Analysis of the land suitability for paddy fields in Tanzania using a GIS-based analytical hierarchy process

The importance of irrigation development is co.sidered a key factor for food security and poverty reduction because it improves crop productivity,and ensures stable expansion of agricultural ***,irrigation development requires understanding of the avail-able resources including the suitability of the land for *** this study,the land suitability for paddy fields was evaluated within the United Republic of Tanzania mainland by integrating the geographic information system(GIS)and analytical hierarchy process(AHP).In this study,11 criteria based on various sources(soil type,soil drainage,soil organic carbon,soil pH,soil depth,elevation,slope,land use,topographic wetness index,temperature,and precipitation)were *** criteria were used within the GIS-based AHP to identify the most suitable land for sustainable paddy field cultivation co.sidering the preservation of the natural environment of forests and protected areas by examining two scenarios:rainfed co.dition and irrigation *** former ten criteria were assumed to be co.stant in both scenarios and were assigned the same sco.es,while the latter criterion(precipitation)was assigned different sco.es for varying amounts to plan new irrigation *** land represents 72.8%of the study area,reducing the potential agriculture land(PAL)appropriate for cultivation to 27.2%.In the rainfed co.dition scenario,the very high and high suitability classes represent 17.6%of the total land of the study area and 64.7%of the *** the irrigation priority scenario,the same classes represent 21.4%of the total land of the study area and 78.6%of the ***,the distribution of the land suitability for both scenarios was analyzed within eight administrative irrigation zones to determine the irrigation zone with the greatest potential for paddy field cultivation.

Electrochemical degradation of acidified reed pulp black liquor with three-dimensional electrode reactor

The electrochemical degradation of reed pulp black liquor co.taining lignin pretreated by acidification method was investigated using a three-dimensional electrode reactor. Using activated carbon as particle electrode, the effects of p H value, reaction temperature, electrolysis time and current on residual co.centration of total organic carbon(TOC) were discussed in detail. The optimal co.ditions were obtained: pH 2.5, influent flow rate of 200 mL/min, 25 °C, 300 mA and 2h of electrolysis time, and the removal efficiency of TOC maintains at 35.57 %. The results of the electrochemical method indicate that ·OH radicals are produced in activated carbon anode in the electrolysis process and then adsorbed on the activated carbon surface. Microcell co.sists of ·OH radicals and the absorbed lignin. With the microcell reaction, the lignin is degraded, while the anodic polarized curve illustrates that the lignin is obviously oxidized in the anode. The co.tributions of direct and indirect electrolyses to the TOC removal ratio are about 50%, respectively.

Wedding Culture in 1930s Shanghai： co.sumerism, Ritual, and the Municipality

By the 1930s, a variety of forces were chipping away at the traditional Chinese wedding in urban centers like Shanghai. ＂New-style＂ weddings--with a bride in a white wedding dress--took place outside of the home and featured networks of friends, choice of one＇s spouse, autonomy from one＇s parents, and the promise of happiness and independence. With the publication of wedding portraits and detailed discussions of new-style wedding etiquette and its trappings, women＇s magazines further shaped the new-style bride as a co.sumer and an individual. Early reformers had envisioned the new-style ceremony as a streamlined and affordable alternative to traditional ceremonies, but for most city residents these weddings remained out of reach. After the Nationalist co.solidation of power in 1928, Shanghai was deemed a crucial site for the promotion of ritual reform and eco.omic restraint. Weddings were at the crux of this movement, which was buttressed by the Civil co.e of 1931 allowing children to legally marry without parental co.sent. New Life Movement group weddings came next. These ceremonies co.opted urban wedding culture in an attempt to frame the new-style wedding as a ritual of politicized citizenship under the Nationalist government. The tension between the popular, co.mercial, new-style wedding and the Nationalists＇ Spartan political vision, as played out in the market, is examined below.

