes of genetic change underlying rumen functional innovations were uncovered,including coding mutations,genes newly evolved,and changes of regulatory *** validated that the key ketogenesis rate-limiting gene(HMGCS2)with five ruminant-specific mutations was under positive selection and exhibits higher synthesis activity than those of other *** newly evolved genes(LYZ1 and DEFB1)are resistant to Gram-positive bacteria and thereby may regulate microbial community ***,we confirmed that the changes of regulatory elements accounted for the majority of rumen gene *** results greatly improve our understanding of rumen evolution and organ evo-devo in general.

Uncontrolled overload is one of the major causes of the system's decline in reliability and performance for web *** also harms the construction of trustworthy *** paper presents a degradationbased mechanism to adaptively control overload in complex,dynamic web *** our mechanism,the bottlenecks in the application's performance are determined by internally monitoring the performance and resource utilization state of the application,which is decomposed into a set of *** locating the bottlenecks,two decision algorithms are proposed to dynamically and adaptively generate proper degradation plans without *** degrading the service which consumes critical resources and has a low priority from the perspective of business logic,the application can keep providing key services even when overload *** implement a prototype and conduct a case study on a wiki *** also evaluate our approach and demonstrate its effectiveness in simulated overload *** handling overload,we make a breakthrough in building trustworthy software in an open,dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

Land use reflects human activities on *** land use is the highest level human alteration on Earth,and it is rapidly changing due to population increase and *** areas have widespread effects on local hydrology,climate,biodiversity,and food production[1,2].However,maps,that contain knowledge on the distribution,pattern and composition of various land use types in urban areas,are limited to city *** mapping standard on data sources,methods,land use classification schemes varies from city to city,due to differences in financial input and skills of mapping *** address various national and global environmental challenges caused by urbanization,it is important to have urban land uses at the national and global scales that are derived from the same or consistent data sources with the same or compatible classification systems and mapping *** is because,only with urban land use maps produced with similar criteria,consistent environmental policies can be made,and action efforts can be compared and assessed for large scale environmental ***,despite of the fact that a number of urban-extent maps exist at global scales[3,4],more detailed urban land use maps do not exist at the same *** at big country or regional levels such as for the United States,China and European Union,consistent land use mapping efforts are rare[5,6](e.g.,https://***/open_land_use/).

Evaluation of different primers of the 18S rRNA gene to profile amoeba communities in environmental samples

Amoeboid protists,an assemblage of organisms belonging to different phylogenetic lineages,have drawn increasing attention due to their crucial ecological roles in various environments and their potential health ***,18S rRNA gene sequencing is widely applied for the detection of ***,it is not clear which is the best primer pair for 18S rRNA gene amplification in *** study compared the four most commonly used primer pairs for revealing the diversity,composition,core species,and community assembly processes of amoebae in water and *** found that the choice of primers artificially influences the detection of community composition of *** also found that short-read fragments may lead to mismatches in taxonomy and were not suitable for phylogenetic *** contrast,full-length primers could detect the highest number of amoeba lineages and annotate 80%of reads belonging to amoebae to known ***,full-length primers did not detect as many amoeba species as V4 ***,we showed that beta diversity and community assembly determination were largely unaffected by primer choice,but different primers could influence our interpretations of the ecological process underlying stochasticity and *** study indicates that full-length read sequencing and V4 region Illumina sequencing are suitable for profiling amoeba diversity in the environment.

Os isotope dating and growth hiatuses of Co-rich crust from central Pacific

Up to now, accurate determination of the growth age and hiatuses of the Co-rich crust is still a difficult work, which constrains the researches on the genesis, growth process, controlling factors, regional tectonics, paleo-oceanographic background, etc. of the Co-rich crust. This paper describes our work in determining the initial growth age of the Co-rich crust to be of the late Cretaceous Campanian Stage (about 75-80 Ma), by selecting the Co-rich crust with clear multi-layer structures in a central Pacific seamount for layer-by-layer sample analysis and using a number of chronological methods, such as Co flux dating, dating by correlation with 187Os/188Os evolution curves of seawater, and stratigraphic divi- sion by calcareous nannofossils. We have also discovered growth hiatuses with different time intervals in the early Paleocene, middle Eocene, late Eocene and early-middle Miocene, respectively. These re- sults have provided an important age background for further researches on the Co-rich crust growth process and the paleo-oceanographic environment evolution thereby revealed in the said region.

Hybrid adsorbents for COcapture were prepared by coassembling laponite（LP） nanosheets and 1-nbutyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride（BMIMCl）. The prepared BMIMCl/LP layered hybrids were systematically characterized. The interlayer distance of the BMIMCl/LP layered hybrids expanded with an increasing concentration of BMIMCl, indicating that cumulative BMIMCl was intercalated into the LP layers. The efficiency of BMIMCl toward COcapture was significantly enhanced after it was immobilized within LP layers.

Synthesis of Bi_2S_3 microsphere and its efficient photocatalytic activity under visible-light irradiation

A novel Bi2S3 microsphere was fabricated through one-pot urea-assisted solvothermal *** synthesized Bi2S3 microsphere was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)and thermal gravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis(DTA-TG).Subsequently,the photocatalytic performances of Bi2S3 microsphere were evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange(MO)simulation solution under visible-light *** results show that,Bi2S3 microsphere could be used as a potential cost-efficient catalysis for eliminating of methyl orange from aqueous solutions,whose degradation rate could reach 91.07%within 180 ***,a tentative photocatalytic reaction mechanism was discussed according to the energy band ***,this work indicated a simplistic approach for the fabrication of visible-light responsive Bi2S3 microsphere photocatalyst,which can be used as a valuable candidate in solar energy conversion and environment pollution treatment.
