Decadal Indian Ocean Dipolar Variability and Its Relationship with the Tropical Pacific

A robust decadal Indian Ocean dipolar variability （DIOD） is identified in observations and found to be related to tropical Pacific decadal variability （TPDV）. A Pacific Ocean-global atmosphere （POGA） experiment, with fixed radiative forcing, is conducted to evaluate the DIOD variability and its relationship with the TPDV. In this experiment, the sea surface temperature anomalies are restored to observations over the tropical Pacific, but left as interactive with the atmosphere elsewhere. The TPDV-forced DIOD, represented as the ensemble mean of 10 simulations in POGA, accounts for one third of the total variance. The forced DIOD is triggered by anomalous Walker circulation in response to the TPDV and develops following Bjerknes feedback. Thermocline anomalies do not exhibit a propagating signal, indicating an absence of oceanic planetary wave adjustment in the subtropical Indian Ocean. The DIOD-TPDV correlation differs among the 10 simulations, with a low correlation corresponding to a strong internal DIOD independent of the TPDV. The variance of this internal DIOD depends on the background state in the Indian Ocean, modulated by the thermocline depth off Sumatra/Java.

Given that it was a once-in-a-century emergency event,the confinement measures related to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused diverse disruptions and changes in life and work *** changes significantly affected water consumption both during and after the pandemic,with direct and indirect consequences on ***,there has been a lack of holistic evaluation of these ***,we propose a novel framework to study the impacts of this unique global emergency event by embedding an environmentally extended supply-constrained global multi-regional input-output model(MRIO)into the drivers-pressure-state-impact-response(DPSIR)*** framework allowed us to develop scenarios related to COVID-19 confinement measures to quantify country-sector-specific changes in freshwater consumption and the associated changes in biodiversity for the period of *** results suggest progressively diminishing impacts due to the implementation of COVID-19 vaccines and the socio-economic system’s self-adjustment to the new *** 2020,the confinement measures were estimated to decrease global water consumption by about 5.7% on average across all scenarios when compared with the baseline level with no confinement ***,such a decrease is estimated to lead to a reduction of around 5% in the related pressure on *** the interdependencies and interactions across global supply chains,even those countries and sectors that were not directly affected by the COVID-19 shocks experienced significant impacts:Our results indicate that the supply chain propagations contributed to 79% of the total estimated decrease in water consumption and 84%of the reduction in biodiversity loss on *** study demonstrates that the MRIO-enhanced DSPIR framework can help quantify resource pressures and the resultant environmental impacts across supply chains when facing a global emergency ***,we recommend the development o

With the deepening understanding for the concept of sustainable development,the utilization of minerals is no longer limited to the traditional *** this study,an environment friendly method for preparing Fe-Al_(2)O_(3)composites by using natural minerals was ***,the effects of CeO_(2)on the properties of composites were *** mechanical properties of Fe-Al_(2)O_(3)composites prepared by natural minerals are affected by the brittleness of glass *** strength and toughness of the glass phase in the composite are improved successfully by using rare earth oxides,indicating that the natural rare earths in Bayan Obo minerals have an enhanced influence on the properties of composite *** results show that the properties of glass phase can be significantly improved by addition of CeO_(2).At the optimal addition of 3 wt%CeO_(2),the composite achieves the density of 4.21 g/cm^(3),flexural strength of 401 MPa,Vickers hardness of 13.07 GPa and fracture toughness of 6.58 MPa·m^(1/2).The composite has excellent mechanical properties,which can be used in engineering as a cheap structural *** study aims at reducing waste emissions,improving energy efficiencies and avoiding waste of rare earth resources during the preparation of composite materials.

Diversified manufacturing processes and multiple mineral sources:Features of Warring States bronze vessels excavated from Chutai Cemetery M1,Anhui Province

Northern Anhui was an important region for diverse bronze culture convergence and extensive metal resource circulation in the Pre-Qin *** this paper,metallographic microstructure analysis,chemical composition analysis,and lead isotope ratio analysis were conducted on 12 samples of 6 Warring States Period(476–221 BCE)bronze vessels excavated from Chutai Cemetery M1,Fuyang,Anhui Province,revealing the integrated application of diversified manufacturing processes,such as casting,forging,cold working,and welding and multiple metal *** analytical results showed that 2 Ding vessels(鼎)were made by casting,and 2 He vessels(盒)and 2 Dui vessels(敦)were made by forging followed by cold *** two types of bronze vessels made by different manufacturing processes have significantly distinct alloy ratios and mineral sources,among which the Cu and Sn contents of the 2 cast bronze vessels are lower and the Pb content is higher,while the Cu and Sn contents of the 4 forged bronze vessels are higher and the Pb content is *** lead minerals of the two types of bronze vessels might come from Western Henan and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River,*** addition,the 3 pieces of solder used to weld bronze vessels were all made of pure Sn,their metal minerals should come from the densely distributed area of tin ore in Southern China,and Sn solders were mainly discovered in the Chu culture area during the Eastern Zhou Period.