Influence of Negative Bias Voltage on the Mechanical and Tribological Properties of MoS_2/Zr co.posite Films

MoS2/Zr co.posite films were deposited on the cemented carbide YT14 （WC＋14%TiC＋6%co. by medium-frequency magnetron sputtered and co.pled with multi-arc ion plated *** influence of negative bias voltage on the co.posite film properties,including adhesion strength,micro-hardness,thickness and tribological properties were *** results showed that proper negative bias voltage co.ld significantly improve the mechanical and tribological properties of co.posite *** effects of negative bias voltage on film properties were also put *** optimal negative bias voltage was -200 V under this experiment *** obtained co.posite films were dense,the adhesion strength was about 60 N,the thickness was about 2.4 μm,and the micro-hardness was about 9.0 *** friction co.fficient and wear rate was 0.12 and 2.1×10-7 cm3/N·m respectively after 60 m sliding operation against hardened steel under a load of 20 N and a sliding speed of 200 rev·min-1.

Searching Clue of the Relationship between the Alteration of Bioactive Ingredients and the Herbal “Property” Transformation from Raw Rehmanniae Radix (<i>Sheng-Di-Huang</i>) to Steam-Heating-Processed Rehmanniae Radix (<i>Shu-Di-Huang</i>) by Chromatographic Fingerprint Analysis

“Di-Huang” (Rehmanniae Radix) is a peculiar Chinese herbal drug, the fresh root named “Xian-Di-Huang” (“Xian” means fresh;the co.merce is now rarely available), mild-baking-dried raw roots “Sheng-Di-Huang” (“Sheng” means raw) and steam-processed “Shu-Di-Huang” (“Shu” implies steam-processed). The both kinds of herbal drug exert different efficiencies with different property acco.ding to the traditional clinical theory. It would be of interest that searching the clue of why the therapeutic functions of the same drug differ between the pre- and post-processing. To disclose the co.prehensive alteration of the iridoids, saccharides and phenylethanoids occurred between the raw and steam-processed “Di-Huang”, the HPTLC and HPLC chromatographic fingerprint analysis has been carried out. The results showed that in the raw crude drug, the iridoids like catalpol is the major bioactive co.ponents, and the oligosaccharides co.position kept rather co.sistent;however, in the steam-processed Di-Huang, iridoids was almost disappeared and the oligosaccharides were hydrolyzed gradually through the repeated steam-heating process. The worst case showed only fructose was detected with other minor residual co.ponents in the root tuber. It is due to presumably the unco.trollable steaming process in folk workshops. Defining reasonably the boundary between the “Sheng-Di-Huang” (mild-baking-dried Rehmanniae radix) and “Shu-Di-Huang” (steaming processed Rehmanniae radix) set up by chromatographic fingerprint pattern and standardizing the process would be necessary for assuring the co.sistent quality of the co.mercial herbal drugs.

Designing the highly catalytic activity and durable bifunctional catalysts toward oxygen reduction/evolution reaction(ORR/OER) is paramount for metal–air batteries. Metal–organic frameworks(MOFs)-based materials have attracted a great deal of attention as the potential candidate for effectively catalyzing ORR/OER due to their adjustable co.position and porous structure. Herein, we first introduce the Mn species into zeolitic-imidazole frameworks(ZIFs) and then further pyrolyze the Mn-co.taining bimetallic ZIFs to synthesize co.e-shell-structured co.co.N nanoparticles embedded into MnO-modified porous N-doped carbon nanocubes(co.co.N/MnO–NC). co.co.N/MnO–NC exhibits the outstanding catalytic activity toward ORR and OER which is attributed to its abundant pyridinic/graphitic N and co.N,the optimized co.tent of MnO species, highly dispersed catalytic sites and porous carbon matrix. As a result, the co.co.N/MnO–NC-based Zn–air battery exhibits enhanced performances, including the high discharge capacity(762 mA h gZn-1), large power density(200.5 mW cm-2), stable potential profile over 72 h, low overpotential(co.co.N/MnO–NC cathode-based Zn–air batteries are also designed which exhibit the superb electrochemical properties at different bending/twisting co.ditions.

Ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic stem cells

Ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs) would benefit clinical applications in several aspects, to improve patient survival, utilize co.d blood stem cells for adult applications, and selectively propagate stem cell populations after genetic manipulation. In this review we summarize and discuss recent advances in the culture systems of mouse and human HSCs, which include stroma/HSC co.culture, co.tinuous perfusion and fed-batch cultures, and those supplemented with extrinsic ligands, membrane transportable transcription factors, co.plement co.ponents, protein modification enzymes, metabolites, or small molecule chemicals. Some of the expansion systems have been tested in clinical trials. The optimal co.dition for ex vivo expansion of the primitive and functional human HSCs is still under development. An improved understanding of the mechanisms for HSC cell fate determination and the HSC culture characteristics will guide development of new strategies to overco.e difficulties. In the future, development of a co.bination treatment regimen with agents that enhance self-renewal, block differentiation, and improve homing will be critical. Methods to enhance yields and lower co.t during co.lection and processing should be employed. The employment of an efficient system for ex vivo expansion of HSCs will facilitate the further development of novel strategies for cell and gene therapies including genome editing.

Objective:To investigate the antifibrotic effects of Chrysanthemum indicum ethanol extract(CIEE)against activated hepatic stellate cells(HSC)and thioacetamide(TAA)-induced hepatofibrosis in ***:Cell viability and proliferation of HSC-T6 cells were measured using MTT *** HSCs were used to study ***(200 mg/kg)was used to induced hepatic fibrosis in ***(100 and 500 mg/kg)and silymarin(50 mg/kg)were administered *** functions including alanine transaminase,aspartate transaminase,glutathione,and hydroxyproline levels were measured using co.mercial *** sections and fibrotic biomarker expression were measured using hematoxylin and eosin staining and real-time polymerase chain ***:In vitro study revealed that CIEE(0.1,0.25,and 0.5 mg/mL)inhibited the proliferation of activated HSCs exposed to transforming growth factor(TGF)-β and restored the activated primary HSC *** in vivo studies,TAA-induced increase in liver/body weight ratio(5.46±0.26)was significantly reduced(4.13±0.22)by CIEE(P<0.05 at 500 mg/kg).CIEE(100 and 500 mg/kg)improved the liver functions by significantly attenuating changes in alanine transaminase,aspartate transaminase,glutathione,and hydroxyproline levels(P<0.05).Further,CIEE(100 and 500 mg/kg)ameliorated the histological changes in liver tissue and TGF-β expression significantly(P<0.05)in TAA-induced ***:CIEE significantly protects against TAA-induced liver damage in rats and can be used in the treatment of liver fibrosis.

Lithium (Li) metal batteries have attracted much attention owing to its ultra-high energy ***,as important part of Li metal batteries,Li anodes still face many challenges,mainly including unco.trolled dendritic Li formation,dramatical volume variation and serious ***,manganese dioxide (MnO_(2)) nanosheet modified nitrogen (N),phosphorus (P) co.doping carbon nanofibers(NPC) on carbon cloth (CC)(MnO_(2)@NPC-CC) is successfully fabricated through electrodeposition approach and further treated with Li by the molten-infusion method to prepare Li based Mn@NPC-CC(Li-Mn@NPC-CC) *** synergy of MnO_(2) and NPC obviously increases the reaction rate between MnO_(2)@NPC-CC and Li and guides even Li distribution over infusion ***,theoretical calculation,simulation and experimental results further indicate that N,P,Mn multi-doping effectively improves the superior lithiophilicity of Li-Mn@NPC-CC,which induces uniform Li deposition/dissolution to suppress dendrite growth over ***,co.ductive and porous NPC matrix not only effectively improves the stability of Li-Mn@NPC-CC,but also provides abundant spaces to accelerate the transfer of ion/electron and buffer electrode dimension variation during ***,Li-Mn@NPC-CC-based symmetric cells exhibit extra-long cycling life (over 2200 h) with small hysteresis of 20 *** the LiMn@NPC-CC anode co.ples with air,Li iron phosphate (LiFePO_(4)),or hard carbon (C) cathode,the assembled full cells exhibit outstanding performance with low hysteresis and stable cycling ***,the co.responding pouch-typed Li–air cells also exhibit good performance at different bending angles and even power a series of electronic devices.
