The importance of issues associated with urban/commensal rats and mice(property damage,management costs,and health risks)press upon research on these *** the demography of commensal rodents is mostly studied,the need for understanding factors influencing their natural morbidity/mortality is also *** this respect,more attention is expected to be paid to immunity,the physiological mechanism of defense against host survival threats(pathogens,parasites,diseases).Commensal rats and mice carry numerous pathogens that evoke diverse immune *** state of immunity in commensal house mice is studied in great detail,owing to the use of laboratory strains in biomedical *** commensal rats are,compared to mice,carriers of more zoonotic agents,rats’immunity is studied mainly in that *** of these zoonotic agents cause chronic,asymptomatic infections,which justified studies of immunological mechanisms of pathogen tolerance versus clearance regulation in *** of some infections in specific tissues/organs pressed upon analysis of local/regional immune responses and/or immunopathology.A survey of immunological activity/responses in commensal rats is given in this review,with mention of existing data in commensal *** should throw some light on the factors relevant to their morbidity and lifespan,supplementing the knowledge of commensal rodent ecology.

Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs), the remnants of ancient retrovirus infections, constitute approximately 8% of the human genome and play important roles in human evolution, development,and diseases. Multiple drugs, such as DNA methyltransferase inhibitors and lysine-specific histone demethylase 1inhibitors, reactivate ERVs, induce viral mimicry and trigger innate immune responses to enhance tumor immunogenicity.

Multiple sclerosis(MS)is a neuroinflammatory demyelinating disease,mediated by pathogenic T helper 17(Th17)***,the therapeutic effect is accompa-nied by the fluctuation of the proportion and function of Th17 cells,which prompted us to find the key regulator of Th17 differentiation in ***,we demonstrated that the triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2(TREM-2),a modulator of pattern recognition receptors on innate immune cells,was highly expressed on pathogenic CD4-positive T lymphocyte(CD4^(+)T)cells in both patients with MS and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE)mouse *** knockout of Trem-2 in CD4^(+)T cells significantly alleviated the disease activity and reduced Th17 cell infiltration,activation,differentiation,and inflammatory cytokine production and secretion in EAE ***,with Trem-2 knockout in vivo experiments and in vitro inhibitor assays,the TREM-2/zeta-chain associated protein kinase 70(ZAP70)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)signal axis was essential for Th17 activation and differentiation in EAE *** conclusion,TREM-2 is a key regulator of pathogenic Th17 in EAE mice,and this sheds new light on the potential of this therapeutic target for MS.

Varicella-zoster is a highly communicable virus that can be transmitted through the airborne *** one quarter of people are infected with this *** studies have described the structure of A-capsid and a blurred reconstruction of the C-capsid with icosahedral *** this study,we have determined the more precise detailed structures of the varicella-zoster virus(VZV)B-and C-capsid in icosahedral symmetry using a combination of block-based reconstruction and symmetry relaxation *** addition,we are reporting structural details of the portal vertex reconstructions in five-fold symmetry and portal reconstructions in twelve-fold *** structures unveil the basis for the high thermal stability of the VZV *** conformational flexibility of structural elements of the capsid plays a role in the assembly of the capsid and drives processes critical for the viral life *** results of the study open up new avenues for the development of drugs against a highly prevalent and contagious pathogen.

In a recent study published in Cell,Afkhami and colleagues systematically compared different routes of vaccine delivery,origin of the vaccine platform as well as valence of the vaccine and demonstrated that the respiratory mucosal delivery of a trivalent chimpanzee’s adenovirus(Ad)-vectored vaccine is superior to any other of the tested conditions in inducing broadlyacting immunity and protection against current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and possibly future variants of concern(VOC).1 The ongoing global coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has forced an uniquely fast development of novel mRNA-and vector-based vaccines.
