Endemics and endangered species in the biodiversity hotspot of the Shada Mountains, saudi arabia

Shada Mountains in saudi arabia, separated by Maleel Wadi into twin mountains（i.e., Shada Alalah and Shada Asfal）, are rich in biodiversity. We investigated the diversity of endemics and endangered species of the mountains based on the data collected from 38 stands falling in 8 elevational zones ranging from 500 to 2215 m a.s.l. Results indicated that 495 plant species falling in 314 genera and 76 families occurred in the Shada Mountains, including 19 endemic species and 43 endangered species, and accounting for 22% of the total flora in saudi arabia. Canonical correlation analysis indicated that physiographic features, particularly altitude play an important role in the frequency and abundance of species. Endemics were not evenly distributed in the Shada Mountains and mostly restricted in the elevation zone of 1000–1500 or ＆gt;1500 m a.s.l. When the altitude reached up to 2000 m a.s.l., the endemics decreased substantially due to the significantly low temperature. The endangered species existed three different distribution patterns：（i） most endangered species distributed in the altitudes of 1000–1800 m a.s.l.;（ii） endangered trees, lianas, and shrubs occupied the altitudes 1000–1300 m a.s.l.; and（iii） endangered subshrubs and herbs inhabited the altitudes 1500–2100 m a.s.l. The results demonstrated that the biodiversity of endangered species in the Shada Mountains is high and undisturbed by invasive species, and protective measures should be taken against human disturbances to the small-scale hotspot.

Facies Associations and Sequence Stratigraphy of the Toarcian Marrat Formation(saudi arabia) and Their Equivalents in Some Gondwanaland Regions

The Toarcian Marrat Formation is exposed in outcrops in central saudi arabia and displays a variety of clastic and carbonate facies associated with well-preserved depositional geometries. It is unconformably overlies the Triassic Minjur Formation and it in turn is overlaid by the Middle Jurassic Dhruma Formation. Thirteen lithofacies types can be identified that permit the recognition of five lithofacies associations in a mixed clastic/carbonate platform. These lithofacies range from low-energy peritidal, intertidal, and back-shoal to moderate-and high-energy shoal and foreshoal lithofacies associations. The Marrat Formation exhibits three depositional sequences, each sequence is grouped into a transgressive systems tract(TST) and a highstand systems tract(HST) and then bounded by sequence boundary surfaces(SBSs). The TSTs are generally identified in clastic tidal-flat beds and back-shoal wackestones, while the HST is generally recorded in the carbonate tidal-flat and shoal. The vertical succession of facies associations from peritidal to foreshoal depositional environments is indicative of a deepening upward and retrogradational systems tract, from Lower to Upper Toarcian. The correlation between the studied sections reveals a general shallowing towards the south and the similarities between the studied sequences and others in the arabian Gulf, the northern Neo-Tethys Plate, and Gondwanaland countries.

Evaluating the around and after Menopausal Symptoms and Personal Perception of Quality of Life among Women in Qatif, saudi arabia, Attending the Hospital and PHCs

Background: Menopause is a period where natural cessation of menses occurs, some quality of life characteristics changes with some symptoms associated with this time such as hot flushes and anxiety. Objective: To evaluate and specify the level of impact of these symptoms on the quality of life among women in the Qatif area, saudi arabia and to study the factors that may involve in their perception. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted of 151 women aged 40 - 60 years old interviewed at either hospital or PHCs, a translated and revised questionnaire of other studies with some adoption. Results: 151 women out of 200 participated in questionnaires, majority of them were highly educated having at least a bachelor’s degree around 80%, and around 75% of participants were either working or retired, with a moderate level of income and enjoying a good lifestyle 93% in around and 97% in the after menopause. With the majority, were not used hormones 95% or conceptive pills 91%, personal perception of health were high around 93% for around and 97.2% for after menopause with no significant statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusion: Perception and knowledge of menopause were very high, with no differences in the severity of symptoms of the four QOL domains for the around or after menopause among the participants. High level of education and increased level of income and knowledge of the participants may play an important role in the result, so further investigation is advised.

