In order to achieve the large-scale application of manufactured sand in railway high-strength concrete structure,a series of high-strength manufactured sand concrete(HMC)are prepared by taking the manufactured sand lithology(tuff,limestone,basalt,granite),stone powder content(0,5%,10%,15%)and concrete strength grade(C60,C80,C100)as *** evolution of mechanical properties of HMC and the correlation between cubic compressive strength and other mechanical properties are *** to river sand,manufactured sand enhances the cubic compressive strength,axial compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete,while its potential microcracks weaken the flexural strength and splitting tensile strength of *** powder content displays both positive and negative effects on mechanical properties of HMC,and the stone powder content is suggested to be less than 10%.The empirical formulas between cubic compressive strength and other mechanical properties are proposed.

Rail weld irregularities are one of the primary excitation sources for vehicle-track interaction dynamics in modern high-speed *** can cause significant wheel-rail dynamic interactions,leading to wheel-rail noise,component damage,and *** researchers have employed the vehicle-track interaction dynamic model to study the dynamic interactions between wheel and rail induced by rail weld geometry ***,the cosine wave model used to simulate rail weld irregularities mainly focuses on the maximum value and neglects the geometric *** this study,novel theoretical models were developed for three categories of rail weld irregularities,based on measurements of the high-speed railway from Beijing to *** vertical dynamic forces in the time and frequency domains were compared under different running *** forces generated by the rail weld irregularities that were measured and modeled,respectively,were compared to validate the accuracy of the proposed ***,based on the numerical study,the impact force due to rail weld irrregularity is modeled using an Artificial Neural Network(ANN),and the optimum combination of parameters for this model is *** results showed that the proposed model provided a more accurate wheel/rail dynamic evaluation caused by rail weld irregularities than that established in the *** ANN model used in this paper can effectively predict the impact force due to rail weld irrregularity while reducing the computation time.

The paper presents experimental investigation results of crack pattern change in cement pastes caused by external sulfate attack(ESA).To visualize the formation and development of cracks in cement pastes under ESA,an X-ray computed tomography(X-ray CT)was used,i e,the tomography system of Zeiss Xradia 510 *** results indicate that X-CT can monitor the development process and distribution characteristics of the internal cracks of cement pastes under ESA with attack *** addition,the C3A content in the cement significantly affects the damage mode of cement paste specimens during sulfate *** damage of ordinary Portland cement(OPC)pastes subjected to sulfate attack with high C3A content are severe,while the damage of sulfate resistant Portland cement(SRPC)pastes is much smaller than that of OPC ***,a quadratic function describes the correlation between the crack volume fraction and development depth for two cement pastes immermed in sulfate solution.

A new characterization technique,a repeated load CBR test,was used to evaluate the resilient properties recycled mix-granulate unbound base material. This is a mixture of crushed concrete and crushed masonry,so recycled demolition waste,this is used on a wide scale in the Netherlands as road base material. The repeated load CBR test,done with standard CBR testing facility,was conducted to estimate the resilient modulus. For comparison and assessment purposes the tests were carried out with the same material conditions (composition,grading,moisture and compaction degree) as have been applied in earlier triaxial testing in the road and railway engineering Laboratory,Delft University of Technology. The results indicate that the repeated load CBR test yields a good estimate of the stress dependent equivalent modulus for the sample material as bulk,which can be used in mechanistic pavement analysis in the absence of triaxial test results.

The role of copper element has been an increasingly relevant topic in recent years in the fields of human and animal health, for both the study of new drugs and innovative food and feed supplements. This metal plays an important role in the central nervous system, where it is associated with glutamatergic signaling, and it is widely involved in inflammatory processes. Thus, diseases involving copper(Ⅱ) dyshomeostasis often have neurological symptoms, as exemplified by Alzheimer's and other diseases(such as Parkinson's and Wilson's diseases). Moreover, imbalanced copper ion concentrations have also been associated with diabetes and certain types of cancer, including glioma. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive overview of recent results that show the importance of these metal ions in several pathologies, mainly Alzheimer's disease, through the lens of the development and use of copper chelators as research compounds and potential therapeutics if included in multi-target hybrid drugs. Seeing how copper homeostasis is important for the well-being of animals as well as humans, we shortly describe the state of the art regarding the effects of copper and its chelators in agriculture, livestock rearing, and aquaculture, as ingredients for the formulation of feed supplements as well as to prevent the effects of pollution on animal productions.

