Preparation of floating BiOCl_(0.6)I_(0.4)/ZnO photocatalyst and its inactivation of Microcystis aeruginosa under visible light

Frequent occurrence of harmful algal blooms has already threatened aquatic life and human health.In the present study,floating BiOCl_(0.6)I_(0.4)/ZnO photocatalyst was synthesized in situ by water bath method,and and applied in inactivation of Microcystis aeruginosa under visible light.The composition,morphology,chemical states,optical properties of the photocatalyst were also characterized.The results showed that BiOCl_(0.6)I_(0.4)exhibited laminated nanosheet structure with regular shape,and the light response range of the composite BZ/EP-3 (BiOCl_(0.6)I_(0.4)/ZnO/EP-3) was tuned from 582 to 638 nm.The results of photocatalytic experiments indicated that BZ/EP-3 composite had stronger photocatalytic activity than a single BiOCl_(0.6)I_(0.4)and ZnO,and the removal rate of chlorophyll a was 89.28%after 6 hr of photocatalytic reaction.The photosynthetic system was destroyed and cell membrane of algae ruptured under photocatalysis,resulting in the decrease of phycobiliprotein components and the release of a large number of ions (K^(+),Ca^(2+)and Mg^(2+)).Furthermore,active species trapping experiment determined that holes (h+) and superoxide radicals (·O_(2)-) were the main active substance for the inactivation of algae,and the p-n mechanism of photocatalyst was proposed.Overall,BZ/EP-3 showed excellent algal removal ability under visible light,providing fundamental theories for practical algae pollution control.

Effect of alkaline earth metal promoter on catalytic activity of MnO_(2)for the complete oxidation of toluene

Herein,Na^(+)and Ca^(2+)are introduced to MnO_(2)through cation-exchange method.The presence of Na^(+)and Ca^(2+)significantly enhance the catalytic activity of MnO_(2)in toluene oxidation.Among them,the Ca-MnO_(2)catalyst exhibits the best catalytic activity(T_(50)=194℃,T_(90)=215℃,E_a=57.2 k J/mol,reaction rate 8.40×10^(-10)mol/(sec·m^(2))at 210℃.T_(50)and T_(90):the temperature of 50%and 90%toluene conversion;E a:apparent activation energy)and possess high tolerance against 2.0 vol.%water vapor.Results reveal that the increased acidic sites of the MnO_(2)sample can enhance the adsorption of gaseous toluene,and the mobility of oxygen species and the content of reactive oxygen species in the catalyst are significantly improved due to the formed oxygen vacancy.Thus these two factors result in excellent catalytic performance for toluene oxidation combining with the weak CO_(2)adsorption ability.

Water-soluble matter in PM_(2.5)in a coastal city over China:Chemical components,optical properties,and source analysis

Although marine and terrestrial emissions simultaneously affect the formation of atmospheric fine particles in coastal areas,knowledge on the optical properties and sources of water-soluble matter in these areas is still scarce.In this work,taking Qingdao,China as a typical coastal location,the chemical composition of PM_(2.5)duringwinter 2019was analyzed.Excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy was combined with parallel factor analysis model to explain the components of water-soluble atmospheric chromophores of PM_(2.5).Our analysis indicated that NO_(3)^(-),NH_(4)^(+)and SO_(4)^(2-)ions accounted for 86.80%of the total ion mass,dominated by NO_(3)^(-).The ratio of[NO_(3)^(-)]/[SO_(4)^(2-)]was up to 2.42±0.84,suggesting thatmobile sources play an important role in local pollutants emission.The result of positive correlation between Abs_(365)with K^(+)suggests that biomass burning is an important source of water-soluble organic compounds(WSOC).Six types of fluorophores(C1-C6),all humic-like substances,were identified in WSOC.Humification index,biological index and fluorescence index in winter were 1.66±0.34,0.51±0.44 and 1.09±0.78,respectively,indicating that WSOC in Qingdao were mainly terrestrial organic matters.Overall,although the study area is close to the ocean,the contribution of terrestrial sources to PM_(2.5),especially vehicle exhaust and coal combustion,is still much higher than that of marine sources.Our study provides a more comprehensive understanding of chemical and optical properties of WSOC based on PM_(2.5)in coastal areas,and may provide ground for improving local air quality.

