Sufficient conditions are presented for super/weak Poincare inequalities to hold for a class of hypoelliptic operators on noncom.act manifolds. As applications, the essential spectrum and the convergence rate of the associated Markov semigroup are described for Gruschin type operators on R2 and Kohn-Laplacian type operators on the Heisenberg group.

In this paper, we study some functional inequalities （such as Poincar@ inequality, loga- rithmic Sobolev inequality, generalized Cheeger isoperimetric inequality, transportation-information inequality and transportation-entropy inequality） for reversible nearest-neighbor Markov processes on connected finite graphs by means of （random） path method. We provide estimates of the involved constants.

The growth of dendrites and the side reactions occurring at the Zn anode pose significant challenges to the com.ercialization of aqueous Zn-ion batteries（AZIBs）. These challenges arise from the inherent conflict between mass transfer and electrochemical kinetics. In this study, we propose the use of a multifunctional electrolyte additive based on the xylose（Xylo） molecule to address these issues by modulating the solvation structure and electrode/electrolyte interface, thereby stabilizing the Zn anode. The introduction of the additive alters the solvation structure, creating steric hindrance that impedes charge transfer and then reduces electrochemical kinetics. Furthermore, in-situ analyses demonstrate that the reconstructed electrode/electrolyte interface facilitates stable and rapid Zn2+ion migration and suppresses corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions. As a result, symmetric cells incorporating the Xylo additive exhibit significantly enhanced reversibility during the Zn plating/stripping process, with an impressively long lifespan of up to 1986 h, com.ared to cells using pure ZnSO4electrolyte. When com.ined with a polyaniline cathode, the full cells demonstrate improved capacity and long-term cyclic stability. This work offers an effective direction for improving the stability of Zn anode via electrolyte design, as well as highperformance AZIBs.

Coagulation followed by floc separation is a key process for the removal of algal organic matter(AOM) in water treatment. Besides optimizing coagulation parameters,knowledge of the properties of AOM-flocs is essential to maximizing AOM ***, the impact of AOM on the floc properties remains unclear. This study investigated how peptides/proteins derived from the cellular organic matter(com. of the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa influenced the size, structure, and shape of flocs formed at different shear rates(G). Flocs formed by kaolinite, com.peptides/proteins and a mixture of the same were studied, and the effect of intermolecular interactions between floc com.onents on floc properties was assessed. The coagulation experiments were performed in a Taylor–Couette reactor, with aluminum(Al) or ferric sulphate(Fe) utilized as coagulants. Image analysis was performed to gauge floc size and obtain data on fractal dimension. It was found that floc properties were affected by the presence of the com.peptides/proteins and the coagulant used. com.peptides/proteins increased floc size and porosity and widened floc size distributions. The Fe coagulant produced larger and less com.act flocs than Al coagulant. Moreover, the decrease in floc size that occurred in parallel with increase in shear rate was not smooth in progress. A rapid change for the kaolinite-coagulant suspension and two rapid changes for the suspensions containing com.were observed. These were attributed to various intermolecular interactions between floc com.onents participating in coagulation at different G. Based on the results obtained, shear rates suitable for efficient separation of flocs containing com.were suggested.

Visual stimuli occurring naturally are rich in instances of objects delineated from the backgrounds only by differences in luminance,which is called first-order stimuli,as well as those defined by differences of contrast or texture,referred to as second-order stimuli. The neuronal mechanism for processing second-order stimuli is still unclear. In this study,we com.ared the responses of cat LGN (lateral geniculate nucleus) cells to second-order stimuli at five temporal frequencies to their responses to first-order stimuli. Our results showed that most LGN cells can be evoked by second-order stimuli,and their firing rates to second-order stimuli decreased relative to first-order stimuli as temporal frequency increased from 0.5 to 8 Hz; moreover the ratio of a nonlinear to linear factor had a higher value in the responses to second-order stimuli than to first-order stimuli. We also found that the responses of Y-cells to second-order stimuli were significantly higher than the responses of X-cells,suggesting the Y-cells have a more important role in the processing of second-order stimuli. All these results reveal that first-order and second-order signals might be processed in separate 'streams' of the visual sys.tem.