In this paper, the vibration influence on a monument caused by Chengdu Subway Line 2 is analyzed. Due to its elaborate and unique design, both structural and architectural damages should be avoided. First, the allowable root mean square （RMS） velocity at the foundation of the monument is derived and a site measurement is performed to obtain the background vibrations induced by road traffic. In addition, a train-track coupled model and 3D tunnel-soil-structure coupled finite element models are built to predict the dynamic response of the monument. Prediction models are checked by site measurement in Beijing Subway Line 5. Different kinds of fasteners and train speeds are compared and discussed as well. Results show that：（1） At a train speed of 72 km/h, all the traffic vibrations exceed the low limit no matter what kind of fastener is used, which is mainly due to the contribution of road traffic. Slowing down train speeds can cause effective vibration attenuation; （2） Vibrations drop dramatically with the train speed from 65 to 58 km/h. When the train speed is lower than 58 krn/h, vibrations are lower than allowable value even if the contribution of road traffic is considered.

Using the software ANSYS-19.2/Explicit Dynamics,this study performedﬁnite-element modeling of the large-diameter steel pipeline cross-section for the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline with a non-through straight crack,strengthened by steel wire *** effects of the thread tensile force of the steel winding in the form of single rings at the crack edges and the wires with different winding diameters and pitches were also *** results showed that the strengthening was preferably executed at a minimum value of the thread tensile force,which was 6.4%more effective than that at its maximum *** analysis of the inﬂuence of the winding dia-meters showed that the equivalent stresses increased by 32%from the beginning of the crack growth until the wire *** increment in winding diameter decelerated the disclosure of the edge crack and reduced its length by 8.2%.The analysis of the inﬂuence of the winding pitch showed that decreasing the distance between the winding turns also led to a 33.6%reduction in the length of the straight crack and a 7.9%reduction in the maximum stres-ses on the strengthened pipeline *** analysis of the temperature effect on the pipeline material,within a range from-40℃ to+50℃,resulted in a crack length change of up to 5.8%.As the temperature dropped,the crack length *** such a temperature range,the maximum stresses were observed along the cen-tral area of the crack,which were equal to 413 MPa at+50℃ and 440 MPa at-40℃.The results also showed that the presence of the steel winding in the pipeline signiﬁcantly reduced the length of crack propagation up to 8.4 times,depending on the temperature effect and design parameters of *** work integrated the existing methods for crack localization along steel gas pipelines.

Seismic surges and landslides are both major secondary mountain hazards during an earthquake. This paper investigates earthquake-and landslide-induced composite surges through largescale shaking table water tank model experiments. A series of tests were conducted for various initial water depths, peak ground accelerations, slide impact velocities, and slide volumes. Based on the results of the tests, the effects of these parameters on the maximum wave heights of the earthquake-and landslide-induced composite surges were analyzed. An amplification coefficient of seismic surges was defined, and the prediction equation for the amplification coefficient was developed through nondimensional multiple linear regression analysis. Then, an empirical equation for the maximum wave heights of the composite surges was developed based on the amplification coefficient and Demirel's method. This equation provides a calculation method for earthquake-and landslide-induced composite surge waves.

Excessive underground train-induced vibration becomes a serious environmental problem in *** investigate the vibration transfer from an underground train to a building nearby,an explicit-integration time-domain,three-dimensional finite element model is *** underground train,track,tunnel,soil layers and a typical multi-story building nearby are all fully coupled in this *** complex geometries involving the track components and the building are all modelled in detail,which makes the simulation of vibration transfer more realistic from the underground train to the *** model is validated with in-situ tests data and good agreements have been achieved between the numerical results and the experimental results both in time domain and frequency *** proposed model is applied to investigate the vibration transfer along the floors in the building and the influences of the soil stiffness on the vibration characteristics of the track-tunnel-soil-building *** is found that the building vibration induced by an underground train is dominant at the frequency determined by the P2 resonance and influenced by the vibration modes of the *** vertical vibration in the building decreases in a fluctuant pattern from the foundation to the top floor due to loss of high frequency contents and local *** vibration levels in different rooms at a same floor can be different due to the different local stiffness.A room with larger space thus smaller local stiffness usually has higher vibration *** soil layers make the tunnel lining and the building have more low frequency *** influence of the soil stiffness on the amplification scale along the floors of the building is found to be nonlinear and frequency-dependent,which needs to be further investigated.

Damming of Large River by Debris Flow: Dynamic Process and Particle Composition

The frequency and extent of debris flows have increased tremendously due to the extreme weather and the Wenchuan earthquake on May 12, 2008. Previous studies focused on the debris flow from gullies damming the mountain streams. In this paper, an equation for the run-out distance of debris flow in the main river is proposed based on the dynamic equation of debris flow at different slopes given by Takahashi. By undertaking field investigations and flume experiments, a new calculation method of the volume of debris flow damming large river is obtained. Using the percolation theory and the renormalization group theory it was deduced that the large particles should comprise more than 50% for forming a stable debris flow dam. Hence, the criteria of damming large river by debris flow is presented in terms of run-out distance and grain composition which was then validated through the event of damming river by debris flow at Gaojia gully, the upper reaches of the Minjiang River, Sichuan, China, on July 3, 2011.
