In-situ structural evolution analysis of Zr-doped Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(2)F_(3) coated by N-doped carbon layer as high-performance cathode for sodium-ion batteries

With great superiorities in energy density,rate capability and structural stability,Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(2) F_(3)(NVPF)has attracted much attentions as cathode of sodium ion battery(SIB),but it also faces challenges on its poor intrinsic electronic conductivity and the controversial de/sodiation mechanism.Herein,a series of Zr-doped NVPF coated by N-doped carbon layer(~5 nm in thickness,homogenously)materials are fabricated by a sol-gel method,and the optimized heteroatom-doping amounts of Zr and N doping improve intrinsic properties on enlarging lattice distance and enhancing electronic conductivity,respectively.Specifically,among all samples of Na_(3) V_(2-x)Zr_(x)(PO_(4))_(2) F_(3)/NC(NVPF-Zr-x/NC,x=0,0.01,0.02,0.05,and 0.1),the optimized electrode of NVPF-Zr-0.02/NC delivers high reversible capacities(119.2 mAh g^(-1) at0.5 C),superior rate capability(98.1 mA h g^(-1) at 20 C)and excellent cycling performance.The structural evolution of NVPF-Zr-0.02/NC electrode,in-situ monitored by X-ray diffractometer,follows a step-wise Na-extraction/intercalation mechanism with reversible multi-phase changes,not just a solid-solutionreaction one.Full cells of NVPF-Zr-0.02/NC//hard carbon demonstrate high capacity(99.8 mA h g^(-1) at 0.5 C),high out-put voltage(3.5 V)and good cycling stability.This work is favorable to accelerate the development of high-performance cathode materials and explore possible redox reaction mechanisms of SIBs.

NaOH–ball-milled co-modified magnetic biochar and its oil adsorption properties

A magnetic biochar adsorbent(BM–OH–BC)was prepared through NaOH–ball milling co-modification with walnut shells as the raw material,and its oil adsorption characteristics were investigated.The adsorption properties of oil pollutants were compared before and after the NaOH-ball-milling co-modification,and the mechanism of NaOH-ball-milling on oil pollutants was investigated by scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,BET,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.The experimental results showed that the oil adsorption capacity of BM–OH–BC can reach 2.75 g/g,which is 129%higher than that of unmodified biochar.Moreover,after five adsorption and desorption cycles,the adsorption rate of BM–OH–BC only decreased by 5.9%,which was because the oil adsorption of BM–OH–BC is mainly chemical adsorption.The adsorption processes involving single layer,heterogeneous phase and multilayer made BM–OH–BC have excellent adsorption properties.After biochar co-modification,the specific surface area of BM–OH–BC increased to 466 m^(2)/g,the total pore volume increased to 0.245 cm^(3)/g,the average pore size decreased to1.90 nm,and the number of hydrophobic non-polar functional groups increased,leading to the enhancement of its oil absorption capacity.This study provides a reference for the treatment of oil-contaminated water bodies.

A Fluorescent Probe based on a Carbazole Derivative for Detecting Brilliant Blue in Food

Here a fluorescent probe based on a carbazole derivative(CNS)was developed to increase the detection range and reduce the detection limit of brilliant blue.Characteristics of CNS are studied.Due to the quenching ability of colorants,CNS shows an excellent current response to brilliant blue(from 1 to 10μM)with a detection limit of 2.7×10^(-8)mol/L(3σ/k)in the conditions of a 1:1 volume ratio of water to tetrahydrofuran.And the stability and reproducibility of CNS in the detection of actual samples indicate great potential for application.

Ge nanoparticles uniformly immobilized on 3D interconnected porous graphene frameworks as anodes for high-performance lithium-ion batteries

Germanium(Ge), an alloy-type anode material for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs), possesses many advantages such as high theoretical capacity and decent electrical conductivity. Nevertheless, its application is restricted by tremendous volume variation and tardy reaction kinetic during discharge/charge process.In this paper, the Ge/3DPG composites with Ge nanoparticles uniformly dispersed in 3D interconnected porous graphene(3DPG) skeleton are successfully prepared using a template-assisted in-situ reduction method. The unique 3D interconnected porous graphene can not only enhance the electronic conductivity and reaction kinetics of the materials, but also provide sufficient buffer space to effectively mitigate the volume expansion during cycling and strengthen the structural integrity. Moreover, the small-sized Ge nanoparticles in close conjunction with the 3D graphene can boost the surface-controlled reaction of the electrode, which contributes to a fast charge–discharge rate capability. The Ge/3DPG composite with optimized Ge/graphene mass ratio delivers high reversible specific capacity(1102 mAh g^(-1) after 100 cycles at 0.2 C), outstanding rate capability(494 mAh g^(-1) at 5 C), and admirable cycling stability(85.3% of capacity retention after 250 cycles at 0.5 C). This work provides a significant inspiration for the design and fabrication of advanced Ge-based anode materials for next-generation highperformance LIBs.

