Trade-offs and Synergies of ecosystem Services in Karst Area of China Driven by Grain-for-Green Program

As an important means regulating the relationship between human and natural ecosystem,ecological restoration program plays a key role in restoring ecosystem *** Grain-for-Green Program(GFGP,One of the world’s most ambitious ecosystem conservation set-aside programs aims to transfer farmland on steep slopes to forestland or grassland to increase vegetation coverage)has been widely implemented from 1999 to 2015 and exerted significant influence on land use and ecosystem services(ESs).In this study,three ecological models(In VEST,RUSLE,and CASA)were used to accurately calculate the three key types of ESs,water yield(WY),soil conservation(SC),and net primary production(NPP)in Karst area of southwestern China from 1982 to *** impact of GFGP on ESs and trade-offs was *** provides practical guidance in carrying out ecological regulation in Karst area of China under global climate *** showed that ESs and trade-offs had changed dramatically driven by *** detail,temporally,SC and NPP exhibited an increasing trend,while WY exhibited a decreasing ***,SC basically decreased from west to east;NPP basically increased from north to south;WY basically increased from west to east;NPP and SC,SC and WY developed in the direction of trade-offs driven by the GFGP,while NPP and WY developed in the direction of ***,future ecosystem management and restoration policy-making should consider trade-offs of ESs so as to achieve sustainable provision of ESs.

草地植被结构对于其生产和生态功能至关重要,但大尺度信息严重匮乏.本研究结合多源遥感数据和深度学习,在区域尺度上厘清了青藏高原高寒草地基于群系的植物群落结构空间格局,并比较了其历史变化.过去40年,高寒草甸在高寒草地中的比例从50%上升到69%,反映了变暖变湿的环境变化.此外,高寒草甸和高寒草原中高山嵩草草甸和紫花针茅草原的优势度分别增强到76%和92%.其中,气候因子驱动了紫花针茅草原近些年的分布;高山嵩草草甸近些年的分布则并非完全由气候驱动,人类活动可能起重要作用.本研究首次探索了区域尺度植被结构特征与历史变化,为认识青藏高原草地变化的驱动力及其空间异质性提供了新视角.

Despite great progress in data sharing that has been made in China in recent decades,cultural,policy,and technological challenges have prevented Chinese researchers from maximizing the availability of their data to the global change science *** achieve full and open exchange and sharing of scientific data,Chinese research funding agencies need to recognize that preserva-tion of,and access to,digital data are central to their mission,and must support these tasks *** Chinese government also needs to develop better mechanisms,incentives,and rewards,while scientists need to change their behavior and culture to recognize the need to maximize the usefulness of their data to society as well as to other *** Chinese research communi-ty and individual researchers should think globally and act personally to promote a paradigm of open,free,and timely data sharing,and to increase the effectiveness of knowledge development.

Ginseng planting in Northeast China brings economic benefits but affects forest landscape integrity and native ecological *** order to quantify the impacts of ginseng planting on the forest landscape,Fusong County in Jilin province was selected as a study *** number and distribution of ginseng fields over different time was quantified based on remote sensing and ground *** analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to study the impacts of ginseng planting on the *** results showed that altitudes and slopes of ginseng fields increased and became increasingly scattered and smaller closer to the Changbai Mountain Nature *** fields and abandoned fields increased total patches and total area of the local forested landscape,and shared edge lengths between ginseng fields and forests,resulting in continuous fragmentation of the *** the total area of existing and abandoned ginseng fields accounts for a small fraction of the total landscape,their negative impacts on ecosystem conservation is *** local government needs to rationally plan ginseng planting,scientifically implement the restoration of abandoned ginseng lands,and enhance awareness of ginseng farmers to environmental *** study has important significance for maintaining the healthy and stable development of the local ginseng industry and for improving the quality of regional ecological environment.
