The elastic scattering angular distributions of ^(13)C at 340 MeV and ^(14)C at 294 MeV and 342 MeV on a ^(208)Pb target,which correspond to approximately five times the Coulomb barriers,were measured at the Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou.The data were analyzed within the optical model and continuum-discretized coupled-channels(CDCC)framework,and the results of both calculations could effectively account for the experimental data.The differential cross sections of elastic scattering revealed no particular suppression at the Coulomb nuclear interference peak angles,suggesting that the breakup coupling effects on the elastic scattering angular distributions were negligibly small in this incident energy region.The contributions from the couplings with inelastic states to the elastic cross sections were of minor importance within the angular range covered by these experiments.

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is an unprecedented challenge for public health and has caused the loss of millions of lives worldwide.Hospital workers play a key role in averting the collapse of the health system,but the mental health of many has deteriorated during the pandemic.Few studies have been devoted to identifying the needs of workers on frontline duty.AIM To investigate dimensions of common emotional symptoms and associated predictors among Brazilian workers in a COVID-19 reference hospital.METHODS This is an observational study of the mental health of professionals in a COVID-19 hospital in the city of São paulo.We invited all hospital employees to respond to an online survey between July and August 2020,during the first peak of the pandemic.Data of 1000 participants who completed the survey were analyzed(83.9%were women and 34.3%were aged 30 to 40).Hospital workers selfreported the presence of symptoms of depression,anxiety,trauma-related stress,and burnout through the Patient Health Questionnaire-9,the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7,the Impact of Event Scale-Revised and the Mini-Z Burnout Assessment respectively.Responses were assembled and subjected to exploratory factor analysis to reveal workers’core emotional distress.Multiple linear regression models were subsequently carried out to estimate the likelihood of dimensions of distress using questions on personal motivation,threatening events,and institutional support.RESULTS Around one in three participants in our sample scored above the threshold of depression,anxiety,post-traumatic stress disorder,and burnout.The factor analysis revealed a three-factor structure that explained 58%of the total data variance.Core distressing emotional domains were avoidance and re-experience,depression-anxiety,and sleep changes.Regression analysis revealed that institutional support was a significant protective factor for each of these dimensions(βrange=-0.41 to-0.20,P<0.001).However,participants’personal motivation to work in healthcare

Bone regeneration is a critical area in regenerative medicine,particularly in orthopedics,demanding effective biomedical materials for treating bone defects.45S5 bioactive glass(45S5 BG)is a promising material because of its osteoconductive and bioactive properties.As research in this field continues to advance,keeping up-to-date on the latest and most successful applications of this material is imperative.To achieve this,we conducted a comprehensive search on Pub-Med/MEDLINE,focusing on English articles published in the last decade.Our search used the keywords“bioglass 45S5 AND bone defect”in combination.We found 27 articles,and after applying the inclusion criteria,we selected 15 studies for detailed examination.Most of these studies compared 45S5 BG with other cement or scaffold materials.These comparisons demonstrate that the addition of various composites enhances cellular biocompatibility,as evidenced by the cells and their osteogenic potential.Moreover,the use of 45S5 BG is enhanced by its antimicrobial properties,opening avenues for additional investigations and applications of this biomaterial.

The need for renewable energy sources has challenged most countries to comply with environmental protection actions and to handle climate change.Solar energy figures as a natural option,despite its intermittence.Brazil has a green energy matrix with significant expansion of solar form in recent years.To preserve the Amazon basin,the use of solar energy can help communities and cities improve their living standards without new hydroelectric units or even to burn biomass,avoiding harsh environmental consequences.The novelty of this work is using data science with machine-learning tools to predict the solar incidence(W.h/m^(2))in four cities in Amazonas state(north-west Brazil),using data from NASA satellites within the period of 2013-22.Decision-tree-based models and vector autoregressive(time-series)models were used with three time aggregations:day,week and month.The predictor model can aid in the economic assessment of solar energy in the Amazon basin and the use of satellite data was encouraged by the lack of data from ground stations.The mean absolute error was selected as the output indicator,with the lowest values obtained close to 0.20,from the adaptive boosting and light gradient boosting algorithms,in the same order of magnitude of similar references.

