An expert system prototype for fibre-reinforced plastic matrix (FRP) composite material design, ESFRP, has been developed. The system consists of seven main functional parts: a general inference engine, a set of knowledge bases, a material properties algorithm base, an explanation engine, various data bases, several function models and the user interface. The ESFRP can simulate human experts to make design scheme for fibre-reinforced plastics design, FRP layered plates design and FRP typical engineering components design. It can also predict the material properties and make strength analysis according to the micro and macro mechanics of composite materials. A satisfied result can be gained through the reiterative design.

Through introducing the Laplace transformation in the time direction, the mixed state Hamilton canonical equation and a semi-analytical solution are presented for analyzing the dynamic response of laminated composite plates. This method accounts for the separation of variables, the finite element discretization can be employed in the plane of laminar, and the exact solution in the thickness direction is derived by the state space control method. To apply the transfer matrix method, the relational expression at the top and bottom surface is established. So the general solution in transformation space is deduced by the spot method. By the application of inversion of Laplace transformation, the transient displacements and stresses can be derived.

The methods for determining electron beam direction and misorientation angle/axis of grain boundaries are described in this paper. The present methods are based on a series of diffraction spot patterns obtained by systematic tilt of the crystal, combined with simple mathematical calculations. instead of the use of Kikuchi patterns, the limitations resulting from the visibility or sharpness of Kikuchi lines and the number of Kikuchi pole(s) existed are avoided and a sufficient accuracy of determination has been achieved.

The process of the co-cementation layers of low temperature powder multicomponent thermochemical treatment with B-C-N-RE and the structure and properties were studied and compared with those of conventional boro-carbo-nitriding (B-C-N) by X-ray diffractometer, potentiostat and wear machine. The results show that rare earth elements have significant catalytic effect within proper limits. Both wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the B-C-N-RE co-cementation layer are greatly increased in comparison with those of the B-C-N. The function mechanism of rare earth elements is also discussed.

Two tests of refilling and reflooding in the horizontal geometry channel under different pressure conditions,respectively,are conducted to understand the thermal hydraulics behavior during a LOCA in the CANDU *** case of refilling a hot horizontal tube test and four cases of reflooding a horizontal fuel channel test series (35%and 60%break size of reactor inlet header with single-end injection or both-end injection,respectively) have been *** horizontal channel is simulated with the model splitting as parallel pipes with cross flow junction *** simulation results have been compared with the tests in terms of wall temperature or heated-pin surface *** results are reasonably acceptable and it shows that the code is applicable on horizontal channel quenching.

Discrete dipoles located near the crack tip play an important rolein nonlinear electric field induced fracture of piezoelectricceramics. A physico-mathematical model of dipole is constructed oftwo gen- eralized concentrated piezoelectric forces with equaldensity and opposite sign. The interaction between crack and electricdipole in piezoelectricity is analyzed. The closed form solutions,including those for stress and electric displacement, crack openingdisplacement and electric potential, are obtained. The function ofpi- ezoelectric anisotropic direction, p_α(θ)=cosθ+p_αsinθ, canbe used to express the influence of a dipole's direction. In the casethat a dipole locates near crack tip, the piezoelectric stressintensity factor is a power function with -3/2 index of the distancebetween dipole and crack tip.

Ship Hull Slamming Analysis with Nonlinear Boundary Element Method

A boundary element method is developed for calculating the flare ship hull slamming problem. The nonlinear free surface elevation and the linear element assumption are employed. The method has been verified by comparisons with results for the water entry of wedges with various deadrise angles. Numerical results show that the pressure distribution varies greatly with the ship hull with different curvilinear equations, and the slamming features are also different; From the numerical simulation, the authors found that the structural damage of the flare hull might be caused by the increasing hydrodynamic pressure over an extensive area on the flare when the upper part of the flare comes into contact with water.

The dynamics of a flexible manipulator is investigated in this paper. From the point of view of dynamic balance, the motion equations of a rotating beam with tip load are established by us ing Hamilton' s principle. By taking into account the effects of dynamic stiffening and dynamic softening, the stability of the system is proved by employing Lyapunov' s approach. Furthermore, the method of power series is proposed to find the exact solution of the eigenvalue problem The effects of rotating speed and tip load on the vibration behavior of the flexible manipulator are shown in numerical results.