The Fagaceae,a plant family with a wide distribution and diverse adaptability,has garnered significant interest as a subject of study in plant speciation and ***,certain Fagaceae species are regarded as highly valuable wood resources due to the exceptional quality of their *** this study,we present two high-quality,chromosome-scale genome sequences for Quercus sichourensis(848.75 Mb)and Quercus rex(883.46 Mb).Comparative genomics analysis reveals that the difference in the number of plant disease resistance genes and the nonsynonymous and synonymous substitution ratio(Ka/Ks)of protein-coding genes among Fagaceae species are related to different environmental ***,most genes related to starch synthesis in the investigated Quercoideae species are located on a single chromosome,as compared to the outgroup species,Fagus ***,resequencing and population analysis of *** and *** reveal that *** has lower genetic diversity and higher deleterious mutations compared to *** high-quality,chromosome-level genomes and the population genomic analysis of the critically endangered *** and *** will provide an invaluable resource as well as insights for future study in these two species,even the genus Quercus,to facilitate their conservation.

High-energy electron spectrometer on Macao Science Satellite-1

Macao Science Satellite-1(MSS-1) is a two-star constellation mission sponsored jointly by the China National Space Administration(CNSA) and the Macau University of Science and Technology(MUST). The mission aims to explore the geomagnetic field and space particle radiation environment in low-inclination low earth orbit. The satellite A of MSS-1(MSS-1A)carries the third-generation high-energy electron spectrometer(HES), developed by Peking University, to detect high-energy electrons. The HES sensor head utilizes a conventional ΔE-E silicon detector telescope, enabling measurements of high-energy electrons within a 45° cone angle field of view, ranging from 0.3 to 3.0 MeV. As a new generation of high-energy electron detectors(HEDs), the HES operates by default in the in-orbit multi-channel mode, allowing 128 segmented linear distributed energy bin counting measurements with a time resolution of 1 s. High energy resolution observations of high-energy electrons in the inner radiation belt by the HES onboard MSS-1A can help investigate the following questions: Do MeVelectrons exist in the inner radiation belt? What is the production mechanism of relativistic electrons in the inner radiation belt?

Ultrafine NdFeB waste is a relatively clean waste produced during NdFeB magnet *** wastewater is a common type of industrial wastewater,such as stainless steel pickling *** this work,rare earth element neodynium was recycled from ultrafine NdFeB waste by capturing fluorine ions in the fluorine-containing wastewater and prepared into neodynium *** reaction process was investigated through UV-Vis-NIR,thermogravimetry/differential thermogravimetry(TG/DTG),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The neodymium hydroxide in the ultrafine NdFeB waste reacted with fluorine ions to form Nd(OH)_(2) F,and Nd(OH)_(2) F was then transformed into neodymium oxyfluoride after *** formed neodymium oxyfluoride is found to be particles with rhombohedral structure and a particle size of around 50 *** reaction kinetics of forming Nd(OH)_(2) F was *** reaction kinetic equation was established and the reaction activation energy was *** effect of fluorine ion concentration on the reaction rate and products was *** results show that the reaction rate increases with the increase of fluorine ion concentration in the range of 0.01-1.5 mol/L,but it has little *** addition,the fluorine ion concentration affects the crystallinity of formed neodymium *** recycling process not only realizes the sustainable utilization of rare earths,but also reduces the concentration of fluorine ions in the fluorine-containing wastewater,achieving two goals with one stone.

Responses of soil microbial communities to freeze–thaw cycles in a Chinese temperate forest

Background:Freeze–thaw events are common in boreal and temperate forest ecosystems and are increasingly infuenced by climate *** microorganisms play an important role in maintaining ecosystem stability,but their responses to freeze–thaw cycles(FTCs)are poorly *** conducted a feld freeze–thaw experiment in a natural Korean pine and broadleaf mixed forest in the Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve,China,to determine the dynamic responses of soil microbial communities to ***:Bacteria were more sensitive than fungi to *** biomass,diversity and community composition were not signifcantly afected by freeze–thaw regardless of the *** initial freeze–thaw resulted in increased bacterial biomass,diversity,and copiotrophic taxa *** FTCs reduced the bacterial biomass and *** with the initial FTC,subsequent FTCs exerted an opposite efect on the direction of change in the composition and function of the bacterial *** water content,dissolved organic carbon,ammonium nitrogen,and total dissolved phosphorus were important factors determining bacterial community diversity and composition during ***,the functional potentials of the microbial community involved in C and N cycling were also afected by ***:Diferent stages of FTCs have diferent ecological efects on the soil environment and microbial *** FTCs changed the soil nutrients and water availability and then mainly infuenced bacterial community composition,diversity,and functional potentials,which may disturb C and N states in this temperate forest *** study also improves our understanding of microbial communities regulating their ecological functions in response to climate change.
