The effects of rod falling and moving, external flow field, boiling film and radiation were investigated on fluid flow and heat transfer of AISI 4140 steel horizontal rod during direct quenching by mathematical modeling. The flow field and heat transfer in quenching tank were simulated by computational fluid dynamics （CFD） method considering falling and moving of rods during process. Therefore, modeling of flow field was done by a fixed-mesh method for general moving objects equations, and then, energy equation was solved with a numerical approach so that effeet of boiling film heat flux was considered as a source term in energy equation for solid-liquid boundary. Simulated results were verified by comparing with published and experimental data and there was a good agreement between them. Also, the effects of external forced flow and film boiling were investigated on heat flux output, temperature distribution and heat transfer coefficient of rod. Also simulated results determined optimum quenching time for this process.

Offshore jack up platform rack steel must exhibit high strength and toughness as well as excellent welding properties. A high-quality large ingot is a prerequisite for obtaining a high-performance rough part. The electroslag remelting withdrawing （ESRW） technology using a T-shaped mold and bifilar mode was introduced to replace casting technology. Numerical simulation of the ESRW process was performed to determine the distribution of the temperature and velocity fields and to determine the optimum process for producing rack steels. Several A514Q slab ingots with dimensions of 0.32 m×1.40 m × 4.00 m were produced using ESRW technology in an industrial plant. The industrial test indicated that slab ingots produced by the ESRW method exhibited uniform chemical compositions and compact macrostructures. A 115.4 mm thick plate was produced from the rough ingot after 11 roiling passes. Samples were obtained from different positions in the steel plate to test the mechanical performance and examine the microstructure, and the results revealed that the properties of the steel plate satisfied ASTM standards. The ESRW process improved the tensile strength and toughness of the slab ingot, enabling significant improvements in the anisotropy and low temperature toughness, which are critical for the development of rack steel for offshore platforms.

Secondary Crystallization of Na_2CO_3-Modified HZSM-5 Zeolites with Tetrapropylammonium Hydroxide and Their Catalytic Performance in Thiophene Alkylation Reaction

The Na2CO3-modified HZSM-5 zeolites were further treated by tetrapropylammonium hydroxide(TPAOH) solution. The effect of TPAOH concentration on the secondary crystallization process was investigated. The resulting samples were characterized by a complementary combination of X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption/desorption, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, XPS, 27 Al and 29 Si magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, BET and temperature-programmed desorption techniques. The results showed that the secondary crystallization of the HZSM-5 zeolite could result in migration of non-framework species from the internal channels to the zeolite surface and their transformation into framework species. The catalytic activity of these modified samples for thiophene alkylation was evaluated. Both the activity and stability of the catalysts were improved after secondary crystallization.

Zeolite NaA was successfully prepared from nickel laterite residue for the first time via a fusion-hydrothermal procedure. The structure and morphology of the as-synthesized zeolite NaA were characterized with a range of experimental techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy. It was revealed that the structures of the produced zeolites were dependent on the molar ratios of the reactants and hydrothermal reaction conditions, so the synthesis conditions were optimized to obtain pure zeolite NaA. Adsorption of nitrogen and carbon dioxide on the prepared zeolite NaA was also measured and analyzed. The results showed that zeolite NaA could be prepared with reasonable purity, it had physicochemical properties comparable with zeolite NaA made from other methods, and it had excellent gas adsorption properties, thus demonstrating that zeolite NaA could be prepared from nickel laterite residue.

The mechanical properties of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets processed by different extrusion strain paths were examined in correlation with concurrent microstructure and texture evolution. The conventional extrusion（CE） and asymmetric extrusion（ASE） paths were performed on Mg alloy sheets. The textures at near surface and mid-layer of ASE sheets were various throughout sheet thickness direction as a result of extra asymmetric shear strain. This can stimulate the orientation of（0002） basal planes to incline approximately 12° toward the shear direction. Moreover, the basal texture of ASE sheet was weakened compared with CE one. Enhancing the ambient formability of extruded Mg alloy sheet fabricated by ASE path was accomplished by the tilted weak basal texture.

The crystallization and heat transfer of CaO-SiO2-based slag for high-Mn-high-Al steel have been investigated by coupling composition evolution with heat transfer and non-isothermal tests.It was found that the concentrations of Al2O3 and MnO in the slag were determined by the relative contents of Al and Mn in molten steel.Crystallization temperature of the slag rose with the increase in Al2O3 content first and then fell due to the coupled effects of basicity and Al2O3,and a small amount of MnO cannot change this trend.High viscosity of slags led to less obvious characterizations of crystallization.The crystalline phase analysis suggested that MnO accumulation suppressed the formation of fluorite crystals.As the Al2O3 content increased,the precipitation of cuspidine was replaced by the blocky gehlenite crystals,while the number and the size of nepheline and fluorite crystals both increased.According to the thickness and the crystallization structure of slags,the heat flux in the slag film first decreased and then increased with higher Al2O3 accumulation.Then,a new type of CaO-SiO2-based mold slag with high basicity was applied in plant trial,and the change in composition and properties of mold slag was studied.

Taking the electroslag remelting with pipe electrode(ESR-PE)and electroslag remelting with solid electrode(ESR-SE)as the research objects,a two-dimensional steady-state mathematical model of coupled electromagnetic field equation,energy equation,and flow equation was established.The distribution of its current density,Joule heat,flow field,and temperature field was compared and the difference of their molten metal pool was analyzed.The results show that compared with those of ESR-SE,current density distribution and Joule heating area of ESR-PE are mainly concentrated in the inner and outer wall areas of the electrode tip,while the Joule heat generated in the central area of the slag pool is less.In the ESR-PE,the slag flows from the outside of the electrode to the hollow area of the electrode,which makes the temperature distribution in the slag pool is more uniform.Affected by the Joule heating area and flow field,the heat of ESR-SE is concentrated below the electrode in the slag pool area and it transfers from the center to the periphery.However,in the ESR-PE,the heat is concentrated near the inner and outer walls of the electrode tip,and the heat is transferred from the periphery to the center of the slag pool.The molten metal pool depth of ESR-SE is 0.1188 m and that of ESR-PE is 0.0962 m.Compared with that of ESR-SE,the molten metal pool of ESR-PE is shallower and flatter.

Model Algorithm Research on Cooling Path Control of Hot-rolled Dual-phase Steel

With the development of advanced high strength steel,especially for dual-phase steel,the model algorithm for cooling control after hot rolling has to achieve the targeted coiling temperature control at the location of downcoiler whilst maintaining the cooling path control based on strip microstructure along the whole cooling section.A cooling path control algorithm was proposed for the laminar cooling process as a solution to practical difficulties associated with the realization of the thermal cycle during cooling process.The heat conduction equation coupled with the carbon diffusion equation with moving boundary was employed in order to simulate temperature change and phase transformation kinetics,making it possible to observe the temperature field and the phase fraction of the strip in real time.On this basis,an optimization method was utilized for valve settings to ensure the minimum deviations between the predicted and actual cooling path of the strip,taking into account the constraints of the cooling equipment′s specific capacity,cooling line length,etc.Results showed that the model algorithm was able to achieve the online cooling path control for dual-phase steel.
