The Role of the Spatial Network in Urban Disaster Risk Variations:Reimagining the Notion of Spatial Vulnerability at the Urban Scale

The notion of “spatial vulnerability” is present in most disaster studies with a strong geographical connotation and accordingly is adopted at all scales, including the urban. While enabling mapping and visualizing risk patterns at macroscales, this geocentric foundation fails to capture disaster risk dynamics associated with the urban spatial network—an element that plays a significant role in the everyday and emergency functioning of cities, enabling users' movement and interaction. Yet,urban vulnerability assessment overlooks this aspect and thus leaves urban disaster risk mechanisms partially *** study investigated the role of the network of urban public open spaces(UPOS) in the creation and progression of urban disaster risk in earthquake-prone settlements. Through a multimethod approach that integrates quantitative and qualitative methods and explores spatial configuration, planning policies, and practices of use of UPOS in everyday and emergency scenarios, our study demonstrated that UPOS configuration plays an active role in urban disaster risk. Urban public open spaces impact risk by influencing the exposure of pedestrians and their capacity for self-protection. The study further reconceptualized spatial vulnerability at the urban scale, as the fraction of vulnerability associated to the spatial network, highlighting the interplay of planning policies and spatial practices in its production and progression. Our findings make the notion of spatial vulnerability less ambiguous at the urban scale, by viewing the variable as an imbalance in capacities and exposure that generates spatially unsafe conditions. This refined conceptualization of spatial vulnerability becomes a lens for a more granular approach to urban disaster risk reduction and city planning by identifying and integrating sociospatial considerations.

Electrode/Electrolyte Interfacial Chemistry Modulated by Chelating Effect for High-Performance Zinc Anode

Although Zn metal has been regarded as the most promising anode for aqueous batteries,its practical application is still restricted by side reactions and dendrite ***,an in-situ solid electrolyte interphase （SEI） film formed on the interface of electrode/electrolyte during the plating/stripping of zinc anodes by introducing trace amounts of multidentate ligand sodium diethyldithiocarbamate （DDTC） additive into 1 *** synergistic effect of in-situ solid electrolyte interphase forming and chelate effect endows Zn2+with uniform and rapid interface-diffusion kinetics against dendrite growth and surface side *** a result,the Zn anode in 1 M ZnSO4+DDTC electrolytes displays an ultra-high coulombic efficiency of99.5%and cycling stability （more than 2000 h）,especially at high current density (more than 600 cycles at 40 mA cm-2).Moreover,the Zn//MnO2full cells in the ZnSO4+DDTC electrolyte exhibit outstanding cyclic stability（with 98.6%capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 10 C）.This electrode/electrolyte interfacial chemistry modulated strategy provides new insight into enhancing zinc anode stability for high-performance aqueous zinc batteries.

An unexpected approach to enhance specific surface area and mesopore amount of polyaniline by Zn doping

Poly-p-anisidine could be easily fabricated via the oxidative polymerization reaction of p-anisidine using H2O2as the green oxidant. It was unexpectedly found that zinc doping could significantly improve the adsorption ability of the material versus heavy metals such as Pb, Cu,Pd, Ag and Hg. Results of nitrogen adsorption–desorption experiments demonstrated that Zn doping could enhance the specific surface area and mesopore amount of the prepared material, which might facilitate its absorption to metals. This work not only provides a novel material for the treatment of heavy metal-polluted water but also leads to a nice mesoporous catalyst support for environment protection and organic synthesis, i.e. the Zn-doped poly-panisidine can be employed as the catalyst support to prepare Cu@PANI-OMe/Zn or Pd@PANI-OMe/Zn for the oxidative degradation reaction of phenol or Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reactions, respectively. It discloses a new strategy for fabricating the mesoporous polyaniline materials with profound application potential.

Rethinking attribute localization for zero-shot learning

Recent advancements in attribute localization have showcased its potential in discovering the intrinsic semantic knowledge for visual feature representations, thereby facilitating significant visual-semantic interactions essential for zero-shot learning(ZSL). However, the majority of existing attribute localization methods heavily rely on classification constraints, resulting in accurate localization of only a few attributes while neglecting the rest important attributes associated with other classes. This limitation hinders the discovery of the intrinsic semantic relationships between attributes and visual features across all *** address this problem, we propose a novel attribute localization refinement(ALR) module designed to enhance the model's ability to accurately localize all attributes. Essentially, we enhance weak discriminant attributes by grouping them and introduce weighted attribute regression to standardize the mapping values of semantic attributes. This module can be flexibly combined with existing attribute localization *** experiments show that when combined with the ALR module, the localization errors in existing methods are corrected, and state-of-the-art classification performance is achieved.