Characterization of halogenated DBPs and identification of new DBPs trihalomethanols in chlorine dioxide treated drinking water with multiple extractions

Chlorine dioxide(ClO2) is a widely used alternative disinfectant due to its high biocidal efficiency and low-level formation of trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. A major portion of total organic halogen(TOX), a collective parameter for all halogenated DBPs, formed in ClO2-treated drinking water is still unknown. A commonly used pretreatment method for analyzing halogenated DBPs in drinking water is one-time liquid–liquid extraction(LLE), which may lead to a substantial loss of DBPs prior to analysis. In this study, characterization and identification of polar halogenated DBPs in a ClO2-treated drinking water sample were conducted by pretreating the sample with multiple extractions. Compared to one-time LLE, the combined four-time LLEs improved the recovery of TOX by 2.3 times. The developmental toxicity of the drinking water sample pretreated with the combined four-time LLEs was 1.67 times higher than that pretreated with one-time LLE.With the aid of ultra-performance liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry, a new group of polar halogenated DBPs, trihalomethanols,were detected in the drinking water sample pretreated with multiple extractions; two of them,trichloromethanol and bromodichloromethanol, were identified with synthesized standard compounds. Moreover, these trihalomethanols were found to be the transformation products of trihalomethanes formed during ClO2disinfection. The results indicate that multiple LLEs can significantly improve extraction efficiencies of polar halogenated DBPs and is a better pretreatment method for characterizing and identifying new polar halogenated DBPs in drinking water.

Capture of carbon dioxide from flue gas on TEPA-grafted metal-organic framework Mg_2 (dobdc)

Carbon dioxide(CO2) adsorption on a standard metal-organic framework Mg2(dobdc)(Mg/DOBDC or Mg-MOF-74) and a tetraethylenepentamine(TEPA) modified Mg2(dobdc)(TEPA-Mg/DOBDC) were investigated and compared. The structural information, surface chemistry and thermal behavior of the adsorbent samples were characterized by X-ray powder difraction(XRD), infrared spectroscopy(IR), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm analysis. CO2adsorption capacity was measured by dynamic adsorption experiments with N2-CO2mixed gases at 60°C. Results showed that the CO2adsorption capacity of Mg/DOBDC was significantly improved after amine modification, with an increase from 2.67 to 6.06 mmol CO2/g adsorbent.Moreover, CO2adsorption on the TEPA-Mg/DOBDC adsorbent was promoted by water vapor, and the adsorption capacity was enhanced to 8.31 mmol CO2/g absorbent. The adsorption capacity of the TEPA-Mg/DOBDC adsorbent dropped only 3% after 5consecutive adsorption/desorption cycles. Therefore, this kind of adsorbent can be considered as a promising material for the capture of CO2from flue gas.

A candy-like photocatalyst by wrapping Co, N-co-doped hollow carbon sphere with ultrathin mesoporous carbon nitride for boosted photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Hierarchical carbon material is used as a star cocatalyst in the field of photocatalysis due to its excellent catalytic properties. In this work, mesoporous carbon nitride sheet(MCNS) photocatalyst introduced nitrogen-doped hollow carbon spheres assembled with cobalt nanoparticles(Co@NHC) is synthesized by electrostatic adsorption. A series of characterizations are analyzed to display the structures, morphologies and optical properties of as-prepared materials. The photocatalytic activity of Co@NHC/MCNS material is evaluated with hydrogen evolution under visible light irradiation. The results indicate that 5 wt%Co@NHC/MCNS material reveals higher photocatalytic activity of hydrogen evolution rate of 3675 μmol/g with 4 h reaction time, which is 159 times than that of pure MCNS material. The carbon material with excellent charge transport properties can effectively accelerate the charge transfer from ultrathin MCNS to cobalt nanoparticles. The goal of improving the photocatalytic performance of Co@NHC/MCNS material is achieved. As a result, it provides a feasible and promised approach for doping transition metals to enhance photocatalytic activity.

The photocatalytic ·OH production activity of g-C_(3)N_(4) improved by the introduction of NO

The efficiency of photocatalytic pollutant removal largely depends on the ability of the photocatalytic system to produce hydroxyl radicals(·OH).However,the capability of photocatalyst to produce·OH is not strong at present.Advancing the capacity of photocatalytic system to produce·OH has always been a tough problem and challenge in the field of environmental science.In this research,it was found that introducing nitric oxide(NO)into the graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))photocatalytic system could memorably enhance the ability of producing·OH group.This study provides a new idea for improving the capacity of photocatalytic·OH production.

