Utilisation of smoking cessation aids among South African adult smokers:findings from a national survey of 18208 South African adults

Relationship of Aboriginal family wellbeing to social and cultural determinants,Central Australia:‘Waltja tjutangku nyakunytjaku’

Objective The objective of this study was to apply a strength-based approach to examine the relation of cultural and social determinants to high family functioning for Aboriginal people in Central *** Cross-sectional study involving a quantitative analysis of survey *** rate ratios(PRs)and 95%CIs were calculated from binomial regressions,adjusted for gender and *** data from workshops with Aboriginal leaders in Central Australia supported the interpretation of the research *** The study involved 639 Aboriginal people in Central Australia who participated in the Mayi Kuwayu *** Overall,57.9%(370/639)of participants reported high/very high family functioning,16.9%(108/639)reported moderate and 13.3%(85/639)reported *** adjusted prevalence of family functioning was similar across gender,age groups and household *** functioning was associated with lower family financial status(aPR=0.74,95%CI=0.60 to 0.91)and receiving welfare(0.88,0.77 to 1.00).Family functioning was greater with high community cohesion(2.72,1.68 to 4.39),high individual agency in community(2.15,1.63 to 2.85);having an Aboriginal language as a first language(1.20,1.04 to 1.37);speaking your Aboriginal language a lot(1.37,1.12 to 1.68);high exposure to cultural practice and knowledge(1.45,1.28 to 1.65);and multigenerational or extended family households(1.19,1.02 to 1.38).Conclusion High family functioning is a strength in Central Australia and is intrinsically connected with *** providers and programmes that build on the foundations of culture and family are an important approach to improving wellbeing.

Salient concerns in using analgesia for cancer pain among outpatients: A cluster analysis study

AIM To identify unique clusters of patients based on their concerns in using analgesia for cancer pain and predictors of the cluster *** This was a 3-mo prospective observational study(n = 207).Patients were included if they were adults(≥ 18 years), diagnosed with solid tumors or multiple myelomas, and had at least one prescription of around the clock pain medication for cancer or cancer-treatment-related *** were recruited from two outpatient medical oncology clinics within a large health system in Philadelphia.A choice-based conjoint(CBC) analysis experiment was used to elicit analgesic treatment preferences(utilities).Patients employed trade-offs based on five analgesic attributes(percent relief from analgesics, type of analgesic, type of sideeffects, severity of side-effects, out of pocket cost).Patients were clustered based on CBC utilities using novel adaptive statistical *** logistic regression was used to identify predictors of cluster *** The analyses found 4 unique clusters: Most patients made trade-offs based on the expectation of pain relief(cluster 1, 41%).For a subset, the main underlying concern was type of analgesic prescribed, i.e., opioid vs non-opioid(cluster 2, 11%) and type of analgesic side effects(cluster 4, 21%), *** one in four made trade-offs based on multiple concerns simultaneously including pain relief, type of side effects, and severity of side effects(cluster 3, 27.5%).In multivariable analysis, to identify predictors of cluster membership, clinical and socioeconomic factors(education, health literacy, income, social support) rather than analgesic attitudes and beliefs were found important; only the belief, i.e., pain medications can mask changes in health or keep you from knowing what is going on in your body was found significant in predicting two of the four clusters [cluster 1(-); cluster 4(+)].CONCLUSION Most patients appear to be driven by a single salient concer

Dear Editor This has reference to the commentary ＇Growth inhibition prop-rties of the putative prostate cancer biomarkers PSP94 and CRISP- 3＇ by van Eynde et al. published online in your journal in 2010.1 PSP94 and CRISP-3 are both secretory proteins. Identifying cell surfacebinding sites for both these molecules and understanding the downstream signaling would unravel their role（s） in prostate cancer. Gelatin based adhesives have been used in the last decades in different biomedical applications due to the excellent biocompatibility,easy processability,transparency,non-toxicity,and reasonable mechanical properties to mimic the extracellular matrix(ECM).Gelatin adhesives can be easily tuned to gain different viscoelastic and mechanical properties that facilitate its ocular *** herein grafted glycidyl methacrylate on the gelatin backbone with a simple chemical modification of the precursor,utilizing epoxide ring-opening reactions and visible *** chemical modification allows the obtaining of an elastic protein-based hydrogel(GELGYM)with excellent biomimetic properties,approaching those of the native *** can be modulated to be stretched up to 4 times its initial length and withstand high tensile stresses up to 1.95 MPa with compressive strains as high as 80%compared to Gelatin-methacryloyl(GeIMA),the most studied derivative of gelatin used as a *** is also highly biocompatible and supports cellular adhesion,proliferation,and migration in both 2 and 3-dimensional *** characteristics along with its super adhesion to biological tissues such as cornea,aorta,heart,muscle,kidney,liver,and spleen suggest widespread applications of this hydrogel in many biomedical areas such as transplantation,tissue adhesive,wound dressing,bioprinting,and drug and cell delivery.

Dear Editor,The Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats(CRISPR)and CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9)(CRISPR/Cas9)-mediated generation of somatically genetically engineered mouse models have emerged as a new approach for in vivo modeling of cancer[1].Here,we describe a novel DNA-free,easy,rapid,flexible,multiplexable,and robust method to model endometrial neoplasia by CRISPR/Cas9 ribonucleoprotein(RNP)electroporation into the uterus of mice.