Background:Guidelines recommend that adolescents should accumulate an average of 60 min per day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA).However,using only this cut-off could hide important information.For instance,from a population-level point of view,increasing physical activity for those with no or low physical activity could provide more health benefits than increasing physical activity for those with intermediate levels.Also,including a more sensitive cut-point of≥1 days per week could be an additional strategy for identifying those with low access/opportunities for physical activity practice.Thus,the current study aims to estimate the prevalence of≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week among adolescents globally,and to describe any relevant gender inequalities.Methods:We used representative datasets from 146 countries/territories collected between 2003 and 2019.MVPA was self-reported.Participants were grouped into younger(≤14 years old)and older(>14 years old)adolescents.Crude Poisson regression models were used to identify the relative differences in≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week between boys and girls,and random-effects meta-analysis models were used to identify the pooled estimates.Analyses were stratified by country and region.Results:Approximately 80%of both younger and older adolescents reported≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week.This prevalence was≥94%in Europe and Central Asia and North America,while the estimates for the other regions were14y)=1.09(95%CI:1.08-1.10)).Conclusion:Approximately 8 out of 10 adolescents reported accumulating≥60 min of MVPA≥1 days per week,with notable differences between regions.Gender differences were observed in several countries,especially among the oldest adolescents.Priorities for physical activity promotion among adolescents

The gut microbiota is a complex community of microorganisms that inhabit the digestive tracts of humans,living in symbiosis with the host.Dysbiosis,characterized by an imbalance between the beneficial and opportunistic gut microbiota,is associated with several gastrointestinal disorders,such as irritable bowel syndrome(IBS);inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),represented by ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease;and colorectal cancer(CRC).Dysbiosis can disrupt the mucosal barrier,resulting in perpetuation of inflammation and carcinogenesis.The increase in some specific groups of harmful bacteria,such as Escherichia coli(E.coli)and enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis(ETBF),has been associated with chronic tissue inflammation and the release of pro-inflammatory and carcinogenic mediators,increasing the chance of developing CRC,following the inflammationdysplasia-cancer sequence in IBD patients.Therefore,the aim of the present review was to analyze the correlation between changes in the gut microbiota and the development and maintenance of IBD,CRC,and IBD-associated CRC.Patients with IBD and CRC have shown reduced bacterial diversity and abundance compared to healthy individuals,with enrichment of Firmicute sand Bacteroidetes.Specific bacteria are also associated with the onset and progression of CRC,such as Fusobacterium nucleatum,E.coli,Enterococcus faecalis,Streptococcus gallolyticus,and ETBF.Future research can evaluate the advantages of modulating the gut microbiota as preventive measures in CRC high-risk patients,directly affecting the prognosis of the disease and the quality of life of patients.

Given the frequent co-existence of an aggressive tumor and underlying chronic liver disease,the management of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients requires experienced multidisciplinary team discussion.Moreover,imaging plays a key role in the diagnosis,staging,restaging,and surveillance of HCC.Currently,imaging assessment of HCC entails the assessment of qualitative characteristics which are prone to inter-reader variability.Radiomics is an emerging field that extracts high-dimensional mineable quantitative features that cannot be assessed visually with the naked eye from medical imaging.The main potential applications of radiomic models in HCC are to predict histology,response to treatment,genetic signature,recurrence,and survival.Despite the encouraging results to date,there are challenges and limitations that need to be overcome before radiomics implementation in clinical practice.The purpose of this article is to review the main concepts and challenges pertaining to radiomics,and to review recent studies and potential applications of radiomics in HCC.

