The increasing antibiotic treatment failure is attributed to the increasing emergence of drug-resistant bacteria,and the attachment of these bacteria to the surface of implantation materials often leads to dangerous bacterial biofilm formation on the implant ***,this creates an urgent need to develop new antibacterial material and antifouling ***(PDA),as a musselinspired material,has many advantageous properties,such as a simple preparation procedure,excellent hydrophilicity and biocompatibility,strong adhesive performance,easy functionalization,outstanding photothermal conversion effect,and strong quenching *** has increasingly attracted much interest not only for its adherence to virtually all types of surfaces but also as it provides a simple and versatile approach to functionalize material surfaces to obtain a variety of multifunctional *** this review,we mainly focus on the preparation and polymerization mechanism of PDA systems and then provide a compilation of several reports on the PDA surface modification of various nanomaterials and material surfaces,including metals,metal oxides,carbons,and ***,we summarize the advantages and disadvantages of polydopamine surface-modified nanomaterials.

Mercury is one of the major toxic pollutants and has many adverse effects on human health. The main mercury species in the environment or in living organisms are inorganic mercuric ion （Hg2＋） and organic methylmercury （CH3Hg＋）. Detection of the two mercury ions is a particularly active topic in the molecular sensing field during the past decade. However, efficient sensors that can sensitively detect and discriminate the two species are rare. In this work, we adopt the concept of restriction of intramolecular rotations which is the basis of aggregation induced emission, and design a molecular probe with pyridyl group as the chelating unit and 1,8-naphthalimide as the fluorescent unit for the detection of both Hg2＋ and CH3Hg＋. When the probe is free in solution, it exhibits weak fluorescence because free intramolecular rotations of the 1,8-naphthalimide moieties non-radiatively annihilate its excited state. However, upon coordination with Hg2＋ or CH3Hg＋, the rotation of 1,8-naphthalimide moieties would be restricted due to the chelation between 1,8-naphthalimide and Hg2＋ or CH3Hg＋, leading to significantly enhanced fluorescent emission. The response induced by Hg2＋ is much stronger than CH3Hg＋; but for specific detection of CH3Hg＋, we introduced a T-rich DNA fragment which could completely mask Hg2＋ in solution. Furthermore, we have employed the sensor for confocal imaging of rig2＋ and CH3Hg＋in immobilized cells. We expect the probe design tactics can be generally useful for sensing many other analytes.

Preparation of Nano-TiO_2 by Liquid Hydrolysis and Characterization of Its Antibacterial Activity

The nano-TiO_2 particles were prepared by liquid hydrolysis method and characterized using XRD. Its antibacterial activity against two representative bacterial, Escherichia eoli and Staphylococcus aureus, was also studied. The experimental results showed that the nano-TiO_2 caleinated at 600-700℃ contained the obvious anatase phase and exerted exeeUent antibacterial activity. The feature of antibacterial activity of nano- TiO_2 was non-strains specificity and exerted best antibacterial activity at concentration of 0.8 g/L.

Electrochemical reduction of molecular O2 to hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)offers a promising solution for water purification and environmental ***,we design a hierarchical free-standing single-Co-atom(with Co-N4 coordination)electrode for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)via a two-electron pathway to make H2O2 in acidic *** current density of the single-Co-atom electrode reached 51 mA/cm2 at 0.1 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode,lasting for more than 10 hours of continuous operation with H2O2 selectivity greater than 80%.Toward practical application,the single-Co-atom electrode was directly used to assemble an electrochemical cell to produce H2O2 at a rate of 676 mol/kgcat/h with a cell voltage of about 1.6 V.

Immunotherapy brings new hope for tumor treatment by inducing immunogenic cell death(ICD)of tumor ***,insufficient immunogenicity and low immune response rate greatly limit antitumor ***,by optimizing the composition and morphology,the rational design of Janus nanoparticles composed of Fe_(3)O_(4) nanospheres and SiO_(2)nanorods was realized for enhanced cancer immunotherapy through amplified *** glucose oxidase(GOx)was loaded by the Janus nanoparticles,the resultant M-FS-GOx consumes glucose at tumor sites to generate gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))for starvation therapy while the H_(2)O_(2)supply promotes the production of highly toxic·OH to achieve effective chemodynamic therapy(CDT).Under a 1064 nm light irradiation,the photothermal effect of M-FS-GOx enhances the enzyme activity of GOx for improved starvation ***,both tumor-associated antigens released during the process of ICD and the intrinsic immunoadjuvant property of M-FS-GOx stimulate dendritic cell maturation to activate antitumor immune *** work provides a promising strategy for the construction of Janus nanoparticles to achieve enhanced cancer immunotherapy through combination therapy-amplified ICD.

Conductive polymer fibers/wires(CPFs)are important materials in modern technologies due to their unique one-dimension geometry,electrical conductivity,and ***,the advanced applications of current CPFs are limited by their low electrical conductivities(<500 S/m)and poor interfacial interactions between conductive fllers(e.g.,graphite)and ***,in current electrical applications,metal wires/foils like copper and aluminum are the most frequently utilized conductive fibers/wires instead of the inferior conductive *** work successfully addresses the heavy phase segregation between polymers and conductive inorganic materials to obtain semiliquid metal polymer fibers(SLMPFs)which exhibit an ultrahigh electrical conductivity(over 10^(6)S/m),remarkable thermal processability,and considerable mechanical performance(Young's modulus:~300 MPa).Semiliquid metal(gallium-tin alloy)with tunable viscosities is the key to achieve the excellent miscibility between metals and *** the rheological results and numerical simulations demonstrate the critical viscosity matching for the successfui preparation of the *** importantly,the fibers are adapted with classic polymer melt-processing like melt injection,which indicates the scalable production of the highly conductive *** SLMPFs are highly promising substitutes for metal wires/fbers in modern electrical applications such as electricity transmission,data communication,and underwater works.

Ternary nanoparticle complex of ciprofloxacin exhibiting sustained release at gastric pH prepared by co-complexation with polyanions and an ionic amphiphile

Poor bioavailability of the broad spectrum antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) is caused by its narrow absorption window in the stomach. With the aim of prolonging the gastric reside nee time of CIP, we prepared a ternary nano particle complex (nan oplex) of CIP by co-complexation w ith polya nions (sodium dextran sulfate (DXT)) and an anionic amphiphile (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)). We investigated the effect of the charge ratio of DXT to SDS on the size, zeta potential, CIP payload, and CIP utilization rate of the CIP-DXTSDS nanoplex and its dissolution characteristics in simulated gastrointestinal fluids. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry analyses showed that the ternary nanoplex was made up of amorphous C1P-DXT and crystalline CIP-SDS complexes. The size of the CIP-DXT-SDS nanoplex prepared at a >90% CIP utilization rate was 110-290 nm and it had a zeta potential of -16-39 mV, and CIP payload of 47-62%, depending on the charge ratio. At gastric pH, the CIP-DXT-SDS nanoplex prepared with a DXT:SDS charge ratio lower than 80:20 exhibited prolonged CIP release (60% dissolution after 8 h) compared with native CIP (100% dissolution after 1 h) and a binary CIP-DXT nanoplex (80% dissolution after 5 h), which was attributed to its lower solubility. The sustained release characteristics of the CIP-DXT-SDS nanoplex were comparable to those of existing CIP gastrorete ntive formulations.
