Parkinson's disease(PD) has a complex and multifactorial pathophysiology. Various studies, conducted both in pre-clinical models and PD patients, have reported a link between the disruption of calcium(Ca^(2+)) homeostasis and the subsequent development of PD. Ca^(2+) regulation is crucial for neuronal survival, differentiation,exocytosis at synapses,gene transcription,and proliferation.

In this paper we consider the Markov-dependent risk model with tax payments in which the claim occurrence, the claim amount as well as the tax rate are controlled by an irreducible discrete-time Markov chain. Systems of integro-differential equations satisfied by the expected discounted tax payments and the non-ruin probability in terms of the ruin probabilities under the Markov-dependent risk model without tax are established. The analytical solutions of the systems of integro-differential equations are also obtained by the iteration method.

This paper considers the effect of the anisotropic surface tension on the morphological stability of the planar interface during directional solidification. When the expression exhibiting the four-fold symmetry is included, the modified absolute stability criterion is obtained by employing the multi-variable expansion method. The linear stability analysis reveals that for the given temperature gradient, as the anisotropic surface tension parameter increases, the stability zone tends to decrease.

Control charts are commonly used tools in statistical process control for the detection of shifts in process parameters. Shewhart-type charts are efficient for large shift values, whereas cumulative sum(CUSUM) charts are effective in detecting medium and small shifts. Control chart use commonly assumes that data are free of outliers and parameters are known or correctly estimated based on an in-control process. In practice, these assumptions are not often true because some processes occasionally have outliers. Monitoring the location parameter is usually based on mean charts, which are seriously affected by violations of these assumptions. In this paper we propose several CUSUM median control charts based on auxiliary variables, and offer comparisons with their corresponding mean control charts. To monitor the location parameter, we examined the performance of mean and median control charts in the presence and absence of outliers. Both symmetric and non-symmetric processes were studied to examine the properties of the proposed control charts to monitor the location parameter using CUSUM control charts. We used different run length measures to study in-control and out-of-control performances of CUSUM charts. Results revealed that our proposed control charts perform much better than the traditional charts in the presence of outliers. A real application of our study was provided using data on concrete compressive strength as it relates to the quality of cement manufacturing.

This paper is concerned with the initial-boundary value problem for damped wave equations with a nonlinear convection term in the multi-dimensional half space R n ＋： u tt u ＋ u t ＋ divf （u） = 0, t 〉 0, x = （x 1 , x ′ ） ∈ R n ＋：= R ＋ × R n 1 , u（0, x） = u 0 （x） → u ＋ , as x 1 → ＋ ∞ , u t （0, x） = u 1 （x）, u（t, 0, x ′ ） = u b , x ′ = （x 2 , x 3 , ··· , x n ） ∈ R n 1 . （I） For the non-degenerate case f ′ 1 （u ＋）〈 0, it was shown in [10] that the above initialboundary value problem （I） admits a unique global solution u（t, x） which converges to the corresponding planar stationary wave φ（x 1 ） uniformly in x 1 ∈ R ＋ as time tends to infinity provided that the initial perturbation and/or the strength of the stationary wave are sufficiently small. And in [10] Ueda, Nakamura, and Kawashima proved the algebraic decay estimates of the tangential derivatives of the solution u（t, x） for t → ＋ ∞ by using the space-time weighted energy method initiated by Kawashima and Matsumura [5] and improved by Nishihkawa [7]. Moreover, by using the same weighted energy method, an additional algebraic convergence rate in the normal direction was obtained by assuming that the initial perturbation decays algebraically. We note, however, that the analysis in [10] relies heavily on the assumption that f ′ （u）〈 0. The main purpose of this paper isdevoted to discussing the case of f ′ 1 （u b ） ≥ 0 and we show that similar results still hold for such a case. Our analysis is based on some delicate energy estimates.

The problem of steady laminar magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） mixed con- vection stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a vertical stretch- ing sheet is studied. The effect of an externally magnetic field is taken into account. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically by using an implicit finite-difference scheme. Numerical results are obtained for various values of the mixed convection parameter, Hartmann number, and Prandtl number. The effects of an exter- nally magnetic field on the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity, and temperature profiles for both A 〉 1 and A ~ 1, where A is the velocity ratio parameter, are presented graphically and discussed in detail. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered, and it is found that dual solutions exist for the opposing flow.