Fast synthesis of gold nanoparticles by cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet in the presence of Au+ions and a capping agent

Homogeneous gold nanoparticles were synthesized under atmospheric pressure using a nonthermal helium plasma jet in a single-step process.A current power supply was used to generate the plasma discharge rich in diverse reactive species.These species induce rapid chemical reactions responsible for the reduction of the gold salts upon contact with the liquid solution.In this study,spherical and monodispersed gold nanoparticles were obtained within 5 min of plasma exposure using a solution containing gold(Ⅲ)chloride hydrate(HAuCl_(4))as a precursor and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)as a capping agent to inhibit agglomerations.The formation of these metal nanoparticles was initially perceptible through a visible change in the sample's color,transitioning from light yellow to a red/pink color.This was subsequently corroborated by UVvis spectroscopy,which revealed an optical absorption in the 520-550 nm range for Au NPs,corresponding to the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)band.An investigation into the impact of various parameters,including plasma discharge duration,precursor and capping agent concentrations,was carried out to optimize conditions for the formation of well-separated,spherical gold nanoparticles.Dynamic light scattering(DLS)was used to measure the size of these nanoparticles,transmission electron microscopy(TEM)was used to observe their morphology and X-ray diffraction(XRD)was also employed to determine their crystallographic structure.The results confirm that homogeneous spherical gold nanoparticles with an average diameter of 13 nm can be easily synthesized through a rapid,straightforward,and environmentally friendly approach utilizing a helium atmospheric pressure plasma.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CovV-2)infection is associated with a hyperinflammatory state and lymphocytopenia,a hallmark that appears as both signature and prognosis of disease severity outcome.Although cytokine storm and a sustained inflammatory state are commonly associated with immune cell depletion,it is still unclear whether direct SARS-Cov-2 infection of immune cells could also play a role in this scenario by harboring viral replication.We found that monocytes,as well as both B and T lymphocytes,were susceptible to SARS-Cov-2 infection in vitro,accumulating double-stranded RNA consistent with viral RNA replication and ultimately leading to expressive T cell apoptosis.In addition,flow cytometry and immunofluorescence analysis revealed that SARS-Cov-2 was frequently detected in monocytes and B lymphocytes from coronavirus disease 2019(CoVID-19)patients.The rates of SARS-Cov-2-infected monocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from CoVID-19 patients increased over time from symptom onset,with SARS-CoV-2-positive monocytes,B cells,and CD4+T lymphocytes also detected in postmortem lung tissue.These results indicated that SARS-CoV-2 infection of blood-circulating leukocytes in covID-19 patients might have important implications for disease pathogenesis and progression,immune dysfunction,and virus spread within the host.

Epidemiological characteristics of live births with esophageal atresia in sao paulo State,Brazil,from 2005 to 2018

Background The estimated prevalence of esophageal atresia(EA)is 1 in 2500–4500 live births(LBs).Researchers have already identified risk factors,but the mechanisms are still unknown.The aim of this study is to identify EA prevalence trends and its risk factors in the São paulo State(SPS)population database.Methods We conducted a population-based study using all EA cases identified by the Live Births Information System across 14 years(2005–2018)to estimate EA prevalence trends in recent years,stratified by maternal age and SPS geographical clusters.We calculated the prevalence trends,regression coefficient(β),annual percent change(APC),and 95%confidence interval(CI).Results We found 820 EA cases among 8,536,101 LBs with a prevalence of 1.0/10,000 LBs in SPS,Brazil.There was no significant difference in distribution by sex.Among all the cases,the majority(65%)were Caucasian;51.8%were born at term;43%had weight of≥2500 g;95.4%were singleton;and 73.4%of births were by cesarean section.From 2005 to 2018,there was an increasing trend of EA prevalence(APC=6.5%)with the highest APC of 12.2%.The highest EA prevalence rate(1.7/10,000 LB)was found in the group with maternal age of≥35 years.No significant seasonal variation was found based on the conception month(p=0.061).Conclusions EA had an increasing prevalence trend in SPS,Brazil,in recent years,with the highest prevalence rate in the group with maternal age of≥35 years.No seasonality was observed.This population-based study is the first to summarize the current epidemiology of EA in SPS LB.