Temporal assembly patterns of microbial communities in three parallel bioreactors treating low-concentration coking wastewater with differing carbon source concentrations

Carbon source is an important factor of biological treatment systems, the effects of which on their temporal community assembly patterns are not sufficiently understood currently.In this study, the temporal dynamics and driving mechanisms of the communities in three parallel bioreactors for low-concentration coking wastewater(CWW) treatment with differing carbon source concentrations(S0 with no glucose addition, S1 with 200 mg/L glucose addition and S2 with 400 mg/L glucose addition) were comprehensively studied. Highthroughput sequencing and bioinformatics analyses including network analysis and Infer Community Assembly Mechanisms by Phylogenetic bin-based null model(iCAMP) were used. The communities of three systems showed turnover rates of 0.0029~0.0034 every 15days. Network analysis results showed that the S0 network showed higher positive correlation proportion(71.43%) and clustering coefficient(0.33), suggesting that carbon source shortage in S0 promoted interactions and cooperation of microbes. The neutral community model analysis showed that the immigration rate increased from 0.5247 in S0 to 0.6478in S2. The iCAMP analysis results showed that drift(45.89%) and homogeneous selection(31.68%) dominated in driving the assembly of all the investigated microbial communities.The contribution of homogeneous selection increased with the increase of carbon source concentrations, from 27.92% in S0 to 36.08% in S2. The OTUs participating in aerobic respiration and tricarboxylic acid(TCA) cycle were abundant among the bins mainly affected by deterministic processes, while those related to the metabolism of refractory organic pollutants in CWW such as alkanes, benzenes and phenols were abundant in the bins dominated by stochastic processes.

Formation of organic chloride in the treatment of textile dyeing sludge by Fenton system

In the oxidation treatment of textile dyeing sludge,the quantitative and transformation laws of organic chlorine are not clear enough.Thus,this study mainly evaluated the treatment of textile dyeing sludge by Fenton and Fenton-like system from the aspects of the influence of Cl^(-),the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and organic carbon,and the removal and formation mechanism of organic chlorine.The results showed that the organic halogen in sludge was mainly hydrophobic organic chlorine,and the content of adsorbable organic chlorine (AOCl) was 0.30 mg/g (dry sludge).In the Fenton system with pH=3,500 mg/L Cl-,30 mmol/L Fe^(2+)and 30 mmol/L H_(2)O_(2),the removal of phenanthrene was promoted by chlorine radicals (·Cl),and the AOCl in sludge solid phase increased to 0.55 mg/g (dry sludge) at 30 min.According to spectral analysis,it was found that ·Cl could chlorinate aromatic and aliphatic compounds (excluding PAHs) in solid phase at the same time,and eventually led to the accumulation of aromatic chlorides in solid phase.Strengthening the oxidation ability of Fenton system increased the formation of organic chlorines in liquid and solid phases.In weak acidity,the oxidation and desorption of superoxide anion promoted the removal and migration of PAHs and organic carbon in solid phase,and reduced the formation of total organic chlorine.The Fenton-like system dominated by nonhydroxyl radical could realize the mineralization of PAHs,organic carbon and organic chlorines instead of migration.This paper builds a basis for the selection of sludge conditioning methods.

Tuning alginate-bentonite microcapsule size and structure for the regulated release of P.putida Rs-198

In this study, different sizes of microcapsules with alginate and bentonite as natural macromolecular materials were prepared to investigate the release property of Pseudomonas putida Rs-198. The characteristics of three microcapsules were evaluated by SEM, FTIR, TG-DSC, XRD and wall thickness. The sizes of three microcapsules(MA, MB, and MC) were 1270.50, 831.79 and 42.52 μm, respectively. First, the encapsulation efficiency of three MA, MB, and MC microcapsules were 82.20%, 90.41%, and 85.84%, respectively.Second, the contact angles of MA and MB samples were similar, while smaller microcapsules MC have higher contact angle(85.05°), indicating poor hydrophilia and decreasing the swelling degrees. Third,the release cumulant of Rs-198 and macromolecule BSA linear stage was fitted to self-established mathematic model. Results show that the microcapsule size had a considerably positive effect on release detail. The large microcapsule possessed strong leak-tightness for Rs-198 as a slow-release microbial agent. Furthermore, the porosity of microcapsules determined their swelling and release and may affect bacterial growth and survival. In conclusion, the Rs-198 microcapsule with different sizes will be pertinently selected based on the characteristics of agricultural production requirements.