Spatial distribution and export of nutrients and metal elements in the subterranean estuary of Daya Bay

Subterranean estuaries(STE)are important seawater-groundwater mixing zones with complex biogeochemical processes,which play a vital role in the migration and transformation of dissolved materials.In this study,we first investigated the spatial distributions of dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN),dissolved inorganic phosphorous(DIP),dissolved inorganic silicon(DSi)and metal elements(As,Ba,Cr,Cu,Fe,Mn,Ni,Pb,and Zn)in STE including upper intertidal,seepage face and subtidal zones.We then estimated submarine groundwater discharge(SGD)and associated nutrient and metal element fluxes.From the generalized Darcy’s law method,SGD was estimated to be 30.13 cm/d,which was about 7 times larger than the inflow(4.16 cm/d).The nutrient and metal fluxes from SGD were estimated to be(5.33±4.99)mmol/(m^(2)·d)for DIN,(0.22±0.03)mmol/(m^(2)·d)for DIP,(16.20±2.05)mmol/(m^(2)·d)for DSi,(1325.06±99.10)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Fe,(143.41±25.13)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Mn,(304.06±81.07)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Zn,(140.21±13.33)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Cu,(84.49±2.94)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Pb,(37.38±5.51)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Ba,(27.88±3.89)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Cr,(10.10±6.33)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Ni,and(6.25±3.45)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for As.The nutrient and metal fluxes from SGD were relatively higher than those from the inflow,suggesting that nearshore groundwater acted as the sources of nutrients and metal elements discharging into the sea.The environmental potential pollution of coastal seawater was evaluated by pollution factor index(Pi),comprehensive water quality index(CWQI),and ecological risk index(ERI).Pb mainly caused potential danger of nearshore environment with considerable contamination(Pi=5.78±0.19),heavy pollution(CWQI=4.09)and high ecological risk(ERI=18.00).This study contributed to better understanding the behavior of nutrients and metal elements and improving the sustainable management of STE under the pressure of anthropogenic activities and climate change.

Catalytic ozonation of volatile organic compounds(ethyl acetate)at normal temperature

Catalytic treatments of VOCs at normal temperature can greatly reduce the cost and temperature of processing,and improve the safety factor in line with the requirements of green chemistry.Activated carbon fiber(ACF)was pretreated with 10%H_(2)SO_(4)by single factor optimization to increase specific surface area and pore volume obviously.The catalytic ozonation performance of ACF loaded with Au,Ag,Pt and Pd noble metals on ethyl acetate was investigated and Pd/ACF was selected as the optimal catalyst which had certain stability.Pd is uniformly distributed on the surface of ACF,and Palladium mainly exists in the form of Pd0 with a amount of Pd+2.The specific surface area of the catalysts gradually decreases as the loading increases.The activation energy of ethyl acetate calculated by Arrhenius equation is 113 kJ mol 1.With 1%Pd loading and the concentration ratio of ozone to ethyl acetate is 3:1,catalytic ozonation performance is maximized and the conversion rate of ethyl acetate reached to 60%in 3050℃Cat 15,00030,000 h^1.

Synthesis, Fluorescence and Dielectric Properties of Two Novel Compounds Based on Triethylenediamine Derivatives

Two compounds C_8H_(18)N_2Br_3Mn_(0.5)(1) and C_(12)H_(26)N_2Cl_4Mn(2) based on triethylenediamine derivatives were synthesized by solution method and were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray structure analysis, fluorescence test, circular dichroism(CD) analysis and dielectric measurement, respectively. According to single-crystal X-ray determination, compound 1 crystallizes in the cubic system, space group Pa3 with a = b = c = 13.7246(5) ?, Z = 24, V = 2585.2(3) ?~3; and compound 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group P212121 with a = 7.9716(13), b = 15.309(3), c = 15.804(3) ?, Z = 4 and V = 1928.7(6) ?3. Fluorescent analysis of compound 1 showed an intense emission band at 670 nm when the exciting radiation was set at 378 nm and fluorescent analysis of compound 2 showed an intense emission band at 515 nm when the exciting radiation was set at 363 nm. Dielectric constants of compounds 1 and 2 were measured at different frequencies with temperature variation.
