Incidence and mortality of liver cancer in China in 2011

Background: Liver cancer is a common cancer with poor prognosis in China. In this study, the national population?based cancer registration data were used to evaluate and analyze liver cancer incidence and mortality in China in 2011 and provide a reference for liver cancer prevention and ***: We collected and evaluated the incidence and mortality data of liver cancer in 2011 from 177 cancer registries with qualiied data. These data were used in the inal analysis including calculating crude, standardized, and truncated incidences and mortalities, and estimated new liver cancer cases and deaths using age?speciic rates and the corresponding populations. The national census in 2000 and Segi's population were used for age?standardized ***: The estimates of new liver cancer cases and deaths were 355,595 and 322,416, respectively, in China in 2011. The crude incidence, age?standardized rate of incidence by Chinese standard population(ASRIC), and age?stand?ardized rate of incidence by world standard population(ASRIW) of liver cancer were 26.39/100,000, 19.48/100,000, and 19.10/100,000, respectively; the crude mortality, age?standardized rate of mortality by Chinese standard popula?tion(ASRMC), and age?standardized rate of mortality by world standard population(ASRMW) of liver cancer were 23.93/100,000,17.48/100,000, and 17.17/100,000, respectively. The incidence and mortality were higher in rural areas than in urban areas and higher in males than in females. The age?speciic incidence and mortality of liver cancer increased greatly with age, particularly after 30 years and peaked at 80–84 or 85+ ***: Liver cancer is a common cancer in China, particularly for males and residents in rural areas. Targeted prevention, early detection, and treatment programs should be carried out.

AIM To test whether Nox1 plays a role in typhlitis induced by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium(S. Tm) in a mouse *** Eight-week-old male wild-type(WT) and Nox1 knockout(KO) C57BL6/J(B6) mice were administered metronidazole water for 4 d to make them susceptible to S. Tm infection by the oral route. The mice were given plain water and administered with 4 different doses of S. Tm by oral gavage. The mice were followed for another 4 d. From the time of the metronidazole application, the mice were observed twice daily and weighed daily. The ileum, cecum and colon were removed for sampling at the fourth day post-inoculation. Portions of all three tissues were fixed for histology and placed in RNAlater for m RNA/c DNA preparation and quantitative real-time PCR. The contents of the cecum were recovered for estimation of S. Tm *** We found Nox1-knockout(Nox1-KO) mice were not more sensitive to S. Tm colonization and infection than WT B6 mice. This conclusion is based on the following observations:(1) S. Tm-infection induced similar weight loss in Nox1-KO mice compared to WT mice;(2) the same S. Tm CFU was recovered from the cecal content of Nox1-KO and WT mice regardless of the inoculation dose, except the lowest inoculation dose(2 × 106 CFU) for which the Nox1-KO had one-log lower CFU than WT mice;(3) there is no difference in cecal pathology between WT and Nox1-KO groups; and(4) there are no S. Tm infection-induced changes in gene expression levels(IL-1b, TNF-α, and Duox2) between WT and Nox1-KO groups. The Alpi gene expression was more suppressed by S. Tm treatment in WT than the Nox1-KO cecum. CONCLUSION Nox1 does not protect mice from S. Tm colonization. Nox1-KO provides a very minor protective effect against S. Tm infection. Using NOX1-specific inhibitors for colitis therapy should not increase risks in bacterial infection.

The use of a standardized Chinese herbal formula in patients with advanced lung cancer:a feasibility study

Objective： Increasing numbers of cancer patients are using Chinese herbs （CHs）. However, differences among prior studies make it difficult to draw firm conclusions about the clinical usefulness of any specific CH formula. The primary objective of this study was to establish the acceptability of taking a standardized CH formula for patients with advanced lung cancer. The secondary objective was to identify any toxicities attributable to this CH formula and to measure changes in quality of life. Methods： A single-arm, prospective study of a 6-week intervention with a selected CH formula in 15 patients with stage 4 nonsmall-cell lung cancer （NSCLC, Seventh American Joint Committee on cancer TNM staging system）. Results： Patients with advanced lung cancer were interested in using the CH formula. Completion （93%） and adherence （98%） levels were very high and most patients perceived the CH treatment as easy to take and were willing to take the CHs used in the study again if it was available. About half of the patients reported adverse events, all of which were mild （Grade 1 or 2） and only a small minority （8%） were poten- tially related to CHs. No biochemical or hematological evidence of toxicity was observed. Overall, there were improvement in quality of life, and reduced feelings of tiredness and sleepiness. Conclusion： This study provides preliminary evidence that short-term use of a carefully selected and pre- pared CH formula in patients with stage 4 NSCLC is acceptable and safe.

Although multiple options for the treatment of liver tumors have often been described in the past, including liver resection, radiofrequency ablation with or without hepatic pump insertion, laparoscopic liver resection and the use of chemotherapy, the potential of immunotherapy and gene manipulation is still largely *** therapy by gene manipulation is based on the interaction between virus-based gene delivery systems and dendritic cells. Using viruses as vectors, it is possible to transduce dendritic cells with genes encoding tumor-associated antigens, thus inducing strong humoral and cellular immunity against the antigens *** chemotherapy and radiation therapy have the disadvantage of destroying healthy cells, thus causing severe side-effects. We need more precisely targeted therapies capable of killing cancer cells while sparing healthy cells. Our goal is to establish a new treatment for solid liver tumors based on the concept of cytoreduction,and propose an innovative algorithm.

This article deals with analgesia by inhaling analgesic. According to Chinese medical theories, TCM analgesics were chosen from the literature and folk prescriptions screened and proved by analgesic tests on animals. A reasonable prescription was made up and the drug inhaled. Its analgesic effect was superior to that of dolantin injection (3 mg/ kg body weight, intraperitoneal injection). Clinical trials showed its analgesic effect in 3-10 minutes and it lasted for more than 2 hours in over 70% of the cases for a total effective rate of 94.6%. The drug is absorbed quickly and acts directly on the nerve center. Its use is not addictive.

Objective:The number of liver cancer patients in China accounts for more than half of the ***,China currently lacks national,multicenter economic burden data,and meanwhile,measuring the differences among different subgroups will be informative to formulate corresponding policies in liver cancer ***,the aim of the study was to measure the economic burden of liver cancer by various ***:A hospital-based,multicenter and cross-sectional survey was conducted during 2012・2014,covering 39 hospitals and 21 project sites in 13 provinces across *** questionnaire covers clinical information,sociology,expenditure,and related *** expenditure data were reported in Chinese Yuan(CNY)using 2014 ***:A total of 2,223 liver cancer patients were enrolled,of whom 59.61%were late-stage cases(III-IV),and 53.8%were hepatocellular *** average total expenditure per liver cancer patient was estimated as 53,220 CNY,including 48,612 CNY of medical expenditures(91.3%)and 4,608 CNY of non-medical expenditures(8.7%).The average total expenditures in stage I,H,m and stage IV were 52,817 CNY,50,877 CNY,50,678 CNY and 54,089 CNY(P>0.05),***-medical expenditures including additional meals,additional nutrition care,transportation,accommodation and hired informal nursing were 1,453 CNY,839 CNY,946 CNY,679 CNY and 200 CNY,*** one-year out-of-pocket expenditure of a newly diagnosed patient was 24,953 CNY,and 77.2%of the patients suffered an unmanageable financial *** analysis showed that overall expenditure differed in almost all subgroups(Ptreatment expenditure for liver cancer patients at different clinical stages,which suggests that maintaining efforts on treatment efficacy improvement is important but not *** fiirtherly reduce the overall economic burden from liver cancer,more effort should be