Effectively improving the extreme-pressure capacity of a class of intercalated zirconium phosphate materials

We studied different long-chain ammonium ions intercalated zirconium phosphate α-ZrP, methylamine intercalated ZrP(MAZrP), tetramethylammonium hydroxide intercalated ZrP(TMAH-ZrP), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide intercalated ZrP(DTAB-ZrP), and stearyl trimethyl ammonium bromide intercalated ZrP(STAB-ZrP) as grease co-additives in combination with isobutylene sulfide(SIB). The grease with co-additives displayed excellent extreme-pressure and anti-wear performance.Moreover, the combination of the longest chain ammonium ion intercalated zirconium phosphate, STAB-ZrP/SIB, had the best tribological properties. In comparison to α-ZrP, the advantage of STAB-ZrP was that it did not form a large area of the dense physical film like α-ZrP on the worn surface, but rather gave the SIB a chance to contact with the fresh metal surface to generate a chemical film. Therefore, the sub-micron physical film and nanoscale chemical film always exist side by side on the contact surface during the friction process. This intercalated α-ZrP/SIB additive has great potential for use in harsh operating conditions.

Preparation of pitch precursor with excellent spinnability for general-purpose carbon fibre using coal tar pitch as raw material

Tetrahydrofuran(THF) extract of coal tar pitch(CTP) was used instead of blending CTP with pretreated pyrolysis fuel oil to prepare an isotropic pitch precursor with excellent spinnability for general-purpose carbon fibre through bromination-dehydrobromination. The feasibility and effectiveness of synthesising an isotropic pitch precursor derived from THF-soluble(CTP-THFs) is demonstrated in this study.The results show that CTP-THFs contains more light components than CTP;CTP-THFs and CTP monomer proportions were 62.52% and 45.32%, respectively. However, based on comparisons of CTP-THFsBr0 and CTPBr0 characterisations, CTP-THFs exhibits better polycondensation than CTP. Bromination-dehydrobro mination promotes polycondensation of pitch precursors, leading to greater carbon aromaticity in CTP-THFsBr5, CTP-THFsBr10, and CTP-THFsBr15 than that in CTP-THFsBr0 and CTPBr0. CTP-THFsBr5 and CTP-THFsBr10 have excellent spinnability even with softening points as high as 230 ℃. The pericondensed carbon and carbon aromaticity of CTP-THFsBr5 and CTP-THFsBr10 are high owing to the higher degree of polycondensation;however, they still possess a more linear molecular structure. The as-prepared carbon fibre exhibits homogeneity and uniformity, and the mechanical performance is comparable with that of commercial general-purpose carbon fibre products.

Biodegradation of waste refrigerator polyurethane by mealworms

Refrigerator insulation replacement results in discarding a large amount of waste refrigerator polyurethane(WRPU).Insect larvae like mealworms have been used to biodegrade pristine plastics.However,knowledge about mealworms degrading WRPU is scarce.This study presents an in-depth investigation of the degradation of WRPU by mealworms using the micro-morphology,composition,and functional groups of WRPU and the egested frass characteristics.It was found that the WRPU debris in frass was scoured,implying that WRPU was ingested and degraded by mealworms.The carbon content of WRPU-based frass was lower than that of WRPU,indicating that mealworms utilized WRPU as a carbon source.The urethane groups in WRPU were broken,and benzene rings’C=C and C–H bonds in the isocyanate disappeared after being ingested by mealworms.Thermal gravimetric-differential thermal gravimetry analysis showed that the weight loss temperature of WRPU-based frass was 300°C lower than that of WRPU,indicating that the thermal stability of WRPU deteriorated after being ingested.The carbon balance analysis confirmed that carbon in the ingested WRPU released as CO_(2) increased from 18.84%to 29.80%,suggesting that WRPU was partially mineralized.The carbon in the mealworm biomass ingesting WRPU decreased.The possible reason is that WRPU does not supply sufficient nutrients for mealworm growth,and the impurities and odor present in WRPU affect the appetite of the mealworms.The microbial community analysis indicated that WRPU exerts a considerable effect on the gut microorganism of mealworms.These findings confirm that mealworms degrade WRPU.
