Determinants of moderate to vigorous physical activity and obesity in children:a structural equation modeling analysis

Background:The determinants of physical activity(PA)and body fatness in Chinese adolescents are rarely *** study aimed to investigate the effect of attitude toward PA,screen time,parents'socioeconomic status(SES),and exercise habit on PA and body fatness among Chinese children by using structural equation modeling(SEM)***:Data obtained from the second Community Fitness Survey in Hong Kong region were utilized,in which students from one secondary school of each of the 18 districts of Hong Kong were recruited.A total of 2517 questionnaires with physical fitness items were successfully distributed to students aged 13-19 years in these ***'SES,parents'exercise habit,children's intention to participate in PA,amount of moderate to vigorous PA(MVPA),screen time,children's attitude toward PA,and children's body fat percentage were measured and analyzed with *** structural equation model was composed of a measurement model and a structural *** model was tested with Mplus *** Chi-square test,root mean square error of approximation,comparative fi t index,and Tucker-Lewis index were calculated to evaluate model *** model was then modifi ed based on the model fi t ***:Children's intention to participate in PA was a strong predictor of their engagement in ***'exercise habit had both direct and indirect(via attitude)effects on their children's intention to participate in *** time was not a predictor of body ***'s intention to participate in PA directly affected their body ***'s attitude toward PA,parents'exercise habit,and SES had signifi cant effects on the children's intention to participate in ***,obesity had a negative effect on the children's attitude toward ***:To promote MVPA and prevent obesity in Chinese children of Hong Kong region,it is important to design intervention that enhances children's intention and attitude in PA,as well as pa

The meaning of complementary, alternative and traditional medicine among the Indonesian psychology community: a pilot study

OBJECTIVE： Complementary, alternative and traditional medicine （CATM） is a new field, as well as a promising area of study and practice in psychology. It is important to research the cultural context and meaning of CATM, including its definitions and examples, among different communities of psychology because CATM＇s use is dependent on how it is understood by the members. The aim of this pilot study is to provide an interpretation of the Indonesian psychology community＇s understanding of CATM through a qualitative approach. METHODS： Online interviews with open-ended questions and purposive sampling were used. Participants were dominantly psychologists or lecturers in clinical psychology area. Ten males and 12 females with an average age of 28.0 ＋ 2.5 years voluntarily participated in this study. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and reviewed and analysed by the two authors to ensure accuracy of interpretation. RESULTS： It was found that there was no single meaning of CATM among the Indonesian community of psychology. Participants were not familiar enough with the terms and tended to use them with overlap. It can be suggested that ＂complementary medicine＂ and ＂alternative medicine＂ or ＂complementary- alternative medicine＂ combined provides more suitable terminology for use among Indonesian psychology community when communicating with other health care professionals. CONCLUSION： The understanding of the terms and examples of CATM were diverse and were often used interchangeably in the projects/interviews. It was also found that Indonesian psychologists required more education regarding CATM. In addition, future studies with more participants from various aspects of the psychology community should be conducted to capture a more representative sample.

Background:Physical inactivity is a major public health problem worldwide that results in physical and mental health *** major issue for physical inactivity is weight stigma(WS),especially perceived WS,which could lead to a tendency to avoid physical activity(PA).To better understand the association between perceived WS and PA,knowledge of the likely mediators in this association such as weight bias internalization(WBI)and psychological distress were investigated in the present ***:Using a two-wave longitudinal study and convenient sampling,388 Taiwan residents participants(55%females;mean age=29.7 years[SD±6.3])completed two surveys six months *** mass index(BMI),Perceived Weight Stigma Scale(PWSS),Weight Bias Internalization Scale(WBIS),Depression,Anxiety,Stress Scale(DASS-21),and Tendency to Avoid Physical Activity and Sport Scale(TAPAS)were ***:A mediation model controlling for age,gender,and BMI with 5000 bootstrapping resamples was *** WS exerted significant direct effects on WBI(β=0.25;p<0.001),psychological distress(β=0.15;p=0.003),and tendency to avoid PA(β=0.10;p=0.027);WBI exerted a significant direct effect on tendency to avoid PA(β=0.47;p<0.001).Standardized indirect effects of WBI and psychological distress on the association between perceived WS and tendency to avoid PA were 0.12 and 0.01,***:Given the direct association of perceived WS on the tendency to avoid PA and the mediating role of WBI in this association,interventions addressing perceived WS and WBI may contribute to promoting ***,health interventionists(both when planning and executing PA programs)need to consider weight stigmawhen encouraging physical activity.

