Objectives:This paper focuses on the underlying mechanisms of women's perceptions of persuasive visual health ***:In the image viewing process,a separation between the image producer and the image viewer occurs,and the connection between the two is *** mixed method research included modal discourse analysis(coding based on visual grammar theory),an eye tracking experiment,a questionnaire survey,and in-depth semi-structured *** interactive meanings of journalistic images related to the human papillomavirus(HPV)vaccine were identified through four sets of *** addition,the perceptions of female viewers were ***:In the first set of stimuli,i.e.,the infographic,the female participants focused most of their attention on information about the nine-valent HPV *** analysis of the interactive meaning of two sets of journalistic pictures,i.e.,fictional pictures and nonfictional pictures,indicated that the image producers did not implement useful viewer involvement strategies to persuade ***,female viewers focused their attention on the"similar other"during the viewing process,gazing at the patient the longest as the primary area of interest(AOI).Conclusions:The study indicates that the current persuasive visual information about the HPV vaccine needs further improvement due to the high demand for information about HPV from the Chinese female audience.

An optical space time pulse position modulation(OSTPPM) scheme is proposed to satisfy the communication requirement of high transmission rate and better reliability. For the OSTPPM scheme, an improved threshold judgment-based orthogonal matching pursuit(IT-OMP) algorithm with low-complexity and near optimal performance is proposed. The average bit error rate of OSTPPM-IT-OMP scheme is investigated over the exponential Weibull channel, and its analytical expression is verified via Monte Carlo simulation. With the same simulation parameters, the signal to noise ratio of(4,4,2)-OSTPPM-IT-OMP is respectively 3.75 d B and 8.5 d B better than that of spatial pulse position modulation(SPPM) scheme and generalized spatial pulse position modulation(GSPPM)scheme at a bit error rate of 1 × 10-3. With the same transmission bits per symbol, the computational complexity of(3,4,2)-OSTPPM-IT-OMP scheme is reduced by 90.47% and 75.4% compared with(16,4,2)-SPPM and(5,4,2)-GSPPM schemes, respectively.

This paper reports part of a study to develop a method for automatic multi-document summarization. The current focus is on dissertation abstracts in the field of sociology. The summarization method uses macro-level and micro-level discourse structure to identify important information that can be extracted from dissertation abstracts, and then uses a variable-based framework to integrate and organize extracted information across dissertation abstracts. This framework focuses more on research concepts and their research relationships found in sociology dissertation abstracts and has a hierarchical structure. A taxonomy is constructed to support the summarization process in two ways：（1） helping to identify important concepts and relations expressed in the text, and （2） providing a structure for linking similar concepts in different abstracts. This paper describes the variable-based framework and the summarization process, and then reports the construction of the taxonomy for supporting the summarization process. An example is provided to show how to use the constructed taxonomy to identify important concepts and integrate the concepts extracted from different abstracts.

Foreign language learning starts with the cultivation of learners' linguistic competence and can only be called successful if learners are inter- culturally competent. This article first takes a closer look at the origin and significance of intercultural communication,then compares the differences between Chinese and western culture in marriage,heroism and educational concepts,and finally suggests attaching importance to the integration of language learning and cultural transmission,cultivation of both cultural sensitivity and cultural empathy in order to help language learners acquire communicative competence.

This paper is aimed at dealing with the cognitive and epistemological significance in Emily Dickinson's use of metonymy in her poems of nature which earlier critics termed enigmatic or *** on textual analysis,the author of this paper attempts to illustrate that,as opposed to Emerson's ideal of transcendence,Dickinson takes worldly contingency as necessary elements of her poetry and proceeds metonymically rather than metaphorically in presenting her everyday encounter with nature and her meditative observation of *** author also holds that Dickinson's concern about contiguity and contingency,her preference for the metonymical way of knowing,sets her apart from the Emersonian visionary tradition and implicates her perspectival stand with regard to man's potential to know nature with language as the medium.

Chinese Marine Economy Development: Dynamic Evolution and Spatial Difference

This study focuses on China's coastal area and its marine economic development. Applying the information diffusion method, the study establishes a kernel density function and its decomposition using a marine economic per capita as the index of the model to depict the dynamic evolution law and the internal influential factors of the Chinese marine economy during 1996–2013. The relative development rate was introduced to analyze the spatial differences in the marine economy's development. In this way, space and time dimensions fully characterized the evolution of the Chinese marine economy. Additionally, the influence of growth and inequality in the process of its development can be analyzed. The study shows that the Chinese marine economy as a whole has been growing, and regional marine economic development is relatively coordinated. In addition, the marine economy began to develop even more rapidly after 2004. There are three factors affecting the dynamic evolution of China's marine economy: first, the most influential mean effect, followed by, second, the variance effect, and third, the least influential residual effect. The biggest influence on the dynamic evolution of the marine economy is the improvement of the development level of the marine economy in the coastal area. Meanwhile, due to the existence of inequality, provinces at higher development levels are more dispersed. Furthermore, the existence of the residual effect weakens the influence of the mean effect, and the influence on the dynamic evolution of the marine economy continuously increases. In the analysis of the influencing factors of the evolution and spatial difference of marine economic development, the level of opening to the outside world, the level of investment in fixed assets and the industrial structure have a positive role in promoting economic development. Mei Niang （1920-2013）, the pen name of Sun Jiarui, is a female fiction writer, translator, and editor of Funii zazhi （Ladies＇ journal）. In the semi-colonial Northeast China, Mei Niang＇s exploration of melancholic narratives shore up manifold levels of socio-historical discourses that are constructive of women＇s subjectivity. Melancholic narrative functions as an inverted mirror of both the author＇s cultural displacement from her diasporic experience, and her portrayal of colonial domination of local elites by the Japanese in Northeast China. Also, the author＇s depiction of feminine melan- cholia revokes the modernist ideology of love and its constitutive male-centered discourses, dismantles the social disenfranchisement of women by feudal authority, social prejudices, and the eroding urban materialism. Stylistically, Mei Niang＇s second-person texts reinforce the feminine authority in enunciation, and by articulating women＇s emotions and afflictions, transmogrify the melancholic narrative into a mode of self-narration and self-empowerment.

Water under Time, the novel by the reputed Chinese fiction writer Fang Fang, appropriates and reconstructs the conventions of the hysteric narrative as an affective form of feminine history telling and writing. The novel, which accounts Hankou city＇s past through the heroine＇s life story, illustrates how feminine hysteria provides a gendered lens of reconstructed historical authenticity via the panorama of China＇s early Republican period, the anti-Japanese War, and the present new millennium. Transcending the official historical accounts, Fang Fang＇s narrative features women＇s innovative reconfiguration of contesting historical discourses about the city, the community, and the nation. This study of Water under Time suggests that women＇s explorations of hysteria actually surpass the psychoanalytical reading of hysteria as paradigms of feminine bodily, sexual, and social abjection, and instead envisions it as a validating narrative aesthetic which carries the potential to rewrite the boundaries of gender, nation, and history.