Logit prototype learning with active multimodal representation for robust open-set recognition

Robust open-set recognition(OSR) performance has become a prerequisite for pattern recognition systems in real-world applications. However, the existing OSR methods are primarily implemented on the basis of single-modal perception, and their performance is limited when single-modal data fail to provide sufficient descriptions of the objects. Although multimodal data can provide more comprehensive information than single-modal data, the learning of decision boundaries can be affected by the feature representation gap between different modalities. To effectively integrate multimodal data for robust OSR performance, we propose logit prototype learning(LPL) with active multimodal representation. In LPL, the input multimodal data are transformed into the logit space, enabling a direct exploration of intermodal correlations without the impact of scale inconsistency. Then, the fusion weights of each modality are determined using an entropybased uncertainty estimation method. This approach realizes adaptive adjustment of the fusion strategy to provide comprehensive descriptions in the presence of external disturbances. Moreover, the single-modal and multimodal representations are jointly optimized interactively to learn discriminative decision ***, a stepwise recognition rule is employed to reduce the misclassification risk and facilitate the distinction between known and unknown classes. Extensive experiments on three multimodal datasets have been done to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In-depth analysis of VARTM-based solid-state supercapacitors utilizing CNT-dispersed cobalt-bismuth-samarium ternary hydroxide on woven carbon fiber for enhanced energy storage

Multi-metal hydroxides possess unique physical and chemical properties,making them promising candidates for supercapacitor working *** their electrochemical performance can be achieved through a combination with carbon *** this study,we synthesized a composite material by hydrothermally dispersed 4,6,and 10 wt% carbon nanotubes(CNT) into ternary cobaltbismuth-samarium hydroxide(CoBiSm-TOH).These nanocomposites were employed as the material for the working electrode in a *** findings reveal that at 1.5 A/g,the specific capacitance of CNT3@CoBiSm-TOH,using a three-electrode system,was found to be 852.91 F/g,higher than that of CoBi-BOH,CoBiSm-TOH,CNT1@CoBiSm-TOH and CNT5@CoBiSm-TOH-measuring 699.69,750.34,789.54 and 817.79 F/g,***,CNT3@CoBiSm-TOH electrodes exhibited a capacitance retention of around 88% over 10,000 *** demonstrate practical applicability,CNT3@CoBiSm-TOH was grown on woven carbon fiber(WCF),and a solid-state supercapacitor device was developed using the VARTM(vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding).This device displayed a specific capacitance of 272.67 F/g at 2.25 A/***,it achieved a maximum energy density of 53.01 Wh/kg at a power density of 750 W/kg and sustained excellent cycle stability over 50,000 cycles,maintaining 70% of its initial *** results underscore the importance of interfacial nanoengineering and provide crucial insights for the development of future energy storage devices.

Multi-Robot Cooperative Localization: Time-Varying Unobservable Subspace Analysis and Consistent Algorithm Design

This paper investigates the problem of cooperative localization(CL) for a multi-robot system(MRS) under dynamic measurement topology, which involves a group of robots collectively estimating their poses with respect to a common reference frame using ego-motion measurements and robot-to-robot relative measurements. The authors provide a theoretical analysis of the time-varying unobservable subspace and propose a consistent cooperative localization algorithm. First, the authors introduce the relative measurement graph(RMG) to represent the relative pose measurements obtained by the MRS at each instant. Then, the authors derive the local observability matrix over a time *** equivalent relationship is established between the local observability matrix and the spectral matrices of the RMG. Moreover, the authors present a method for constructing the unobservable subspace based on the RMG under different topology conditions. Based on this analysis, the authors design a consistent cooperative localization algorithm that satisfies the constraints of the time-varying unobservable subspace. An analytical optimal solution is derived for the constrained optimization *** Carlo numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the consistency and accuracy of the proposed method.

Exclusive Hypothesis Testing for Cox's Proportional Hazards Model

Exclusive hypothesis testing is a new and special class of hypothesis testing. This kind of testing can be applied in survival analysis to understand the association between genomics information and clinical information about the survival time. Besides, it is well known that Cox's proportional hazards model is the most commonly used model for regression analysis of failure time. In this paper,the authors consider doing the exclusive hypothesis testing for Cox's proportional hazards model with right-censored data. The authors propose the comprehensive test statistics to make decision, and show that the corresponding decision rule can control the asymptotic Type Ⅰ errors and have good powers in theory. The numerical studies indicate that the proposed approach works well for practical situations and it is applied to a set of real data arising from Rotterdam Breast Cancer Data study that motivated this study.

Phenomenology of heavy neutral gauge boson at muon collider

Heavy neutral gauge boson Z' is proposed in many new physics *** has rich phenomena at the future muon *** study the properties of Z' boson with the process of μ^(+)μ^(-)→qq,μ^(+)μ^(-)→l^(+)l^(-),μ^(+)μ^(-)→ ZH and μ^(+)μ^(-)→ W^(+)W^(-).The discrepancy of Z' coupling to different types of particles can be shown in the cross section distributions around the resonance peak of various decay *** distributions of the final quark or lepton in μ^(+)μ^(-)→qq/l^(+)l^(-)process are sensitive to the parameters such as mass of Z' and the Z-Z' mixing *** interaction of new gauge boson coupling to the standard model gauge particles and Higgs boson are also studied through μ^(+)μ^(-)→ ZH→l^(+)l^(-)bb and μ^(+)u^(-)→ W^(+)W^(-)→l^(+)l^(-)v_(l)v_(l).The cross section and the final particles' angular distributions with the contribution of Z' boson differ from those processes with only standard model particles.A forward-backward asymmetry defined by the angular distribution is provided to show the potential of searching for new physics at the muon ***,the beam polarization with certain value can effectively enlarge the forward-backward asymmetry.