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices Regarding Diabetic Eye Disease among General Population in Medina City, saudi arabia

Background: Diabetic eye disease is known as a group of eye problems that diabetic patients may develop as a complication of diabetes and can lead to blindness. They may include Diabetic retinopathy (DR), Cataracts, and Glaucoma. Objectives: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) around diabetic eye disease in the general population including patients with DM and non-diabetic people in Medina City, saudi arabia. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study involving 385 participants via a self-administered online Questionnaire started in January 2023 in Medina, saudi arabia. Results: In total, 339 participants with ages ranged from 18 to more than 60 years with a mean age of 26.8 ± 12.6 years old completed the questionnaire. The majority were females (74.6%), singles (67.8%), and had a university level of education (54.6%). Most of the study participants were found to have poor knowledge levels (67%) in comparison to 33% who had an overall good knowledge of diabetic eye diseases. Knowledge level was found to be higher among old-aged participants and those with a family history of DM (P = 0.001, P = 0.049) respectively. Regarding participants’ attitudes and practices, the study showed good attitudes toward eye care practice for diabetics with half of the participants (50%) reporting self-awareness as a reason that made them undergo the first eye screening. Conclusion: Participants in the present study have poor knowledge and awareness level of diabetic eye disease. Furthermore, positive attitudes and perceptions have been revealed by the participants toward the practice of providing eye care for diabetics. .

Context:Prevalence of nutritional anemia among saudi female and children is evident and has been reflected in different studies,most of researchers conclude that there is a gap in dietary coun-seling in addition to the poor awareness of community about appropriate dietary habits;this study is trying to assess counseling behavior and training competency of family physician at primary health centers with respect to nutritional ***:Study objective is to assess general beliefs,practice,and level of training in coun-seling by family ***:This is a cross-sectional study design;data collected using self-administered questionnaire provided to the doctor at clinic ***:The most commonly learned counseling technique in order as follows motivational interviewing(68%),cognitive behavioral therapy(58%),and 15-Minute Hour approach(53%).Conclusion:This study confirms the presence of positive counseling beliefs and practices by family physicians;however,the result is also reflects the current reluctant state of family physicians in devoting ample time for nutritional anemia counseling.

Perception of persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus in saudi arabia

Purpose:To explore how perceptions of self-efficacy,health locus of control and outcome expectancy impact the adherence of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in saudi arabiato self-care ***:A descriptive correlation design was used to analyse self-report questionnaires completed by a convenience sample of Arabic-speaking individuals(n=30)with type 2 diabetes mellitus from King Abdulaziz Medical City in ***:More than half(53%)of participants reported high self-efficacy,and the majority(77%)valued health and believed that effective diabetes management was *** the vast majority(93%)of participants believed that their doctor influenced their diabetes management,90%and 80%also acknowledged themselves and God,respectively,as the health locus of *** who perceived that they or their doctors were in control of their health condition were more likely to adhere to self-care activities,such as follow a specific diet and perform foot care(p<0.05).Furthermore,female participants reported significantly greater adherence to medication than male participants(6.91±0.29 vs 5.14±2.44;p=0.02),and unmarried participants reported greater adherence to exercise than married participants(4.15±2.22 vs 1.60±1.43;p=0.001).Finally,self-efficacy had a significant,positive correlation with participants'adherence to exercise(r=0.491;p=0.006)and performing their foot care(r=0.586;p=0.001).Conclusion:Patients'perceptions of their health should be considered by healthcare providers to maximize adherence to effective self-care management.

The negative effects of natural disasters on human life exist from the foot and did not occur at a specific time but found since the creation of mankind. Humans coexist with extreme events all the time, only when the intensity of the event becomes greater than a certain level there is a resulting disaster. Small earthquakes occur all of the time with no adverse effects. Only large earthquakes cause disasters. Statistical analysis reveals that larger events occur less frequently than small events. Through the large number of seismic events, we find that at the end of the year may have a series of seismic events with different values depending on the strength of activity whether it is high or low on Richter scale and the assessment is only for the greatest value in a year even if recurring this value and the volume of dangerous increases and the frequency of their occurrence according to an ongoing activity, major disasters result from a small number of events and sustained results in a large and devastating event, and can be represented by these results and amounts On a log-scale which points are almost on a straight line and a clear indication of the evaluation event. Through previous data analysis we can understand the following events behavior for coordination and guidance on the development of evacuation plans on the expected future and use a Weibull equation to estimate the frequency of the event and the return again as a percentage for each event and the probability of the occurrence of a particular earthquake to some degree on the Richter scale in the sea during any period. Past records of earthquakes at the West Coast of the Kingdom of saudi arabia (Red Sea) for years 1913-2016 are used to predict future conditions concerning the annual frequency, the return period, the percentage probability for each event, and the probability of a certain-magnitude earthquake occurring in the region during any period.
