Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of vision loss in the working-age population and is relatedto 1%-5% of cases of blindness worldwide. Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the most frequent cause of DR vision loss and is an important public health problem. Recent studies have implicated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in DR and DME pathogenesis, as well as provided evidence of the benefits of anti-VEGF agents for the management of such conditions. Despite the benefits of intravitreal ranibizumab injection for the management of DME, the cost-effectiveness of intravitreal bevacizumab therapy has gained increasing interest in the scientific community. This review summarizes the studies examining bevacizumab for the management of DME, focusing on the efficacy and duration of the clinical benefits of decreasing DME and the improvement of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). There is strong evidence that intravitreal bevacizumab injection therapy has a good cost-effective profile in the management of DME and may be associated with laser photocoagulation; however, its clinical superiority in terms of the duration of DME regression and the improvement of BCVA compared with intravitreal ranibizumab and other intravitreal anti-VEGF therapies remains unclear and deserves further investigation.

AIM: To explore an improved procedure involving incomplete fluid-air exchange for idiopathic macular hole(IMH), and the closure rate, visual function, and the visual field of macular holes(MHs) were ***: This prospective randomized controlled study, included 40 eyes of 40 patients with IMH who were treated with pars plana vitrectomy and peeling of the internal limiting membrane. They were grouped by random digital table. Twenty-one eyes underwent incomplete fluidair exchange(IFA) and 19 eyes underwent traditional complete fluid-air exchange(CFA) as the control group. Outcomes included best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA), intraocular pressure, and optical coherence tomography, light adaptive electroretinography, and visual field ***: All MHs 0.05).CONCLUSION: IFA is a reliable method that offers comparable closure rate to CFA and facilitates improvements in visual function.

BACKGROUND In this paper,we present a 9-year-old boy who demonstrates a complex interplay between myopia progression,axial length(AL)extension,and retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thickness loss in both ***,concurrent optic neuritis has directly impacted RNFL thickness in his right eye,and its potential indirect influence on RNFL and macular ganglion cell layer(mGCL)thickness in his left eye is also *** SUMMARY A 9-year-old boy with bilateral myopia presented with diminished vision and pain in his right eye due to optic neuritis,while his left eye showed *** therapy improved his vision in the right eye,and 16-mo follow-up revealed recovery without recurrence despite myopia ***-up optical coherence tomography conducted 16 mo later revealed a notable thinning of the RNFL in both eyes,especially along with a reduction in mGCL thickness in the left *** intricate interaction between optic neuritis,myopia,and retinal changes underscores the need for comprehensive management,highlighting potential long-term visual implications in young *** The progression of myopia and AL extension led to the loss of RNFL thickness in both eyes in a 9-year-old ***,optic neuritis directly affected RNFL thickness in his right eye and may indirectly play a role in the thickness of RNFL and mGCL in his left eye.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Xuebijing injection(XBJ)on coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in ***:Related studies on multiple biological databases and websites were searched up to December 11,2021 without language and publication time *** Manager V.5.3 and Stata 14 software were used for data ***:Seven studies were finally *** Meta-analysis showed that compared with the routine treatment alone,XBJ combined with the routine treatment can reduce the 28-day mortality(OR=0.3,95%CI:0.12,0.74),C-reactive protein(MD=-12.8,95%CI:-23.13,-3.46),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(MD=-9.32,95%CI:-14.66,-3.98)and interleukin-6(SMD=-0.6,95%CI:-1.04,-0.17)levels and increase the leukocyte(MD=0.73,95%CI:0.42,1.04)and lymphocyte count(MD=0.18,95%CI:0.07,0.29)in peripheral blood;additionally,it has no obvious side effects(OR=1.11,95%CI:0.65,1.9).There was no evidence that the XBJ combined therapy can improve the nucleic acid conversion rate and computed tomography improvement rate of COVID-19 ***:Preliminary evidence suggests that XBJ combined with routine treatment seems to be more effective than routine treatment for patients with *** by the number and quality of included papers,this finding still needs further validation by more studies.

The purpose of the present study was to analyze the clinical phenotypes of a girl with oculo-facio-cardio-dental(OFCD)syndrome and to identify the potential pathogenic mutation responsible for her disease. The patient underwent detailed clinical examinations and phenotype data were collected over a follow-up period of 9 years. Mutation analysis of the candidate gene BCOR was performed with polymerase chain reaction and Sanger sequencing. BCOR of 60 unrelated normal individuals were also sequenced as a control group. Clinical phenotyping and follow-up study results indicate that this patient had multiple system anomalies including ocular, facial, cardiac, dental, and limb malformations. In addition, papilloma of the choroid plexus was identified, which represents the first report of this phenotype in an OFCD patient. A novel deletion mutation, c.1296 delT in exon4 of the BCOR gene, was identified in this patient and was not found in her parents or in 60 normal unrelated individuals. This deletion was a frameshift mutation and is proposed to encode a premature stop codon, thus producing a truncated protein. Our patient fitted the diagnostic criteria for OFCD syndrome and we report the first papilloma of the choroid plexus in an OFCD patient, expanding the recognized phenotypic spectrum of this disease. Meanwhile, we identified a novel deletion mutation that may cause OFCD syndrome.

AIM:To analyse macular microvascular alterations in myopic choroidal neovascularization(m CNV)and the efficiency of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(antiVEGF)therapy for m CNV by optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA).METHODS:A total of 123 patients were included in this retrospective study,divided into m CNV group,high myopia(HM)group,and normal group at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from January 2017 to January *** vessel density,deep capillary density,foveal avascular zone(FAZ)area,A-circularity index(AI)and vessel density around the 300μm width of the FAZ region density(FD)and the area of choroidal neovascularization(CNV)lesion(only for m CNV group)were measured on 3×3 mm2 OCTA *** area was corrected for axial *** macular thickness(CMT)was measured on OCT in m CNV *** the parameters on OCTA of 3 groups and pre-anti-VEGF and post-anti-VEGF at 1,2,3,and 6 mo follow-up in m CNV ***:There were significant differences among 3 groups in superficial vessel density,deep capillary density and FD(P<0.05).FAZ area in HM group was smaller than normal group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between m CNV group and the other two *** increased in m CNV group(P<0.05).The mean CMT,area and flow area of CNV lesion decreased after treatment(P<0.05),while vessel density and FAZ didn’t *** mean CMT,area and flow area of CNV lesion statistically decreased after anti-VEGF treatment in m CNV group(P<0.05),while superficial vessel density,deep capillary density and FAZ area,AI and FD didn’t *** mean reduction ratio of lesions was 50.32%(7.07%to 100%).Lesion regression 100%was observed in 2 cases(4.88%).There was a negative correlation between the CNV lesion area and reduction ratio(r=-0.380,P=0.042)and the flow lesion area and reduction ratio(r=-0.402,P=0.030).CONCLUSION:Macular vessel density decreases,FAZ turns smaller and more irregular in m CNV ***

Purpose: To report the significant worsening of Vitreomacular Traction (VMT), following the intravitreal injection of Bevacizumab (Avastin) in an Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) eye;thereby raising the awareness of this possibility. Method: Retrospective observational case report. Results: After 3 monthly doses of intravitreal injection of 1.25 mg/0.05 cc bevacizumab for treatment of AMD, a post injection OCT revealed the presence of VMT and an increased central macular thickness (CMT) by additional 268 microns compared to pre injection levels. Conclusion: Worsening of VMT and increase in CMT following injection of intravitreal drugs can occur. This VMT worsening effect of intravitreal injections is under recognized. It demands greater attention since it is seen with a new common route of ocular drug delivery and may be responsible for cases of pharmacological failure.