目的:检验教师主观幸福感量表(Teacher Subjective Well-being Questionnaire,TSWQ)中文修订版信度、效度及其跨教师性别、跨任教学段的测量等值性。方法:应用中文版TSWQ对来自全国9省份56所中学的1463名教师进行测量,以中小学教师职业倦怠量表和特拉华校园氛围量表-教工卷为效标工具,一个月后随机抽取55名教师进行重测。结果:(1)验证性因素分析结果支持一阶二因子模型。(2)中文版TSWQ总分与教师校园氛围感知、个人成就感显著正相关(r=0.465,P<0.01;r=0.416,P<0.01),与情绪衰竭、非人性化显著负相关(r=-0.226,P<0.01;r=-0.232,P<0.01)。(3)中文版TSWQ总量表的Cronbach’sα系数为0.898,四周后的重测信度为0.813。(4)多组验证性因素分析结果显示,中文版TSWQ跨性别和跨任教学段的测量等值性假设成立。(5)在教师主观幸福感量表的教学效能感维度存在显著性别差异,男教师教学效能感优于女教师。结论:中文版TSWQ信度与效度良好,可在不同教师性别、任教学段之间进行跨组比较,是研究我国教师主观幸福感的可靠工具。

The success of teachers in professional environments has a desirable influence on their mental *** said,teachers’professional success plays a crucial role in improving their mental *** to the invaluable role of professional success in teachers’mental health,personal and professional variables helping teachers succeed in their profession need to be *** the role of teachers’personal qualities has been well researched,the function of professional variables has remained *** address the existing gap,the current investigation measured the role of two professional variables,namely job satisfaction and loving pedagogy,in Chinese EFL teachers’professional *** do this,three validated scales were provided to 1591 Chinese EFL ***’answers to the questionnaires were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test and structural equation *** data analysis demonstrated a strong,positive link between the ***,loving pedagogy was found to be the positive,strong predictor of Chinese EFL teachers’job satisfaction and professional *** findings of the current inquiry may help educational administrators enhance their instructors’professional success,which in turn promotes their mental and psychological conditions at work.

Facial Expression Enhances Emotion Perception Compared to Vocal Prosody： Behavioral and fMRI Studies

Facial and vocal expressions are essential modalities mediating the perception of emotion and social communication. Nonetheless, currently little is known about how emotion perception and its neural substrates differ across facial expression and vocal prosody. To clarify this issue, functional MRI scans were acquired in Study 1, in which participants were asked to discriminate the valence of emotional expression （angry, happy or neutral） from facial, vocal, or bimodal stimuli. In Study 2, we used an affective priming task （unimodal materials as primers and bimodal materials as target） and participants were asked to rate the intensity, valence, and arousal of the targets. Study 1 showed higher accuracy and shorter response latencies in the facial than in the vocal modality for a happy expression. Whole-brain analysis showed enhanced activation during facial compared to vocal emotions in the inferior temporal-occipital regions. Region of interest analysis showed a higher percentage signal change for facial than for vocal anger in the superior temporal sulcus. Study 2 showed that facial relative to vocal priming of anger had a greater influence on perceived emotion for bimodal targets, irrespective of the target valence. These findings suggest that facial expression is associated with enhanced emotion perception compared to equivalent vocal prosodies.

What can atypical language hemispheric specialization tell us about cognitive functions?

Recent studies have made substantial progress in understanding the interactions between cognitive functions, from language to cognitive control, attention, and memory. However, dissociating these functions has been hampered by the close proximity of regions involved, as in the case in the prefrontal and parietal cortex. In this article, we review a series of studies that investigated the relationship between language and other cognitive functions in an alternative way - by examining their functional （co-）lateralization. We argue that research on the hemispheric lateralization of language and its link with handedness can offer an appropriate starting- point to shed light on the relationships between different functions. Besides functional interactions, anatomical asymmetries in non-human primates and those underlying language in humans can provide unique information about cortical organization. Finally, some open questions and criteria are raised for an ideal theoretical model of the cortex based on hemispheric specialization.
