BACKGROUND Neuropathy may occur at some sites after catheterization for close examination of cardiac *** the radial artery is considered a relatively uncomplicated site for catheterization,the radial artery and median nerve are in relatively close proximity,with the risk of median nerve injury depending on the angle of *** purpose of this study was to report the outcomes of surgery performed for conservative therapy-resistant median neuropathy following forearm *** SUMMARY A 50-year-old woman experienced palsy from the right thumb to the radial side of the ring finger after catheterization from the radial artery of the right *** developed at the same site and a positive tinel-like sign was seen for the median nerve area at the high level of the puncture *** conduction study showed reduced compound muscle action potentials and loss of sensory nerve action *** did not improve despite pharmacotherapy and the patient gradually developed flexion restrictions of the index and middle *** nerve injury and associated flexor tendon adhesion was diagnosed,and the patient was referred for surgery at 3 mo after *** the same area was opened,no injury to the median nerve epithelium was obvious,but the area of the positive tinel-like sign was highly adherent to surrounding tissue and to the flexor digitorum superficialis of the index and middle *** surgery was terminated with adequate adhesion *** was initiated postoperatively,improving neurological symptoms and range of motion of the *** months after surgery,the patient returned to daily activities without *** This case provides the appropriate diagnosis and treatment for a suspected peripheral nerve injury.

This study of Mikasa City in 2001, which analyzed N flow between N production and N load in seven agricultural and settlement subsystems, i.e., paddy, onion, wheat, vegetable, dairy, chicken, and citizen subsystems, aimed to compare N flow in each subsystem, to determine the main sources of the N load, and to evaluate the influence of agricultural production and food consumption on N cycling in a rural area. The results showed that in Mikasa city, 38.5% of the N load came from point sources and the remainder from non-point sources with intensive vegetable farming imparting a serious N load. Because of the internal N cycling in the dairy subsystem, chemical fertilizer application was reduced by 70.2%, and 23.72 Mg manure N was recycled to the field; therefore, the N utilization efficiency was raised from 18.1% to 35.1%. If all the manure N in the chicken subsystem was recycled, chemical fertilizer application would be reduced by 8.1% from the present level, and the point sources of N pollution would be reduced by 20.8%.

Nurse odor perception in various Japanese hospital settings

Because unpleasant hospital odors affect the nursing environment,we investigated nurses'perceptions of the odors of various hospital settings:hospital rooms,nurse stations,and human waste disposal rooms to discard the urine,stools and diapers.A questionnaire based on the Japanese Ministry of the Environment's guidelines on odor index regulation was used to assess nurses'perceptions of odor intensity,comfort,tolerability,and description in the aforementioned *** were distributed to nursing department directors at three Japanese hospitals,who then disseminated the questionnaires to nursing *** the 1,151 questionnaires distributed,496 nurses *** waste disposal rooms had greater odor intensity and were perceived as more uncomfortable than the other *** odors in disposal rooms,hospital rooms,and nurse stations were rated as slightly intolerable in *** and disposal rooms were mainly described as having a“pungent odor such as of urine and stool.”In contrast,nurse stations were described as having other unpleasant odors,such as chemical,human-body-related,or sewage-like *** that nurses spend much of their time in hospital rooms and nurse stations,odor management in these two settings would likely improve nurses'working conditions at *** odors at nurse stations is *** improvements could have indirect effects on nurse turnover and burnout.

In the last five decades, attempts have been made to improve rumen fermentation and host animal nutrition through modulation of rumen microbiota. The goals have been decreasing methane production, partially inhibiting protein degradation to avoid excess release of ammonia, and activation of fiber digestion. The main approach has been the use of dietary supplements. Since growth-promoting antibiotics were banned in European countries in2006, safer alternatives including plant-derived materials have been explored. Plant oils, their component fatty acids,plant secondary metabolites and other compounds have been studied, and many originate or are abundantly available in Asia as agricultural byproducts. In this review, the potency of selected byproducts in inhibition of methane production and protein degradation, and in stimulation of fiber degradation was described in relation to their modes of action. In particular, cashew and ginkgo byproducts containing alkylphenols to mitigate methane emission and bean husks as a source of functional fiber to boost the number of fiber-degrading bacteria were highlighted. Other byproducts influencing rumen microbiota and fermentation profile were also described. Future application of these feed and additive candidates is very dependent on a sufficient, cost-effective supply and optimal usage in feeding practice.

Multiple lymphomatous polyposis(MLP)is an uncommon type of gastrointestinal lymphoma characterized by the presence of multiple polyps along the gastrointestinal *** of this entity is in fact considered the counterpart of gastrointestinal tract involvement for mantle cell lymphoma(MCL).To our knowledge,there have been no reports on[fluorine-18]-fluorodeoxy-glucose(18F-FDG)-positron emission tomography(PET)/computed tomography(CT)imaging for gastrointestinal MCL with *** present the results of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in a patient with gastrointestinal tract involvement of MCL showing continuous MLP from the stomach to the rectum and intestinal ***-PET/CT findings were false negative in typical MLP spreading widely over the gastrointestinal tract,but uptake was noted in large lesions with deep infiltration considered atypical as *** FDG-PET/CT imaging,the Ki-67proliferative index,which is a cell proliferation marker,showed neither correlation with the presence of uptake nor the maximum standardized uptake value.

Development of phenotyping system using low altitude UAV imagery and deep learning

In this study,a lightweight phenotyping system that combined the advantages of both deep learning-based panicle detection and the photogrammetry based on light consumer-level UAVs was proposed.A two-year experiment was conducted to perform data collection and accuracy validation.A deep learning model,named Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network(Mask R-CNN),was trained to detect panicles in complex scenes of paddy fields.A total of 13857 images were fed into Mask R-CNN,with 80%used for training and 20%used for ***,precision,recall,Average Precision(AP),and F1-score of the Mask R-CNN,were 82.46%,80.60%,79.46%,and 79.66%,respectively.A complete workflow was proposed to preprocess flight trajectories and remove repeated detection and ***,the evident changed in rice growth during the heading stage was visualized with geographic distributions,and the total number of panicles was predicted before *** average error of the predicted amounts of panicles was 33.98%.Experimental results showed the feasibility of using the developed system as the high-throughput phenotyping approach.

The first-principles calculation of the disordered Ll0 phase boundary for the Fe-Pd system is attempted by combining the FLAPW electronic structure total energy calculations and the cluster variation method via the cluster expansion method. The lattice vibration effects are taken into account based on the Debye-Gruneisen model within quasi-harmonic approximation. The transition temperature is reproduced with very high accuracy. However, the experimental congruent composition of disordered L10 phase that significantly deviates from 1.＂ 1 stoichiometry is not reproduced. Fulther calculations are attempted based on the phenomenological Lennard-Jones type pair potential, which is capable of introducing both tetragonality of the Ll0 ordered phase and additional configurational freedom because of the magnetic spins. The prelimi- nary calculations indicate that the tetragonality enhances the stability of the L10 ordered phase and the magnetic contributions also change the transition temperature. Despite these findings, the shift of the congruent composition still remains as a subject that needs further research. The electronic origin of the shifting of the congruent composition is briefly discussed.

A carbon-supported Ru catalyst, Ru/BP2000, is able to simultaneously convert cellobiose into sorbitol and gluconic acid. This reaction occurs as the result of hydrolytic disproportionation in water at 393 K under an Ar atmosphere, without bases or sacrificial reagents. In-situ XANES measurements suggest that the active Ru species involved is composed of partially oxidized Ru metal.
