Alternative beneficiation of tantalite and removal of radioactive oxides from ethiopian Kenticha pegmatite–spodumene ores

The beneficiation methods for ethiopian Kenticha pegmatite–spodumene ores were assessed through mineralogical and quantitative analyses with X-ray diffraction（XRD） and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence（EDXRF）. The tantalite in the upper zone of the Kenticha pegmatite–spodumene deposit is 58.7wt% higher than that in the inner zone. XRD analysis revealed that the upper zone is dominated by manganocolumbite, whereas the inner zone is predominantly tantalite-Mn. Repeated cleaning and beneficiation of the upper-zone ore resulted in concentrate compositions of 57.34wt% of Ta_2O_5 and 5.41wt% of Nb_2O_5. Washing the tantalite concentrates using 1vol% KOH and 1 M H_2SO_4 led to the removal of thorium and uranium radioactive oxides from the concentrate. The findings of this study suggest that the beneficiation and alkaline washing of Kenticha pegmatite–spodumene ores produce a high-grade export-quality tantalite concentrate with negligible radioactive oxides.

Assessment of ecological fitness of woody species across land use is critical issues in degraded land ***,little is known about AGBC stored capacity,important value and distribution index of woody species grows in exclosure and adjacent open ***,this research is aimed to(i)analyse impact of exclosure on AGBC(ii)ecological fit species.A random sampling method was *** sample plots(50m*50m)were *** stocks(mean±SE)of woody species in adjacent open grazing and exclosure land use of GW site was 0.11±0.07 and 1.24±0.27Mg ha^(-1) *** in adjacent open grazing and exclosure land use of WG site,the value was 0.27±0.03 and 2.79±0.27Mgha^(-1) *** both site exclosure land uses,the proportion of rare,occasional and common woody species were better than their adjacent open grazing *** lustanica from open grazing and Vernonia auriculifera from exclosure land use of WG as well as Croton macrostachyus from open grazing and Leucaena leucocephala fromexclosure land use of GWsite were recorded as top ecologically fit *** is recommended to protect degraded lands via integrating ecologically adapted native species and fully used their diversity to achieve the potential benefits of land restoration.

Effects of grazing intensity to water source on grassland condition, yield and nutritional content of selected grass species in Northwest ethiopia

Background:Savanna grasslands are globally important ecosystems consisting of one of the most extensive grazing lands with unique *** objectives of the study were to assess the effect of grazing intensity on grassland ecosystem condition,herbaceous plant biomass production,and nutritional content of selected grass ***:The study was conducted at Chagni Ranch,Northwest *** transects to water source point at regular intervals of 20m between sampling plots along transects were used for data *** distance between the four transects was 200m in *** were collected on grass composition,basal cover,litter cover,number of seedlings,and age distribution of dominant grasses(i.e.,young,medium,or old in terms of stage of maturity),soil condition in terms of soil compaction,and soil erosion linked to the effects of trampling by grazing animals along transects(hereafter referred to as transect)to water source *** total sample size for grass species was 160 *** grassland ecosystem condition,herbaceous biomass,and grass nutritional content were used as response variables linked to transect from water source *** effects of transect on grassland ecosystem condition scores and grass nutritional content were analyzed using the analysis of variance(ANOVA).Results:Grassland condition factors like grass composition,basal cover,litter cover,age distribution of dominant grasses,and soil condition were significantly(P<0.05)higher for the furthest transect to water source point than nearest *** of the 28 identified herbaceous species,grasses accounted for 64.3%of the herbaceous *** grass species,about 55.6%were highly desirable in terms of palatability and grazing value(as most palatable species are susceptible to heavy grazing intensity).The results showed a significantly(P<0.05)higher proportion of perennial grasses at the furthest transect to water source point than nearest *** dry matter yi

Effects of nitrogen, phosphorus and vermicompost on groundnut yield in Babile District, eastern ethiopia

Groundnut is a major cash crop for smallholder farmers in several districts of eastern ethiopia with low yield. Little or no fertilizer was applied for the crop possibly because no generic or recommended fertilizer and technology were available. Therefore, field experiments were conducted for 2 consecutive cropping seasons in Babile District, to investigate effects of applying mineral N and P fertilizer and vermicompost (VC) on seed yield and oil content of groundnut using an improved variety ‘BaHa-Gudo’. Treatments consisted of nitrogen (0,23 and 46 kg N/ha), phosphorus (0,46 and 92 kg P2O5/ha) and VC (0,2.5 and 5 t VC/ha). Results revealed that yield attributes, seed yield and seed oil content were significantly (p < 0.01) affected by fertilizers. Seed yield after combined application of 46 kg N, 46 kg P2O5 and 2.5 t VC/ha increased by about 113% compared to seed yield without any fertilizers. Enhancement in seed oil content at the aforementioned rate was 7.0%. It could, thus, be concluded that applying the aforementioned fertilizers would enable farmers to increase seed yield and oil content of groundnut for enhancing their income and livelihoods in the study area.
